No, with an S/PDIF cd player and sound card it is possible to make a digitally identical 1:1 copy.
Not that it matters, as a previous poster pointed out, even a decent analog recording will introduce less artifacts than mp3.
I was always under the impression that patents cannot be inforced if the holder sits back and allows their technology to be used and adopted, only to decide that they want royalties years later, when people have come to rely on it.
This, I thought was illegal. Owners of patents have an obligation to tell people that they are using licensed technology, and that they have a right to charge a fee.
Presumable since you are aware that your child found porn that means you were responsible enough to monitor their internet access. Which is good.
The problems occur when the government makes filtering mandatory. At my university all internet access is filtered. And it renders the whole thing totally useless. For example, it utilizes a primitive algorithm that looks for black listed works in the URL. One of those words is 'CUM'.
Meaning I get a page with an Access Denied message when searching for innocent things like:
'CirCUMference of a cirlce' 'DoCUMent' 'CuCUMber'
etc etc etc..
The whole thing is very childish, treating responsible adults like children is not the answer.
Note: I'm not saying it's impossible to stumble and accidently find advertisments for porn, it's just not likely unless you go looking for it. Which is why I also said responsible parents should supervise their kids. There is simply no need for more legislation.
Children do not need 'protected' from pornography. Any twelve year old with a mind dirty enough to go searching for albino midget porn on google was already corrupt to begin with.
The simple fact is porn is only easy to come by when you look for it. Just like in the real world, any responsible parent/teacher should supervise their children regardless of whether they are watching TV, using the Internet or walking down the street.
It is common sense. We don't need new laws for the Internet, we need to educate judges on how to apply the old ones, because they work just fine.

Pigs are some of the most intelligent beings on our planet. Why do we kill them by the billions? Just to enjoy the transient pleasure of tasting their flesh?
GTA3 has an option to add motion blur. I don't like it though, things appear much sharper when it is off. But on a lower end card maybe I would see the benefit.
Exactly, and my point is this will simply not happen. They tried to pass similar laws years ago when VCRS became popular. And look - they learned to live with it. The same thing will happen now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: If I can watch it, I can capture it and digitize it. After that I can encode it any way I want.
They cannot escape from this undeniable truth. Real mass piracy will never go away for this reason. This DRM technology only serves to take away consumers fair use and increases corporations control.
Either way, this won't ever become mainstream. People will demand the rights to use their media any way they want to. That means being able to make and burn mp3s for portable players in their car etc. As soon as people figure this out the hardware simply won't sell.
Why else do you think macrovision disabled region free DVD players out sell normal players?
Nokia have been pushing mobile phones with changable covers for the last few years. Surely this is prior art.

Whether humans are truly omnivores is a matter up for debate. Sure, our ancestors ate some meat, when they could get it. There's not really any nutritional need for meat products, though - a well planned vegetarian diet can supply all of a person's needs.
Sure, it's enough to keep you alive. But that's not the same as healthy. I challenge you to name one successful athlete who is a vegetarian...
Anyways, meat tastes nicer than that vile substance called Soya!
I tend to think that porn is evil/wrong/harmful basically if looked at from the point of view of people who are forced (sometimes with brute physical force, but often with force and power of money) in "performing" it.
Right, but that is not the porn itself that is wrong, it is the act of physically and/or otherwise forcing someone to partake in an activity against their will. EG, it is immoral to violate somebody's rights in the way you describe. This is a crime, and the offender should be punished. Production of pornography does not automatically imply these things. Therefore porn in and of itself is not immoral. Because it does not cause harm. Supply and demand. It is basic economics.

I know you said IF these were the case. But even IF they were:
(a) kids who grow up watching porn becoming sexually disfunctional in some way
This is a moot point. Kids should not be watching porn at all. Kids can get fucked up watching violent movies, but nobodys talking about banning blood in the movies...
(b) workers in the porn industry (particularly the young) being abused and having their lives fucked up by doing it.
Again abuse in ANY industry is a crime and should be treated as such be it porn or otherwise. It is not a case for banning the production of porn.

I believe all morality comes from God, but I also believe that God's morality works
But does 'gods' morality work because
1 - God knows what it good.
2 - Whatever god says by definition is good.
If 1 is the case, then morality comes from a source independent of god.
If 2 is the case then your so called morality is no more than obedience. I.e. if god commanded you to kill rape torture and steal, as he did in the Old testament then that would be moral and good. I find this morally repugnant!
The Ten Commandments include things like do not steal, do not murder, do not lie, do not cheat on your wife/husband. Do you think these things have no basis in logic or reason?
No, societies figured out these rules were beneficial LONG before the Old Testament was written. Fact is these things are wrong not because some sky pixies says so, but because they cause harm. And society as a hole strives to avoid harm. Therefore we agree that such things are immoral.
Your 10 commandments also contains such silly rules as "Do not have other Gods before me". This violates freedom of religion. Something I for one think is a good thing.
IOW If you need superstition to stop you from killing and raping then you need help.
Actually, I got the amp for free, but that is beside the point.
You are talking nothing but a steaming pile of jizz. My point was that if you actually care about the fidelity of your music then low bitrate mp3 just does not cut it. If however you are deaf due to the fact your head is trapped in your own rectum then good for you. Download and burn your music and play them back through your tin can speakers. See if I care.
128k Sounds fine on headphones or cheap speakers. But play that back on a $3000 amp with big mother fucking speakers and subwoofer, and it will sound crap... Believe me:)
There does not seem to be News links in any non-English google mirrors...
And google are aware of this, why else would they create this Hacker Version?
Not necessarily, they could anonymously publish it anonymously on freenet.

You would not know Irony if it shat on your face. Moron
However I just don't want to government to censor ME because your kids might look at animal porn.
That is my point, parents should take the initiative, we simply don't need yet more dumb laws.
