Yes, but what did that "first chicken" breed with? If it was with with proto-chickens then the "first chicken" and the proto-chickens are not different species.

Or do you beleive that the proto-chickens laid several chicken eggs within the lifetime of the chicken, all of which were genetically incompatible with the proto-chicken, but compatible with each other? The odds of that aren't likely.

So the proto-chicken and the chicken are likely genetically compatible. That means that the proto-chickens and the chickens are actually the same species. The animal that laid the egg is as much a member of the chicken species as the egg is.

First of all, I think xmlhttprequest can only access stuff on the same server too, it would be a major security hole if it didn't.

You're not thinking like a malicious hacker. Let's say I want to DDOS example.com. I find some popular webserver that's not exactly secure, lets say newestfad.com. Then I make a comment has a little javascript that requests a large file (or does a database intensive search) from example.com. Now everyone that loads up newestfad.com with my attached comment also loads that file from example.com. I could take it a step further and add that comment to every page on newestfad.com. Since newestfad.com doesn't have the sharpest admins, it might be a while before they fix it so that you can't insert javascript into comments. Meanwhile, example.com is being killed just because the developers at newestfad.com don't know what they're doing.

The same could be done with flash, though you'd probably have to make a trendy game that included the DOS code.

You don't think these things happen? Why do you think slashdot's search sometimes uses google, instead of their own native algorithm? It's because someone has jammed some iframes in some comments on a poorly done website that requests slashdot search through its comments. this hammers the database and kills slashdot. So they have to disable searching and use google for searching until the site that's causing the requests gets their act together.

Macromedia is doing the right thing here. And you can easily have your own server just pass along the request to another server. prevents DDOS attacks.

Yeah they probably should have all linked to the yahoo article, but that wouldn't change the fact that yahoo took down the page.

You should be saying damn you for not plagiarising, or even better, damn you yahoo for removing the page.

The "chosen one of prophecy" has a vision that the love of his life will die giving birth to his children. He does what he can to prevent it. At some point, some evil dude offers to bring her back to life. He has a twin son and daughter, both of whom inherit his special abilities. But unfortunately the woman dies.

That describes both Episode III and Dune Messiah.

How about this... The son of the "chosen one" searches out his father. He manages to get his father to understand a better way. His father sacrifices himself helping his son. In the end a tyrant is killed.

That's Return of the Jedi or Children of Dune.

Now lets run down the list:
    Dune ~ Tattooine
    Lasguns ~ Blasters
    Gurney Halek ~ Han Solo
    Voice ~ Jedi mind trick
    Sardaukar ~ Storm Troopers
    Fremen ~ Sand People
    Leto II ~ Jabba
    Harvester ~ Sand Crawler
    Tleilaxu ~ Cloners
    Chrysknife ~ Light Saber
    Sarlac Pit ~ Sand Worm

Pretty much everything from the Star Wars movies have an equivalent in the Dune books (except for robots, of course). Some things Lucas did make a lot cooler, ie. light sabers are cooler than chrysknives (although a knife made from the tooth of a sandworm is pretty cool too), the Jedi mind trick is cooler than the voice (although that may be because Alec Guiness delivered it so well), and Han Solo is cooler than Gurney Halek (but that may be because Harrison Ford is cooler than Patrick Stewart). But in all the other comparisons Dune wins.

Also note that when they made the original Star Wars, Jabba was supposed to be a human, but was changed to his worm like appearance for RotJ. God Emperor of Dune was published in 1981. Maybe that was a coincidence.

I can browse through 50 messages at a time (which is arbitrary, it could be many more) and I can navigate through various converstations with people.

Gmail has many more features than what you're describing. They utilise vertical space and divide things up among multiple pages where it makes sense. Thats just good UI design.

And yes, I have designed interfaces myself too. I don't use 'px' unless I have a damned good reason to. IF someone is on a 640x480, they are likely using a smaller fonts sizer than someone on 1024x768 or higher. Use floating elements so that if there's not enough horizontal room for something, it just goes to the next line instead of making the dreaded horizontal scrollbar. And only show fields if they're needed, ie. if cell phone model is only required if someone is ordering a cell phone then don't display that field if they're ordering a land line installation.

Yeah, it takes a little more work, but you do things right, you won't have to redo everything when 1024x768 is the new standard.

Why can't windows update take a look at your drivers, and if its buggy, recommend one that isn't buggy?

Why is it too much to ask that MS make things secure by default, fix security holes and write drivers theirselves? You can get extra RAM. You can get your system with or without MS office. So why can't they offer it without windows? And you think dell forces corporations that already have a volume licensing deal with MS to buy a new windows license every time they sell them a PC.

Facts are both car companies and Dell allows people to customise their product. Dell sells PCs without OS's to corporate customers. There is not reason (other than a deal with MS) to force people to have an OS preinstalled.
