  1. Re:multitasking with tabs on KDE 3.1 Beta Released · · Score: 1

I do pretty much the same thing and tabs help because my "daily reading list" (http://fiftyfly.mine.nu/kb/links.php) is pretty extensive. Sometimes, if you've gone and opened 30-40 windows, it's easy to forget why that link looked interesting - 45 minutes ago. So I like to open many windows, and keep related links in one mozilla instance via tabs. All the fark links in one window, the /. in another, the various misc bits (like jerry pournelle & today's weather) in another window. That sort of thing.

Unfortunately, it wasn't smart enough to realize that I just wanted the plain-text translation of it, so it pasted the HTML that made the code look all pretty in the page, not the HTML itself I wanted to bring over. I had to paste it into Notepad, then re-copy it.

Haven't looked in a while, but I'm pretty sure that "paste special -> plain text" does the same thing.

I guess the one "usability" thing I'd like out of the whole kde/gnome/X/mozilla/etc mess is _one_ global, consistant, working clip board.

When you're not supposed to do much of anything you end up playing a lot of cards, reading novels doing homework & such, but there can be sooo much time to fill. Think of a 4 day weekend, minus sleep (40 hours) eating (10 hours) warmups/stretching (10 hours) and racing (5 minutes. hey, I'm a sprinter ;p ) that leaves 35:55 to fill while sitting in a hotel room with nothing but springer on the tv.

I'm in rather a different position. I've had edey@hotmail.com since, well let's just say the front page proudly annouced they'd hit 10,000 users. It's the only email account I've had through a big chunk of highschool, university & a couple years there after. In short I've had this spam trap for a loooong time, and most of the people I converse with no it. It's easy to remember, it doesn't have any stupid numbers in it, it's known - but it get's about 150 spams a day. Maintenance is a giant pain because if I leave it for more then about 36 hours it fills up. I do, now, run an imap server on one of my boxes here, but I hate to rely on it completely incase my ISP decides to enforce their TOS. So I keep the hotmail account and daydream about dumping it for good.

perhaps not, but you'd think of another /. headline today about lawyers prepping to sue for damages against future ginger related injuries. While i don't particularily like the idea of proprietary software vendors trying to trick me into thinking that any license I've "accepted" is legal, I'm not shure that click-wrap is a bad thing for a truly legal license. In other words, I really don't think that this is the reall problem. The battle we need to face is against those who try (fraudently I would say) to pass off license that should never see the light of day. To put it another way, whether or not my provider likes it they sold me a connection rated at such and such "24/7". If I share that connection & my bandwidth goes up I still can't generated any more traffic then I could on my own. If my provider over sold their serveice based on the idea that I (and everybody else) would use some fraction less then 1 of the bandwidth we were sold, well who's problem is that? So yeah, a buffet might work as an analogy, but whatchya gonna do when your budget is based on 2 plates per person and myself & the rest of the swim team walk in after workout? A couple (big) reasons for that: 1) Unlike (another fav band of mine) AC/DC, Zep did not make a doz albulms that all sound the same, each was differnt, unique & stood on it's own. So they had many different sounds 2) Many, _many_ bands show a strong Zep influence. Much of what they did that was so unique is much more common place today. It's actually a testament to how different, yet "right", their stuff was that it now sounds not "particularily original"
