In my experience, when a battery suddently dies, it's because it has gone into reversal (polarity has reversed). Once batteries reach this state, chargers won't recharge them. Cheap batteries (Hama) have this problem much more frequently than Duracell or Energizer (I can't speak to other brands). I've fixed "dead" batteries by installing them backwards in a flashlight with good batteries and turning the flashlight on for ~30 minutes. The "dead" batteries can then be recharged.
Disclamer: I've done this for about a dozen batteries and it has worked fine. YMMV
ps - Ever notice that the crapiest batteries (Hama) have a name similar to the best recharger brand (Maha)? Going for consumer confusion?
It's why two four-lane highways, one with a 55 mph speed limit and one with a 65 mph speed limit will both see the same basic average speed of travel.
In the US, I can see that happening because the speed limit was 55 mph for so long. Here in the UK, the motorways are mostly 4 & 6 lane, and individual speeds normally vary between 45 & 110 mph.
However, distance is severely limited. It works in a game-room just fine though.
I wouldn't recommend whole-house GigE with Cat5e. It might work, but only for a sufficiently small value of "house."
For us commoners with houses under 4,050 m^2 (40,000 ft^2)*, cat5e works fine.

What about the teachers? Do they care when a teacher uses a copyrighted image they downloaded in a lesson? Or uncredited material for their lessons?
Under fair use, copyrighted material can be used for educational purposes. If the teachers are trying to pass the work off as their own, or photocopying entire textbooks, then it's another matter.
There are lots of us atheists who have a very strong sense of morality which has nothing to do with illegality.
I've always differentiated between morality and ethics as the former is based on theology, and the latter philosophy. That's not strictly the dictionary definition, but it works for me.
But most people are getting fixed interest payments.
Not for the big loans. See http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8574006 40 percent of mortgages over $360,000 that have closed so far this year are "neg-am" loans. These are a mix of balloon & variable rate loans, but the effect is the same: the mortgage payments increase over time. My point is still valid: if interest rates go up, house prices stay flat, or wages stay flat, a lot of people will lose their houses.
TV's don't contain all your documents, passwords, pictures, movies, email, etc. For most people, the trouble of migrating their data is a huge deterrent to upgrading. Of course, there's a business opportunity for the poster in migration services.
Well, it has happened so many times in the Earths history (while we had life on the planet) that if we are "fucked" we wouldn't be here discussing it.
Well, humans haven't been around that long, and human civilization for a lot less time. Sure, life on Earth (probably) won't end at the next reversal, but human civilization will be greatly diminished at a minimum. I go along with the "fucked" assessment.
People are buying houses based on their monthly payments. This is fine if they get a fixed interest rate, and plan on living in the same place for 30 years.
The problem is that people aren't getting fixed interest payments. Most are getting variable rate balloon mortgages. If interest rates go up, or their salaries stay flat, they won't be able to pay their bills.
I lead a team that has development and maintenance responsiblities. For scheduling new tasks, I use each team member's average non-maintenance time. If someone usually spends half their time handling emergencies, then they count as 1/2 a person. Then I usually add 50% to the total time because things always go worse than I think they will.

I get this feeling it will turn out like Dune; in other words, there will be a big Hollywood production, and it will suck. Then fifteen years later, the SciFi channel will do it right.
. . . and counting.

6000 mAH C cells and 11,000 mAH D Cells. I've used earlier versions of the Powerx C & D cells and they work great.

A four way, hetrogeous video chat shouldn't be a pipedream with todays technology
That's what I was hoping for, but from the FAQ:
[05-05-2005 replicant] Can I use it for multi-video conferencing?
Not at the moment. In the future it will be possible to offer this functionality.
I think we need a new moderation category.
