The biggest thing I noticed was the utter lack of focus on the PC Games. The only mention of them after the development of the consoles was a snippet about Half Life. For quite a while PC games have led the way in many parts of the market. How about some info on Castle Wolfenstein, Doom, and other famous titles? How about the best selling Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diable games that I have spent so mny countless hours on?
Oh, and the Turbo Graphix 16 was the shitnitz in its day if you could manage to get anything other than that damn Keith Courage game.
"This is a pornographic cartoon utilizing Star Wars intellectual property. We feel strongly that the law does not allow for parody to be a defense to a pornographic use of someone else's intellectual property, especially when that use is directed to children."
What I don't understand is how it is 'directed to children'. Starwars itself isn't directed specifically to children, pornography (usually) isn't. Is it LucasFilms contention then that all cartoons are directed to children? If that is the case then he needs to take a trip to Japan. I just can not see how this is directed to children and that seems a very unfair statement to make, probably done more for shock factor (porn directed at children! oh, no!) then because it holds any truth to it.
Well, Spider Silk may be 5 times stronger than steel by weight, but how much volume would it take up? It seems to me that one steel beam's weight of spider silk would be very large. And wouldn't the strength be distributed over that volume? So, I would think a projectile would have an easier time penetrating a few feet of spider silk than a few inches of steel. Thus, the pure bulk of this stuff becomes impractical for an kind of armory (which is why they most likely compared it to steal). It may, however, still make make a durable fabric.
And they pass the losings on to you!
Thats right, now you have to pay higher prices for the same software, whether or not the software itself has flaws, but if the company is losing money of other software, they have to make it up don't they?
So what does this wind up as? Taxes. The people pay higher prices and the fines go to the government. Though, presonnally I like higher taxes (I think it benefits everyone) I don't want to see it having a large impacton one segment of the market.
How about accusing your competitor(s) of using windows(gasp!), thus costing the taxpayers more (that money could be going to the schools!) for inferior software(hears where you insert the advantages of linux) from a company that is in the throws of lawsuits and may break them up(I can wish can't I?). Argue the dissadvantages of windows to make linux shine through. Its like poking holes in paper with a light behind it(oh, I do like that clever one, I think I'll write it down).
Oh, and from a fellow Virginian, good luck (maybe you should run for Congress:)
If we won't the telephone companies get into cable because its monopolizing, then why would we let aol go into both? This is very obviously the same monopolizing that we've been trying to prevent, and I hope its done again.
Oh, and $230? That seems a little steep. Let's say 80 for internet access, 80 for cable, and 70 for the phone? I wouldn't pay that much for any of them.
I remember hearing a story about a switch. It seemed you turn this switch to either magic or more magic. This odd little switch had only one wire so it seemed odd that it could do anything. Yet, when it was switched down to magic the computer ran into some odd little problems. It never was explained (though a possible solution came out later) why this switch could work on only one wire. It was however, left in the more magic position.
Is there much interest in this subject around here, or in the environment in general? I would say no judging by the low response, there doesn't seem to be much. Well, at least they're doing it in the very unpopulous Nevada, though I honestly have not idea where the Yucca mountains are.
Mr Atlas says that the yucca flats are a little North East of Vegas in the Nuclear Testing area, so I guess that makes sense.
This one seems so simple to me.
This venture will costs lots of money.
By using linux much of it can be saved.
And it is a superior OS.
If you do not agree witht the last,
At least agree that at its current rate it will be.
I keep getting taken to 'The Universe is turquoise, say astronomers' when I click on the compression link. The same thing when I do it from within their site on their own link.
If only public opinion worked so well all the time! You know there were thousands of god damn screaming girls making annoyances out of themselves trying to get n'sync in that movie. They probably wrote 30 letters a piece approving it (while the backstreet lovers only wrote 5 negative ones). I don't especially like star wars (not that it isn't good) but i'm sitting here smiling to myself for the first time in a couple weeks over this. Maybe democracy will prevail.
