Baird certainly DID come up with a mechanical scanning ssytem, but he stilltransmitted moving pictures electronically FIRST, in his studio in FRITH STREET, SOHO, LONDON. NOT an American, but a SCOT working in LONDON made television work FIRST.
no, I don't think the Mac enthusiast will necessarily disagree with him. I don't. unlike many 'linux users' John comes across as someone who appreciates just how advanced the MacOS was in certain ways, how those advances were picked up on and extended in Be, NewtonOS and NeXT, and how so many of them seem to have been squandered in X. That Apple CAN'T - realistically - implement the advanced features and structures in an OS and hope for it to succeed is a testament to the legacy thinking that's slowly choking the IT industry. Remember, Apple is trying to woo Win users, and that means - unfortunately in many cases - giving them what they know. The OSX Finder shows why this is such a bad idea, Apple's continued prosperity perhaps shows why it's a good one.
always worked for me, still streams WAY better than QT and WinMedia (although QT's MPEG4 streaming may have finally caught up in terms of robustness). Check out the kind of huge Real operation that the BBC has - and it just WORKS.
Real is the best video streaming solution available. Bar none. OK, the client software might be crap (although the latest iterations seem like a big improvement) but the technology is good.

the "newest QuickTime format" is QuickTime, and is certainly not an MPEG-4 derivative. Just because QT6 can export.mp4 files and read MPEG-4 properly doesn't mean QuickTime has changed. It's just been extended again. You don't seem to know what you're talking about, son.
And what the fuck is "wmf", genius? Stop talking out of your arse. The only postage stamp here is the one that you can fit all of you desktop video knowledge on.
When you are an inventor, community leader, philanthropist and entrepreneur, every minute of your day is valuable. Even with a magnificent home full of modern technology and a state-of-the-art corporate center, Mr. Jones still needs to be plugged in at all times, even during road trips.
and another thing - judging by the look of the "Jones Boys", he's got (or HAD, didn't see her in any of the pics...) himself a mail-order bride. Nice one, Scott. His portraits would seem to indicate he's one of the world's smugest twats. Dear oh dear. Remind me to never personally enrich this fucker.
what a fucking atrocity - all gadgets and no performance judging by his use of plasma screens and in-ceiling speakers. such a shame. And Win NT on his webserver too!
too true. Not that it's ever stopped these ludicrous stories before. We have IP webcams at work too, big fucking deal - Axis webcams only cost about $300 and they have a built-in webserver running Linux!
I'm sorry, but Intel does NOT use a 533Mhz FSB speed any more than AMD use a 333Mhz one. The "533" refers to 4x133Mhz (it's a 133Mhz bus with QDR tech) whereas the "333" refers to 2x167Mhz (it's a 167Mhz bus with DDR tech). Incidentally, I think that Apple is the first company (unbelieveably) to have implememted a 167Mhz FSB in their new "DDR" G4 designs. Shame the G4 chip isn't up to using the (otherwise fast) bus in DDR mode. Oh well, roll on the fabled MPC 7470!
if you can make and sell one cheaper and within the law, why don't you? If you don't like Apple's hardware then either buy another manufacturers' or build a computer yourself. But, most of all, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

why, what's so precious about your account?

Zero bugs that I noticed.
Zero issues that impacted productivity.
Zero problems running my old apps under classic
and Zero things to get done?
Unix + x86 + clustering = 40 times the admin/headaches of Apple.

LD forever indeed, just don't expect the players to last forever...
anyway, no matter how wonderful it WAS, it's still composite video (the horror!). MPEG2 may be compressed, but at least it's component.
and ANOTHER thing:-

could just be that neither the books or the films are any good.
