I found an effective deterrent against buying a new videogame console:
1. Get rid of your old tv. Mine's a small 13-inch tv, so that's no problem. 2. Buy a TV tuner card 3. Hook up videogame console to TV tuner card(on your nice 17 inch monitor) and play through your computer.
4. Realize you could of saved yourself all that trouble by playing said games on your computer.
funny you mention your favorite newsgroups. Many moons ago I used to hang out on alt.mcdonalds, seeing is that I used to be an ex-McDonald's employee. I shared stories with fofmer and current McD's coworkers. Then these McSpotlight bastards showed up, and proceeded to flood the newsgroup of their potest against the mighty McEmpire. Suddenly 99% of the posts were just announcements and drivel from them, with no respect to the group's regulars.
There was a story about a guy who lived in the boonies of Minnesota, who had his own Rotorway exec he took off from his backyard to his workplace.
His neighbors were screaming "but what about the kids?" and were trying very hard to prohibit him from using it in his yard, fearing the kids would be diced up. (uh, no).
I've seen the plans for the Rotorway Exec, and it looks like a REAL helicopter. No top monuted yoke(*my biggest complaint about autogyros and 1-man helicopters).
I've also seen those $10 plans you see for ultralight helicopters, and there seems to be MANY unansewred questions to it, and no indicators, or real controls. One helicopter plan I saw(which looks like it was drafted by an 8-year old) was controlled by bending your body forwards/backwards instead of a standard yoke. Gack. I could build something better out of $400 worth of Technic lego.
There's an HP keyboard I saw that has a TON of extra internet-related keys like that. Uesless stuff for "shopping", "people",etc.
My question is, how hard would it be to make your own drivers to make the keys do your bidding? I had one of those fancy multimedia keyboards that had semi-useless(but uncustomizable) features such as calculator, sleep mode, etc. Eventually I renamed WINAMP.EXE to CALC.EXE, and I was able to bring up my tunes with one keypress.
Why am i seeing paragraph-long advertisements(more like spam) for several banks on practically every other post on this article?? Something's not right here.
I heard about Autodesk and Lego cooking somethgng up. Finally glad to see some real results here. I've been waiting for ages for an 'official" CAD program for Lego. I tried a few of the homebrew packages, but many didn't even come close to working, giving me THOUSANDS of files, but not functioning. Now I can finally draft some of my projects sitting on paper for years.
So why was the lenghtly, and well-written review of Win2K several posts up moderated to "offtopic", and this post saying Win2K a "Flop" moderated to "informative"? Gotta love that biased linux zealot moderation
Well, perhaps there is a software solution to this.
1. Release your DVD player software that, for some strange reason, turns off macrovision and lets you change the regions around as much as you want.
2. Release a "patch" to turn on the macrovision and prohhibit region changing to please the MPAA and stockholders. Have te readme list what it EXACTLY will patch up.
The solution? Just don't install the patch. Admit the macrovision and regional bypasses as "bugs" and let the QA team take the hit. Hmm, I see a potential moneymaker here.
>>The law bans spam that has misleading information in the e-mail's subject line, disguises the path it took across the Internet or contains an invalid reply address.
Just out of curiousity, is there a technical solution to this? Like, someone sends out an email with a totally forged address, and have the server discard it, and put in the correct From: address?
I had to support this software about 3 years ago. I believe there was a backdoor password that's the current date(its been a while). Also, you can just Ctrl-Alt-Delete your way out.
>Remember the problems we used to have with the >old videogame systems (Atari VCS, Intellivision, >Colecovision? Joysticks that had crappy ergonomics or worn out too quickly, having to clean the electrical contacts with a pencil eraser , crappy picture because of the old $2.50 switchboxes...wasn't so bad after all!
The only two that stick out in my mind were the Atari 5200 joysticks. They broke all the time. I think the remaining 5200 joysticks that never broke are in the Smithsonian.
And we all remember the days of getting garbage on the TV when we tried to play out favorite 8-bit Nintendo cartridges for the umpteenth time(accompanied by the blinking red light). We always blew in the cartridges(even though we weren't supposed to) and tried it again and again. Ahh those were the days.
In terms of personal experiences, the stands for the Nintendo Virtual Boy were flimsy(at least the plastic sections), and broke way too easily under the stress of the unit itself.

But this will only work if MS decides to
That is the best Idea I have heard yet. instead of competing with the best & worst qualities between Windows and Linux, it'd be preferrable to have the best of both worlds. Sure, there's that corporate mentality that would make this verboten, but it would ultimately benefit everyone. Imagine a world without IPFs, and an interface everyone can use, with fully-compliant 3rd party hardware. Hmm.
I bought a copy of Linux Journal(Btw slashdot, lego prefers it if you call it "Lego" not "Legos") since it had a copy of TurboLinux on it. So I installed it(awful setup process), and I still can't get anything to network on it. No matter how many times I try(and check the config), Apache won't start. oh well. Back to Redhat I guess.
I do many of my web pages in just the Arial font. Looking at what NEtscape Composer and FrontPage 2000 do, they put font tags for EVERY line and paragraph/cell seperation, etc. Is this really needed?
If I just had a 1-font web page, wouldn't I only need one tag at the beginning and end? Looking at some of my other pages, they have font tags within font tags. Wonder how much I can slim down.
I'm glad to see others remember the good 'ol TI-994/A version of this game. Heh. First machine too.
Funny you mentioned the licensing. There was some bickering from Texas Instruments regading the V9T9 emulator, requirings its ROMs. I don't get it. They abandoned all of us around September of 1983 by "orphaning" the computer and they yell at everyone for emulating it?
Friend of mine showed me the difference between some low-end radar detector and the higher-up model by adding in a 10 cent light.
Remember a friend of mine modifying my caller ID unit to hold twice as many numbers, with a method similar(no bios flashing tho) to the RAID controller.
>As a side note, i plan to start streaming TV as son as i get a faster Internet connection so NBC WATCH OUT! IM STEALING VIEWERS!:o),/p>
It's easier than you think. When I was messing around with Microsoft Netmeeting(which doesn't even come close to working at all), I was able to pipe in my TV card instead of my webcam. People I chatted with were watching the Drew Carey show instead of my ugly mug. Pretty fun actually.

You just gave me an idea. Outer space bungee jumping. The ultimate in extreme sports.
My ghod is that allidiots.com funny, yet ultra-disgusting. But it is fun to test out my new DSL on
So when does Netscape come out for Amiga?

Is Ron Perlman gonna be in this? he should since, well, he doesn't need any makeup to do an ape role. Proof: Alien 4: Resurrection

Wow, the Gods really must be crazy(TM)

So with that technology, can I FINALLY get some DSL service now? Im waiting......

I'm still laughing from the "clownpenis.fart" reference in yesterday's threads.
