    How different is what Clean-Flicks doing, by snipping out the "bad" parts and marking the tape as edited, versus Wal-Mart selling CD's censored by a third party, often not even marking them at all?

    You named the difference right there.

    Walmart gives you edited content and frequently doesn't tell you its edited. These folks do.

    Suppose I bought a DaVinci painting, and painted over most of it, but left the signature, then sold it to someone as a DaVinci. That would be fraud, theft by deception, and in the very least unethical.

    That is precisely what CleanFlix is doing to movies.


    No it isn't. All the movies are clearly marked as having been edited.

    i dont believe that a person or company may alter a movie and then sell it, essentially makeing profit off of someone elses merchandise. This is not fair use, this is theft.

    So basically, you're claiming it should be illegal for stores to mark up the price on a product beyond what they paid for it?

    After all, they're making a profit off of someone else's merchandise too.

    Better outlaw capitalism just to be safe...

    People here keep going "Well, you can flash the ROM and sidestep region-coding that way."

    That's just one of the things it can do.

    Unrestrict DVD: This filter removes various usage restrictions from a DVD, including region lockout, APS (Macrovision), and disabled fast-forwarding, menu call, angle change, and so forth.

    The ability to remove those stupid control lockouts is what's really great. That it gets rid of region-lockouts is simply a bonus.

    As other have said, the best moment is at the end. That was just... cold.

    Didn't seem like a pilot though. Isn't there a two hour pilot or something that's supposed to be airing later on? I kind of felt lost, like I walked into the series halfway through...

    The "Crazy" girl from the Academy for some reason made me think of the Ghosts from Starcraft. Being altered to become a psychically enhanced assassin?

    As for the plot, it served it's purpose. Come on, people are always complaining about horrible plots with gaping holes in them. As simple and straightfoward as it was, it was executed well.

    I'm guessing this will be a show that will rely on the strength of its characters.

    And I liked them thus far.

    This series has promise.

    Then again, I rather enjoyed the Enterprise pilot and look where it got me...

    UPN's website for Buffy reduces the characters to similar titles.

    The Slayer, The Witch, The Loyal, The Key, The Bloody, The Demon, The Sorcereress, and the Watcher.

    But I doubt many people would argue that Buffy's characters are two-dimensional because of that.

    Blake's Seven was created by Terry Nation who created the Daleks, IIRC, and wrote many Doctor Who episodes. Furthermore, the two shows shared a number of guest stars and, occassionally, props. The look and feel is also very similar to Doctor Who.

    Innocent people have nothing to hide. Only the guilty need to hide things, therefore, no one should be opposed to having all information about themselves made available to the government, unless they are the ones who deserve it to be so.

    Please post your real name, home address, phone number, social security number, birth date and credit card information. After all, what do you have to hide?

    Read the act again.

    Read the act yourself. Terrorism is so broadly defined that it could easily be applied to rival political groups.

    I don't expect it to be used that way in the next couple years, but once the "War on Terrorism" has died down and lost urgency, new and enterprising applications of the PATRIOT Act will be found. That's when the problems begin.

    Heck, the two creation myths in the Bible don't even match up with each other, much less with what actually happened.

    Remember kids, every time a gap in fossil record is filled, two more gaps are created!

    Just because you don't know about the countless intermediary fossils that we've discovered for many species, including our own, doesn't mean they exist. We've got quite a nice progression from our common ancestor with ape to modern man, thankyouverymuch.

    The ebonics "uproar" was over a program to *use* local vernacular like Ebonics to *teach* proper English. Which is what the teachers in the article appear to be doing with 133t speak.

    Though you may not have been able to tell from the media coverage, no one ever suggested that Ebonics be taught as an actual language.

    Well, if you want to examine contemporary times, ebonics is (controversially) and accepted 'language' in some parts of the nation.

    The "ebonics in schools" uproar was actually fairly inaccurate.

    It was about a teaching method(constrasive analysis?) that *uses* local vernacular, like Ebonics, to *teach* proper language.

    Not surprisingly, the usual suspects in the corporate media successfully mischaracterized the situation so that the public and lawmakers had no idea what it was actually about.