It seems like the ads you're referring to are appearing all over yahoo, not just in the news section. I noticed them this morning (annoying the hell out of me) while I was playing chess to pass class time. Just because they are ALSO in news does not mean they are meant to be news specifically. They are basically the same old LOSE 20 POUNDS IN 4 DAYS crap, but, since they are in the news section, people are looking at them as news?
Oh, and hasn't anyone ever noticed the EXACT same thing on tv? News segments about the telezapper, aerobic machines, and everything else. These are nothing but infomercials. Since they deal in 'factual' information (or so they claimed) they can still be looked at as news, no matter how much they're paying the tv folks to deceive you. It may have once been contested, but it was ingrained into the news for longer than I've been around. It is common practice, and they aren't going to have a segment on tv about how they're screwing you over and I wouldn't be the newspaper guy to piss them off. Not that they're any less guilty, are they?
Exactly how free should software be?
Free as in available to everyone?
Free as in not having to pay?
Free to non-commercial users?
Free as in available for all to study, whether or not they must pay for use?
Free to use as examples for (competing?) software?
Or free as their designers should allow?
What I mean is, do you beleive that software should be open source so that everyone can benefit from it, so that you can let others help fix your code for you, so that everyone can benefit from your work without paying (i'd guess not), or is it some odd combination of these. What do you feel, personally, feel is the point/advantage of open source, and what, in turn, does sun fell is the point/advantage?
Well, I'm 17 now and won't have my license until after I'm 18. So until then what?
Its a good thing I know how to fly a plane from military school. I'll just get my pilot's license and... wait, wasn't that what started this all?
I put up some controversial material and I soon got a message stating that my website was a little to similar to another (that I had never been to). Someone threatened to file suit and such, but I am fairly sure (almost positive) it was because they disapproved of the content (as I would if I saw it now) rather than because of any website similarities. I wouldn't be surprised if their website was not made to look like mine (they were just a little too similar).
I guess what you'd be going for here is some kind of reversible hash function. Remember that the goal of a hash function is to make it so that no 2 messages (or groups of data) hash to the same value. I am under the impression that this has never been done, but ti has been done to the point where trying to genereate your own message to match a hash message is near impossible, especially if you're aiming to get a point across. If, however, each 'message' hashed to a different value, and this was reversible, I could see doing this. I just don't see how you can make every message have a complete unique value. It seems that if you have an infinate number of 500 bit messages all to be reduced to 5 bits it would take all 32 messages before you were completely out of options. They're talking larger numbers, but there are only so many combinations to hash to and they're always less than the combinations you're hasing from. If anyone would like more information about hashes and hashing equations try http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/faq/ and more specifially http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/faq/2-1-6.html . Then again, this is how I would try to compress things, I do not know what method they are using or others typically use. I just hope its true.
"Due to licensing restrictions, remote DVD playback is not available in homes using wireless networking."
I think two areas cover this. First the VCR type lawsuits and secondly the tape and later digital muxic lawsuits. Why can't I make my own personnal copy? Why can't I watch it from any device I so wish? They're basically saying you use their device or no device on this one, and who are they to say that you can't use one tv over another, or watch on you laptop?
I think more than anything they're saying that you cannot use anything EXCEPT this device. They don't have to support it, but let's see if I can't grab a screwdriver and put it in.
This seems to be another step into an inherently bad direction. Are we ready for computers that grow and think on their own. We're playing god to atheist beings.
Recent threats such as the code Red and Leave worms are proof that virus writers and hackers are pooling resources to produce hybrid weapons that can cause tremendous damage.
Yes, more anti-hacker media hype caused by a couple of retards who just fucked up everyone's day.
The article says the resolution is 800x600 and not, as the snippet on slashdot says, 640x480.

if you got some creative electrical engineers together and explained what you needed they could do it for under 10000 easy
give this job to caltech and see what they can do

how long til it figures out that the best way to get rewards is to kill off the humans and reward itself
how long until it realizes that the smarter it gets the harder the rewards are and starts playing dumb
how long before it figures out how to get on the internet and finds unlimited information and quickly becomes the ultimate hacker to get more
