  1. Graphic Pseudo Code on Dvorak on 'Rinky-Dink' Software Rant · · Score: 1

What this idiot is asking for, is the equivalent of a programmer asking why his compiler doesn't compile his pseudo-code.
The complexity in graphic manipulation is high and only because the red refelection from our eyes is consistent and bright, is red-eye removal apparently easy. Swapping people's heads is not, especially when the lighting does not match.

I have used this and it works. It also works for all those junk-mail flyers addressed to "Occupant" or previous tenants.
On a similar note, I received a telemarketing call from one of the Big Banks (tm), CIBC actually, and when I asked that I be put on their Do-Not-call list the saleswoman was very helpful and gave me instructions on how to be put on the CMA DNC list. Actually made me want to do business with them, except I won't respond through those channels.

  6. Filesystems are tools on The Linux Filesystem Challenge · · Score: 5, Insightful

Filesytems are tools that will suit different purposes. Some are good for databases, some for lots of small files, some for lots of reading, some for writing, some for networks, some for streaming.
So to develop a one handy "swiss army knife" of filesystems may not be the best route. For the most part one knows what a system will be doing and can build in the most appropriate filesystem for the job.

  9. Render managers on Renderfarm Setup Tips? · · Score: 3, Interesting

We have a 50 node dual 3Ghz render farm, 20 on w2k and 30 on linux 2.4.20 (ok Redhat9) We are currently using Muster www.vvertex.com, but are not that happy with it. It was reasonably priced, and the developers are very helpful, but its not quite there yet. I have been seriously considering building my own using a SQL database (currently Postgresql, but may swich to MySql) and perl. A render manager is really just a database with a bit of network sockets and scripts to run occasionally. A simple concept that is probably going to come back and bite me :)

I would have to disagree on your "nipple is intuitive" statement. Have you ever watched a baby learn to suckle? It may be intuitive in animals but human babies go through an enormous learning process. Some children have been known to suffer from malnutrition or even die, due to their inability to learn to suckle. They are required to form their mouths and tongues into a very specific way to get any kind of efficient suckling. On top of this it is also an extremely painful process to the mother. The only intuitive thing is their attraction to the nipple, and humans have a lot of intuitive attractions.
Hence, everything is learned, we just rely on what attracts us to guide us, initially anyway. We soon learn what attractions we can follow and those we must restrain ourselves from doing.
