right on - I'll only support Apple over M$ until the day that they are equal, and then they can fuck off and look after themselves. I think if Apple ever get back more than 20% of the market they'll turn back into the uncompetitive, unresponsive, idle, arrogant fuckers that REALLY want to be. It's only the evil empire that keeps the bastards honest. Like a lot of highly talented people, Apple is FUCKING lazy, they only show their best with a gun at their balls.
I'll never understand this idea of promoting the Mac as a games machine. It isn't, and never was. If you want to replace your Pc with another games machine, you have PS2, GBA, NGC and X-Box to choose from - all of which are FAR better than the PC and FAR, FAR better than any Mac for games. If you don't dig Windows, get a PowerMac and a PS2 and you need never worry about missing out on games again. That's what I did.
I'd love you to justify that claptrap. I WORK in "broadcast video" (we call it T E L E V I S I O N, by the way) and the Amiga - limited use that it had - has been long gone since at least 1995. I haven't seen one in a TV company since 1997 - and that one was sitting in a store cupboard full of defunct equipment. Avid made the Mac the dominant desktop computer in video post, SGi STILL rules the high end, and there are HUNDREDS of NT/2000 based systems covering every conceivable TV application as well. But no Amigas. Not anywhere.
until AGP?? IIRC, AGP landed in '96 - SIX FUCKING YEARS AGO. Do Amigans just studiously ignore the real world or is there some kind of method to their madness? Face it, Commodore has GONE and they took the Amiga with them. The Amiga brand can be re-sold and re-sold until the end of time but it's NEVER coming back. It was developed by a (then) solid computer manufacturer, and it can't ever live again ourside that environment. Move on, please. This is just nostalgia.
no, no you seem to be mistaken. The British DO drive on the right side of the road, as do the Japanese and various other fabulously rich cultures. It's the French, Americans and other cheekily anti-British cultures that are doing it wrong. Oh well, probably explain why Americans are such crappy drivers, they're steering with their left hands while forcing cheeseburgers into their faces with their right. Tence the propensity for Drive-Thrus in the USA.
doesn't work like that. In the UK, we have MOSTLY switched to Metric, but we retain some Imperial units because of their convenience - so we lose pounds, ounces, feet, inches and all that rubbish, but we keep the Mile and the Pint. It actually works pretty well. Eventually people will get fed up of the Mile, as it doesn't fit in with anything else and we'll abandon it. The PINT, on the other hand...
the ploystation 2 is better than the Hex Box in one way - It's NOT made by Microsoft. Sony are no angels - they've been proven to litigate at te drop of the hat in the past, the pour VAST sums of money into hopeless products like MiniDisc, they have achieved a frightening level of vertical integration, and there's a worrying possibiltiy that their creativity will die with Morita. But, despite all this, they're hardly a patch on Microsoft which seems to operate more like the Mafia than a publicly traded corporation (embrace and extend and cutting off the air supply sound like mob tactics to me), and what do they do with all their profits? pile 'em up in the bank by the looks of things, as they don't seem to pay divvies. Extraordinary. Anyway, I'll support Sony and Apple and Sun and whoever else I can until this fucking monopoly is BROKEN, and the tech industry is free again.
actually, they have another redeeming feature (I'm actually using one now) the page down key is the top-right most key on the board, which makes it rather nice to use when reading long pages on the www. Like Slashdot pages for instance. Like a lot of the compact designs that Apple have done (eg hockey puck) women seem to like they as well - my girlfriend loves her compact kb and hockey puck mouse, they just fit her hands better.
they do have ONE redeeming feature - they're small. If you use a large graphics tablet they make an ideal companion - I've got one of the graphite coloured ones thusly set up on my gfx machine with a n A3 Wacom - works out nicely.
did you ever notice that there were TWO different versions of said keyboard? the only OBVIOUS difference is that the Aple logo moved, but the older "type" is the best KB I've ever used. I've still got one, but I can't plug it into my PowerMac G4:-[. And, yes, both the C64 and Amiga A500 keyboards were a cut above the shit you get with PCs today. My Apple Pro KB is pretty good, but still gives a lot away to the old Extended!
The shitty KB you got with your 7100 was called the Apple "Design" KB and was - as you rightly point out - bloody awful. Didi you ever try the original Mac 128K KB? Nice action there...
only in the USA is the cellphone system so fucked up that you get charged for incoming calls. it's hardly the telemarketeers fault if they decide to exploit this ludicrous situation and annoy you for FREE. you fucking idiots DESERVE it. sort out your cellphone networks!
get a grip. Can you REALLY imagine a govt. dept. buying YOU a PC with a transparent keyboard? irrespective of how good it is, people ALWAYS see good design as frivolous. My IT mangler always goes for coal-black IBM shitstations whether they're appropriate or not. Ooh! a million quid for a rackmount case? certainly sir!
OSX is only pronounced "Oh Ess Ten" if you do what Steve tells you to do. If you want to do that, you could also just call it "Jagwyre" the way Steve does. Apparently, Steve also pronounced SCSI "sexy", so the guy's obviously got issues.
yeah those Scientologists and Falun Gongers are insane! Why can't they have reasonable beliefs like the idea of cheap wine turning into 2000 year old blood when you drink it, dead people coming back to life and pregnancy without insemination. Weirdos!
DIVX is NOT MPEG4. All DIVX codecs are AWFUL, do NOT support these pirate pricks by using their shitware. If you want a top quality, low band codec for QT, use Sorenson Video 3.1 or one of Apple's excellent MJPEG options. DIVX SUCKS.
Steve would be far too busy snorting coke off a hookers' tits while eating a cheeseburger to come and help Bill with his moral dilemma. I think Bill normally consults the magic 8 ball in situations like this. Does anyone else iagine Redmond to resemble nothing so mjuch as OCP's headquarters?
why not Linux on the Gamecube, then? PowerPC ISA should make it a doddle, and it's obviously possible to modify the machine somewhat a la Panasonic. I thought ARM chips were usually FPU-less?

What difference does one step make when it's a million miles away?
Al Pacino isn't the devil, Ned Flanders is. Al Pacino is just a terrible actor who most people apparently thinks is great, star as he is of apallingly bad films like Scarface (nothing so much as a bad episode of Miami Vice). The sooner the Pacino myth is shattered, the safer we'll all be from abominations like "Scent of a Woman" SHUDDER

how can this be insightful when it's completely WRONG? AFAIK, Macs have not needed hardware ROMs since at least OS8.5 - about 5 years ago. At least.

but the Xbox DOES suck - so that's a valid insult. Calling the PS2 "PS/2" is neither insulting, witty or meaningful. It's just a misnomer.
you freaking morons!
you stated that there are no moving parts in todays keybeards. 1. Yes there are. 2. What's a keybeard?
had a lovely keyboard.

that 76% approval rating just means that 76% of those asked areblindly patriotic. Sounds about right - LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT, eh?
