In a way, it's too bad that Mohammad wasn't around when Christ was walking the holy land. If the Prophet of Islam had met Christ, they would probably have formed one relgion instead of two.

Excuse me? The two religions are not compatible. The only way I can make your statement work is if the "Prophet of Islam" became a Christian.

This is why I gripe and complain anytime I see someone doing sql calls without using placeholder routines, such as perl's DBI or PEAR::DB for php. From the technical doc that someone posted above:
If your code is doing escaping "by hand", for instance by doubling quotes and backslashes, you really need to fix it to use the library routines instead. If you're avoiding the need for escaping at all, by sending variable strings as out-of-line parameters, then you've saved yourself a whole lot of trouble and can stop worrying.
Start using a proper placeholder syntax and variable substitution for parameters when it comes to untrusted data. It solves a lot of problems.

No, but there are neighborhood watch groups, and it is normal to call the police if a door looks like it is hanging ajar. It's also normal to petition the local government to install or repair streetlights in dark or dangerous areas. Due to the nature of computing (zombies, identity theft) I think it is very much my business to see that my neighbors are secure as well.

ahha! This bit of info was missing in the earlier post. Actually, this backs up the claim that the professor works for the students. In this case, one paying customer was interfering with other paying customers, so of course, you want to remove him to protect your investment in the other customers.

But if all the students think they can learn better with their laptops, and it's not disripting the other students... why bother? Sounds like they are wasting their own money at worst. In this case it sounds like the pofessor was going too far; I'd take my money elsewhere. Then the school is out of a tuition that they didn't need to lose.

It's analogous to a tech support person losing a customer for calling them stupid. Bad decision on the tech's part.... and the customer goes somewhere else.

However, most people are like sheep... and may well end up back where they started anyway.
