We all already know that Slashdot will be switching to FreeBSD 5.0 as soon as it comes out, which was stated quite a while ago. I will definatly give it a shot, I dont like the way big linux distributions work, and Slackware isn't supported any more. Plus FreeBSD just has a awesome kernel, and the base system is BAD. Put that together with improved drivers, a great tcp/ip stack (hey they invented tcp/ip), and you've got a awesome OS.
You can call me partial, yeah, I have friends that use FreeBSD, but I really think this will be a big release for FreeBSD, and probably separate it from the whole "dead" BSD group.
Er, you mean INSECURE server of their own right? We've heard of people getting stolen from paypal accounts, and paypal didn't do anything about it. They say it's secure, but don't back it up at all legally, so you might as well just send cash in the mail. I'm not trying to say they should keep sending info unencrypted, that's just stupid, but it's a lot cheaper/easier/safer to setup apache for SSL, and get a cheap php shopping cart script.
No, they say you'll get paid at first, then they get a bunch of members and then just drop out. Way too many internet scams to trust some jerks like this... and besides, reading spam is worth more than that:-)
Of course breaking into houses is easy, but it usually involves smashing the door pretty bad with a crow-bar. And besides, it's not the act of using this software that's being discussed here, it's the act of making and distributing it. For example, nobody is out there sueing Stanley (A large maker of tools) or Sears because they make crow-bars.
The project needs hits... they probably don't really mind getting some. They're not getting setback 2 days, they're getting ahead a couple months by Slashdot users actually using it and giving them a good foundation.
So yeah, they should post mirrors, but this is better than no story at all, by a lot.
The cable companies did so much legal junk in the past (blatent paying off of senators... judges, congressmen..) that you really shouldn't use it for anything legal. Basically Cable companies got a bunch of junk put on Sattilte tv access, so regular sattilite sucks, and nobody uses it.
About your car? Your car doesn't falsely advertise that it's capable of going 150... it's just a fact that can be judged by logic. What? you don't think Gateway will make this into a huge scam? 2000 FREEEEEEE Songs!!!!
Apple would need time to really make OS-X a viable platform for Intel. Even though they could release a development release right away, they wouldn't have accelerated 3d drivers, or a lot of other really important stuff right away, and apple has never been big on games. Yeah, they'd eventually release it, but even if it was in time, it wouldn't be much of a fight between mac and linux.
And what? a bunch of the people who are always saying "If linux would just support XXX..." wouldn't switch when it did? Sure, they could peacefully co-exist for a while, but most apple users would switch to linux 100% if the app/driver support was as good as Windows.
Dude, look at your title... Its mouse smuggling. It wouldn't be smuggling if it wasn't anything illegal. Besides, how would any security guard tell the difference between cancer prone mice, and regular lab mice?
If microsoft dropped out of the scene, the desktop industry would be so much better, it wouldn't be funny. Mozilla would suddenly become #1 in browser usage... already #1 in quality. All the total idiots who couldn't even get mandrake running would stop buying junk from spammers... that would be a huge plus. And of course, we'd finally have a secure, stable, and open envirenment.
Unfortunatly, it would have the backfire effect of killing Appple, but who cares about Apple?:-)
Actually major manufactorers generally shine in puny junk pc's. For example, I couldn't build a machine but a tiny bit better than these junkheaps for $200... but I could build a dual althon MP for under $1500, with 1 or 2 gb ram, and 2 120hds... a cdrw, and high-end radeon. Maybe even make that a dvd-rw
No actually we dont like Canada because its so... Cold. And hey, maybe thats why you've got so many socialists... everyone is too busy freezing to notice that the Communists are taking over.
Ignore it... I'm from Florida, and I'm just tired of everyone pointing their fingers at us for being dumb. Remember, it was the left-wing seniors that voted wrong, not me.
No, actually it means the opposite, unless someone sues someone else... like always.
If the mice are not patentable in Canada, then anyone can genetically produce them, or however they feel like it. This would lead to lower costs of cancer prone mice... so Canada could have many exported to the U.S.... If they don't die of cancer first.
Yes, there was a permissions bug. Bug 163524 would mess up the permissions in the components directory if a earlier version had been installed. This would cause any non-root user to not be able to run mozilla, at all. Most distributions come standard with mozilla, so it's very hard to get a installation without it... making the release a hurdle for practically everyone.
As the post said... this is a fix release. If you got to sites that use DHTML, or couldn't get Mozilla 1.2 installed (It had a nasty permissions bug on UNIX, which kept it from being run by a normal user). Basically, get this release, but dont expect any cool features... it's just a bug fix release.
...So Cheap that it couldn't handle a little slashdot traffic. Probably using ISS on win2k the jerks.
Literally though, what could cost more on linux than win2k. With so much more OSS software for Linux, it's obviously less expencive for software, and hardware, and you don't need as many people to run a linux-based network as windows based.
In my experience Man pages have been much much much better than windows help. I mean, when was the last time you heard of someone using windows help, and it actually helping them?? Besides, there's a host of Books out there, and they generally update them for every distro.
Anyway, what's your religious belief? you obviously have one by your sig.
By the way, I could come up with a lot more aggressive bible verses, Just want to be a small light so people can ask questions, or rethink their life for a sec.
Why not QT/KDE? Well, one reason is GTK/GNOME has stayed backward compatible on themes for quite a while. KDE just hasn't, and they still haven't implemented some theme stuff they promised a while ago.
Dont take that as a KDE flame, I'm running it now I'm so lazy.
They're probably aiming at the embedded market... motherboards. With a embedded graphics card there's no hope of really competitive performace, so getting something with no heatsink required is important. It would be nice if they didn't lock the clocks though, so you could overclock it well. It sure would have potential.
The ENVIRONMENT??? hello, they're making these out of SAND for crying out loud! Silicon==SAND. Last time I checked Silicon makes about 80% of the earth's crust, and we don't have to worry about running out!
Ok, I'm just joking, sure there's other stuff invovled like aluminum... etc.

The CD player watches YOU
Oh wait... that's whats happening here.
We'll obviously be able to travel to the future... to get new technology...

That it wasn't much to crack anyway. It's a very simple crypto scheme, and it doesn't work... why can't judges understand this?

Yeah, that and he'd know how to spell editing!

yeah, but it's not going to happen.. ATI and Nvidia both have plenty of cards in the sub $100 market, and a few from each company beat the xabre.
