Why do that when they can just rent out space in one of their super massive server farms. Think about it... you get some good bandwidth, your data will be mirrored on geographically and topographically separate systems. You don't have to worry about hardware failure or anything like that and you'll be able to get all the bandwidth you could ever want. You don't have to worry about database replication or syncing up data or anything like that, its all taken care of for you. Depending on your needs, you can have gmail, google maps, google office, adsense all integrated with whatever it is you're setting up... web app, file server, database system, whatever it is you're setting up you'll be able to get it from Google along with some nice cross platform tools to make it as easy as possible.
And because of economies of scale the price will be very reasonable, ie. cheaper than rolling your own solution. Hell, I'd consider it, wouldn't you?
I'm surprised no one caught it. I'm not a big fan and have only watched the series once, but I do remember a scene where the captain uses the toilet and there's a sink that flips down or something like that. But maybe that's because my dad is a plumber and I can appreciate the innovative design of the bathroom to save space.
You aren't going to get all that much work until the slave is around 10 years old. But you still have to feed, clothe and shelter him and his mother for that time. And you may do all that and they might end up dying from disease or escaping.
Slavery isn't economically feasible in the long term.
Here's a question for you: Why does everyone assume that evolution is a good thing? Yes, species going extinct is just a part of evolution, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't care about it. Some of use would rather not have to wait ten million years before we can have fish for dinner again.
The quebec referendum was pretty close. There was a lot of vote fraud going on there too. But it was the losers that were the ones stealing the votes, so the investigation into it wouldn't change the result, so it wasn't really wasn't a big story.
OK so how do you explain the bombing of Canadian soldiers in a clearly defined training area? The training was scheduled well in advance, all forces were informed, yet some American asshole dropped bombs on them. How do you reconcile that with your ROE?
Sure maybe you were one of the good guys and follow the ROE. Maybe you're well trained and know to be patient. Maybe you just aren't that trigger happy. But some of the guys up there are poorly trained (not reg forces), and want to bomb the hell out of something so they can brag to all their friends.
We heard about the incident fo the bombing of our soldiers. But that was because it was Canadian soldiers. If it was Afghani civilians do you think we'd ever hear about it? Hell no. I doubt we would have heard about it if it American planes bombed American soldiers. They'd just say they were hit by an IED or something and cover it up.
The ROE are bullshit. You might have followed them, but a lot of people don't. In the unlikely event they get caught breaking them, they get a slap on the wrist.
Yeah it was pretty obvious Ratner didn't give a shit about the X-men. Singer, for all his faults, at least treated the characters with reverance and it showed. In the climax a lot of characters were killed of that were minor characters in the movie but major characters from the comic book. Magneto was for the most part just a one dimensional evil villain, with none of the conflict in him that you see in the comics or the previous movies.
And the movie wasn't that long. Why wasn't their a little more character development? The pacing was pretty shitty anyway, so there's no reason they couldn't have had a more few scenes with that. But maybe I chouldn't complain, some of the character development scenes were extremely painful.
He has a point. I see a huge amount of posts on here that get modded +5 Insightful that are about as stupid with respect to real life as some of these people are with technology. Take even an intro course in economics and then read slashdot (at +5 even) and you'll have a good laugh about how stupid some people here are. Anyone with any experience in debating will be amused by how poor the discourse it here. And let's not even mention political discussion here.
Hell, even in the technology field, many posts here are pretty silly, with fanboys on all sides completely unwilling to admit their favourite technology's weaknesses.
pretty scary that they're sending that stuff in plaintext. Shouldn't some training in encrypting email be required before you can get any secuarity clearance?
dude they have access to the source anyway... its open source. You don't have to be google to steal people's open source projects. In fact google has a lot more to lose than the average company.
Also there's a handy utility called mimms that works well for this. You do have to download the.asx file and open it with a text editor to get the mms:// address.
It's pretty annoying that oyu have ot jump through hoops just so you can watch a movie whenever you want. especially since if you download it you're going to save them badwidth in the long run.
Anyways I'm doing this right now (remove spaces in the URL):

Solving political problems or preventing genocide doesn't seem to be anyone's forte. The UN attempts to do these things anyway with varying degrees of success. You don't hear about the times they succeed because negotiating treaties and keeping things peaceful don't get as much attention as several million people being massacred (and even that doesn't get much attention anymore). Are you saying they shouldn't attempt anything that has a significant chance of failure?
I think you're onto something there. Google is all about search. They're probably going to make a search chip that puts various search algorithms on a chip so that their search appliances find stuff faster.
Of course there will be a lot of speculation about them making CPU's and are going to take on AMD and Intel. But the simplest explanation is that they are making hardware to improve their search performance.
Yeah or you could set the gravity extremely low so that everyone's stuck on the ceiling, then put it up to the max and crush them to death.
My favourite was the map where there was a button you could push to fill a room with lava. I'd just automatically push it on my way by, half of the time you'd hear someone else on the LAN yell out. Good times, good times.
It all depends on how you frame it. I have the Hi-speed lite(tm) package which means I get 2 Mbit/s. Its fine for my needs and I don't see any reason to upgrade. Then The cable company informs me that SuperCorp has paid to allow me to download stuff from them at 20 Mbit/s. Now SuperCorp has paid the fees for me so I'm getting extra bandwidth for free. Hey that's great. I may not even care about SuperCorps webpage but its nice to know they are paying for me to have speedy access to their site if I do choose to go there.
Hey what's this? Google's refusing to let me use their search engine? what's their problem anyway? I'm happy using Google's stuff at 2 Mbit/s, since I've always used it at that speed before and it always worked fine.
Well maybe I should use SuperCorp's new search engine since they never deny me access to their site, hell they're even willing to buy me bandwidth. Much nicer people than that evil google.
Yeah but he fights four replicants in the span of a couple of days and survives. They probably wouldn't make him too strong or people (and Deckard himself) will realise he's a replicant. Also if he goes rogue, you would have a major problem if he's super strong.
If you think about it, if you were building a blade runner replicant you'd probably make him really smart and really tough. He doesn't have to throw a strong punch, he just has to be able to take one. As long as he can stay in the fight long enough, he will likely figure out a way to win.
Yeah, that's how I see it too. Gaff knows what Deckard is thinking because Deckard has Gaff's old memories. Deckard wanted to quit, so they brought Gaff in to make sure he did his job. If Deckard quit as a bladerunner, they'd have to retire him, and all the time and money they invested in the Deckard project would be lost.
Maybe Gaff went through a similar experience to Deckard's, and realised killing replicants was wrong. Also, killing Deckard would be like killing himself, right?

Well they are Americans... they aren't exactly known for long term planning.

I think people want their military to be professional. They should understand the weight of what they do.
These kids are going to come home eventually. Do you want to live next door to someone who find killing people to be fun?

you know you could've paused it and went to see what was up with the tv.
It became necessary to destroy the router in order to save it.

Agreed about their being smart people at MS. But it seems Google is hiring executives, and it seems like the execs at MS are screwing everything up.
My favourite was the map where there was a button you could push to fill a room with lava. I'd just automatically push it on my way by, half of the time you'd hear someone else on the LAN yell out. Good times, good times.

And the animal that laid the egg must have been a chicken, since only chickens can lay chicken eggs.
