Buying domestic (which would include goods made by Americans -- therefore fighting outsourcing), or creating tariffs to that effect, is actually more defensible than you make it out to be. You see, much of the perceived price increase at the consumer end is actually in taxes to the government, which then goes on and provides services to its citizens. As long as the taxes are going to your government, that is not such a bad deal. But if a government comes along, and by slashing these services (or having a third world standard of living) creates a good that is less expensive to the end-consumer, the consumer will be paying a tax to that foreign government which will provide no return of services. Moreover, wealth is leaving the local economy, and will probably not be used to buy local consumables. I do not think that I even need to get into the current account deficit here.
And they were perfectly right to do it, too. He was corrupting the youth.
Your point 2 will have to be buttressed by something quite a bit stronger than "frations and the idea of the number 0" before I will admit it though. Point 1 misses the point of why the Republic has so much to teach us today.

Yes, I should have pointed that out. Jared Taylor is a racist, but I would add certain qualifications to that term. He is no Nazi or KKK member or even anti-Semitic -- that is what earns him the title of "most dangerous," or so I heard when NPR interviewed him a while back. The argument is that by not advocating violence or legal discrimination, he makes racism more respectable. I certainly disagree with a number of things that he says, but he says nothing that would be considered racist were he Black, American Indian, or Hispanic. At least so far as I have read in his work. The worst thing I could say about him is that he is a separatist -- in that he believes in the failure of people in multicultural societies to get along together peacefully. I have read some of the American Renaissance articles on the site. Some I disagree with vehemently, but others I couldn't recommend more. He talks about race honestly. He believes in racial differences. And he believes that he should act to support his own race. I am not prepared to condemn him so long as he sticks to that particular stance.
I pointed out his article because the black-white dimension of prison rape is real and ignored. If I knew someone other than Taylor who wrote about it, I would have pointed that out instead. In fact that is the best argument I can make for at least considering his viewpoints. Taylor often writes about extremely important subjects that are otherwise ignored because of our ideology.
Videogames influence people. And some videogames are made to make kids kill. Okay -- that was a little bit of a joke -- but the point is that entertainment influences people. And that influence is especially felt by the young. Socrates' discussion of music in the Republic was not a silly argument.
I believe that it is an immoral thing to create such a violent video game for exactly that reason. The designers should certainly be censured as immoral. I am not calling for government action, rather I am saying that we as a society should express clear standards of right and wrong. It should be clear to everyone what is and is not socially acceptable. Parental standards are where it starts, of course, but parents should be buttressed by the society they live in, not attacked by it. I would even go so far as to say that the real problems with are society today are linked to the fact that it is no longer completely organized around the task of raising children.

Actually, prison rape is a very racial thing. He was completely right to point out that it would almost certainly be large black men doing the raping. You see, the black gangs, and the Hispanic gangs, do not let anybody (else) touch members of their own race. The whites fail to form such gangs, and are victimized. Often the youngest white males, usually in for some sort of first time drug offence, are in the most danger. Check out the article Hard Time by Jared Taylor.
Oh come on, they would have had to be in denial to think that GTA wouldn't be played by a large number of kids -- even if it is 'targeted' at the 18-25 market. 'Targeting' doesn't matter nearly so much as the fact of who is actually playing it.
The designers knew exactly who would be playing this game: children.
Children have minds, yes, and that is why these teenagers are responsible for this incident. That does not mean that the manner in which they were raised is meaningless. Influences matter.
Before you knee-jerk at this one, remember that it is the prosecutor who is explaining their actions here. They are being prosecuted for their crime. So yes, they are being blamed. However, it is in society's interests to look at their influences as well as sending them to jail. Media has influence. You cannot make a game that will be played by children, and hope that children will not be affected. That is not how children work.
Everquest is not designed to be a diversion as are most games (and other forms of entertainment). Because of the subscription model, it was created as a Skinner Box of a game, designed only to take up time. There is no intellectual element whatsoever in Everquest. The forces of desire that this game taps into are purely Pavlovian. There is little to seperate it from something like Statbuilder. I would feel a little sick to have created something so actively nihilistic.
The roadmap has previously stated that 1.5 would mark the begining of the switch to Firebird. Doesn't look like we're going to get it until 1.6 at the earliest.
You could also create a program to translate the binary from x86 instructions to whatever equivalent instructions you would like. The API wrapper (WINE) is the only hard part about running the program then.
Could you please troll me about something that I can get worked up about instead? I just can't make the effort right now for defending the dictionary definition of emulator.
The USSR did huge studies on this, varying the flourine levels and getting statistics.
Mod the parent down. I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.
Addendum: If 'highly technical information' really isn't protected speech, then that is a wonderful opportunity for the government to regulate scientific journals. You know, to keep the terrorists from getting ideas.
It seems likely that the article misinterpreted the decision. The first line gives a more probable interpretation of what the Court actually said (which is in line with the first decision on this):
The California Supreme Court ruled Monday that a Web publisher could be barred from posting DVD-copying code online without infringing on his free speech rights.
It seems to me that the Courst felt that free speech was not at issue. The article quotes the court:
"Disclosure of this highly technical information adds nothing to the public debate over the use of encryption software or the DVD industry's efforts to limit unauthorized copying of movies on DVDs," the court wrote. "We do not see how any speech addressing a matter of public concern is inextricably intertwined with and somehow necessitates disclosure of DVD CCA's trade secrets."
So the Court is creating a distinction between speech and 'information.' And it is saying that government can regulate 'information' to the hilt. This is defining the concept of speech down rather than putting trade secret law over free speech. I still hope that SCOTUS slams them hard on this one.
Interestingly enough, your interpretation is not grammarically correct. Notice that the "well regulated militia" phrase is a justification, not a condition, on the second phrase. What you would have liked the founders to write is this: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed if they belong to said militia." They didn't write that though.
After conducting a scientific survey based on all 'Funny' moderated comments in your user history, I have been able to diagnose you as severely humor-impaired. Happily, this condition will probably not interfere with your day-to-day routine. It may however have certain deleterious consequences towards major relationships in your life. If symptoms occur, such as your wife cheating on you with an unemployed black crack addict, try not to dwell on them. Such events are unavoidable for people in your condition. No cure is known to exist. Some people who have experienced what you are experiencing have chosen to end what they view as a pointless and terminally dull existence. Sometimes their friends have as well. It may be wise to take up a hobby such as train schedule table memorizing or snail taxonomic categorization to make sure this does not happen to you.

It can be stopped. But it means learning the lesson that free trade is a deeply flawed ideology. It means voting for this guy.

I don't think that you understand the definition of the word 'emulator.'
This is pretty neat stuff. Making 3D monitors using saranwrap is like starting nuclear fusion with old coffee grinds.

That is true. But it always gets applied to other businesses. I've never heard of it being applied to journalists.
Or bludgeon you to death because you caught them. But at least you'll save some lives of those poor burglars!
