I couldn't give a monkey's about the TV tuner crap, but ATi have consistently offered BY FAR the best DVD playing and RAMDAC performance (Matrox excepted on the RAMDAC) in their cards. For Mac users with BIG CRTs, ATi provides MUCH better image quality EVERY time. The MacOS nVidia drivers are buggy bastards, I'm afraid.

A guy I used to work with has nicked PLENTY of discs out of that bin...

you don't know much about cars, or Sting. The Jag in question (S-type) will probably do 25-35mpg without much trouble, the wood in question is almost certainly walnut, and Sting - of course - is the world's most pretentious twat, who sold out his musical gifts many years ago for a dumptruck full of cocaine and a rather nice Tuscan estate.

well, seeing as this IS the networked age (err... isn't it?) why not do it online with DRM - in the TV business we do this kind of thing ALL the time with work in progress and sensitive advertisements. Just send the person the appropriate download or access key, backed up by a cast iron NDA for them to sign and voila! Media security achieved!

since when is "x86" non-proprietary? I'll grant you Linux, but intense, margin slashing competition and economies of scale != freedom. If you take the positio that they DO, then the logical conclusion is that one design fits all, and that Linux developers would be better off working for Microsoft.

it's a real shame that you introduced the bogus notion of price intothis equation. Sure, Powermacs are RELATIVELY expensive, but not neccesarily ABSOLUTELY expensive. The dnetc results certainly indicate that the Motorola MPC 74xx is a competitiive product at least, with certain outstanding features. Vive la difference, I say, choice is a wonderful thing.

while I KNOW that the fastest x86 chips are currently ahead of the Moto G4, the G4 certainly can lay down the law when it's running the right kind of code. Look here:-
