  1. Re:Sie of FLAC files? on FLAC Joins The Xiph Family · · Score: 1

Cool thought, but your Algothrithm needs a little work. First, most audio cds contain less than 74 minutes of audio. I'll come up with a random number here to take a guess... 50 minutes. Given that 50 is 6756768E-6 of 74, we find that 43918919E-5 is the raw size of these cd images on random average, and the Flac compression rate: 5E-1 of that would be: 21959459E-5 MB. That puts the total size at 71368243E-3 MB or 71368.243E-4 GB

As you can clearly see, it's much simpler to do this whole documentation using scientific notation, and it's gotta be with the capital E.

Perhaps if your post was more specific I could relate to it better. For example, when using Xfree86, I've noticed a very large difference in speed between the Rage Pro, and Radeon. The Rage Pro was good, as I said, but a radeon system doesn't flood the CPU even when moving huge windows (opaque), and it's very fast. Of course, this is on Linux. Windows doesn't use a lot of 2d accelleration, at least when compared to xfree86. moving windows is all edges only by default, and there's minimal drawing. OS X does a lot of neat blends and this brings in a lot of 2d accelleration, but when you start up windows with a mach64, or a radeon, you wont notice any difference until you try to run UT.

PC-to-Phone calls are still not ready on Linux, and they cost money to do. According to the GnomeMeeting FAQ: Step 3: Register a MicroTelco account on http://www.linuxjack.com.

However, when you go to linuxjack.com, it says that they will be adding accounts for MicroTelco on their site SOON (marketing word for "whenever"), and you can't just use a regular MicroTelco account like you would on Windows.

This is only really good news if you'd use voip-voip, or if all this proprietary technology actually works.

It does seem like a really cool idea though. Enough ranting.

What to do about it? Dont buy ram in small quantities. Buy the biggest chip on the market (currently 1gb for most modern platforms). This will also help costs for these new chips

That said, I wouldn't think about going that extreme, (you can buy 3-4 512mb chips for the price of 1 1gb chip) but I wouldn't buy 64mb either.
