It doesn't matter, the web is next: soon TimeWarner will instigate QOS, bandwidth caps, preferential routing to make sure you're only streaming the *right* content. It will be achieve via lobbying in Washington, the sheeple will be sold the same BS: "it's a good thing, you'll see".
Read Lawrence Lessig to know what I mean.
Besides, it's sad because one should not have to listen to foreign media to be informed in his own country.

I'm glad to see that the community is fighting back at M$. Now, I have 3 great browsers that I can use on Linux: Mozilla (my 'reference implementation' when testing web apps), Galeon & Firebird. I remember testing Phoenix 0.3 and it looked great then, then switching over to Galeon. I think I'm going to switch to Firebird now. The UI is so clean and fast. What a pleasure! Excellent work. Keep it up!

http://www.mamma.com/, Metacrawler & others have been doing this for years. Is this because their search is limited to a particular class of data? Then you can patent just about any fucking database app. USPTO, get a clue!
That link (& some other recent articles) shows that even the Bush administration is concerned about the problem. Some legislation (and some lawsuits) are brewing in Washington.
The fast food industry will be bankrupted the same way the tobacco industry is. It's coming, don't worry.
BACK ON TOPIC:since the new legislation will pass because the republicans control the WH, House & Senate, we'll see what happens in the next 5 years. My guess is: less quality than more. These companies will sure be lean to run and make a high profit. If that's what you want, then great.

I can't comment on BK, I don't know the details.
My point is that while the free markets do provide some efficiencies in some areas, efficiency & cost cutting is not necessarily desirable in all areas. TV & Radio can be used for educational purposes, for information and culture. Quality and diversity (of opinion, content, etc.) in all these 3 areas cost a lot of money, but sometimes it's a good thing.
Your take on the Apple user base is interesting. So far, I've heard nothing but raves from my Mac buddies. I can see how they don't want to spoil a Good Thing.
I think the unlimited number of personal burns people get with the service is right. Some tunes might leak on the occasional compilation everyone makes, but nothing worse than what people are already doing with their burners and CDs that they purchase.
Maybe we're starting to see what 'FAIR USE' really is.
Flamebait? How about Informative? I couldn't agree more.
There's lots of good media on the web that compete with NPR. This year I'm giving money to my local jazz radio station and the EFF. All my NPR dollars ever did was fund the megaphone for the Bush/Cheney gvt.
Great book. I have read several of the OReilly titles. They are great to understand how historically some features got into the language, etc. They also greatly contributed to the Python advocacy. But in a way, it's also their downfall: they tend to be dated. The only Python book I read now is the New Riders title. I can find just about anything in it as fast as I can search Google. OK, *almost* as fast.
Yeah. And pair that with: "piracy supports terrorism" and you get: let's go bomb all these 3rd world countries that just don't support our way of life.
Fuzzy logic Mr President? You don't say.
wish I had points to mod you up.

Following the same logic, we conclude that competition between McDonald's & Burger King improves culinary standards.
Couldn't agree more. The best cell phone to have is a quarter in your pocket.

Does the user ID of the person downloading the file get embedded in the AAC file in any way? Have AACs showed up on Kazaa yet?
Just curious, I don't own a Mac and I stopped using p2p nets.

I think you're right. Sadly.
Great analysis.

Coders should have their day interrupted by support tasks. Why shouldn't they? The users are constantly interrupted by broken software.
Next time you release something, test it first. You won't have to complain about being bothered by support calls later.
Eat you own dogfood. It's not a novel idea.
