The suckiest idea since the invention of the mechanical clock. And the digital ones.
Sun goes up - day begins. Sun goes down - day ends. Simple.
Or... as in my case: I code manically 'til about 7.00 in the morning, then sleep 'til about 15.00 in the afternoon. Unless someone calls me and wakes me up earlier.
That gives me: no daylight.
You can see how much in need of DST I am!
On the other hand, today I'm up early (because I went to bed 20.00 yesterday after a two day coding maraton. Yeah, I think I might have some kind of disorder, but I squeezed in some skate boarding for health...)
I consistently fall back to green on black or yellow on almost-black blue.
The tinting of the black to become just a little blue seems to help a lot in efforless working for me. It's far easier on the eyes for me when working maraton hours programming. And that's something I've done a lot throughout my life.
Black on white is quickly very tiring - for why I don't know. This has been true for me on CRT's and in the last few years on exclusively TFT.
In my early days of computing I spent more time "fixing the computing evironment" than actually doing "stuff that matters". Like coding new window managers and guis and ofcourse - trying just about all color combinations in the world...
Well, then maybe Australia should start a war on New Zealand - considering their practises for cooling beer and it's impact on actually having any beer...
Wow, I've just gotten a label for myself: introvert. I associate the word introvert with something negative, but after these few descriptions here (unverified by me, he) I realise it fits me (and in case it's not understood, I'm not negative;-). I spend a lot of time by my self. I can be alone for five days straight, not seeing anyone, but then my girlfriend usually think it's about time we meet up. But I'm not shy nor socially disfunct, quiet the contrary. I also leave my phone most of the time, and throughout all the years I've always heard complaints - it never ends - of how hard I am to reach. I got an account on a 'socializing site' after looong nagging from my friends. The few times I used it for a while I was shocked at the amount of time many spend "talking" to each other in this system - basically saying nothing. Hell, if I wanna talk to someone I hop on the bike or walk there. And then we talk. Talking is alot more than words. So when I do socialize, I like it to be full fidelity, not ascii 7bit reduced or mpg-compressed.
I always enjoy the moment and the now, being absorbed in whatever I'm working with - whether programming, playing guitar, skate boarding or gardening. That's hard to do if you're always under the constant "threat of interruptance".
I DO think the programming and TV in general affects our minds, EVERYTHING affects us, or we wouldn't be human.
What I think would be the best of deals where if instead of "paying" through watching adverts and sometimes monthly/yearly fees we payed per view (oh, I do now the concept of pay-per-view exists, but here me out). Nothing, NOTHING, should be shown on the TV - programmed. Available shows, movies and programs should be presented, perhaps in a catalog, and one would have to order the program and pay for it. If one actively have to choose a certain program or movie (like we do when we go rent one), I think one would be much more selective and I think one would think more about the value the viewing can provide.
This way the producers of shows also would have to sharpen up (or perhaps all they'd produce is big brother?)
Nowadays people just turn on the TV because of their "genetic need" for company. Rather than sekking up an old friend, when all others are at work or whatever, you just hit a button. Instant company.
And then your stuck with whatever's on.
So to conclude:
You should have to actively choose and then also make an active action (go to the video store, order by phone, etc) to get to view what you want to see. This way nothing is censored, everything is available, but it's not pushed on to you.
I live in Sweden, so it wouldn't be too hard to get there. But now I've already promised my girl friend to go to her parents this weekend!
Why couldn't you guys have posted this earlier!!?
I think this party seems really cool. A mixture of all and all platforms and ways of artistic expression, even "analouge"... Seems a lot more fun then the demo/swap parties I've ever attended...
Simplicity is not something that's good.. Being able to do everything via keyboard, in the gui, is good.. I like gui, but I dont like moving my hand to the mouse or pen.. Everything should be easily (hmm..) accessible via keyboard movements.. It is mostly, but I still think keyboard 'navigation' in dialogs, menus etc, could be much better.
When I want to listen to music, no hassle, I listen to mp3's.. When I want to 'feel' themusic, I play vinyls (on my VERY cheap vinylplayer).. Who cares about soundquality (well, ok, I guess most people including me..) the 'feel' is more important too me.. It's psychological.. If anyoneone likes to listen to cd's all the time because they're supposed to be superior, that's alrighty with me..
Mmm, what was the point of my message again? Nevermind..
Yep, agree.. I start to here voices and see things flying in the corners of my eyes..
But I think there's some truth too the story. Several years ago aI heard the sam thing.. It was about a scientist in Japan who swore by sleeping only 4 hours every night.. It was said that it would make the brain capable of processing more complex stuff, but it would be slower at all processing.. I kinda recognize that..
Anyway, I think I've lived pretty much this way since I was 14 or do (when I got my A500 that is, any connection;) and, well, I do get the best test scores in the class.. But.. I don't think that's much of evidence..
How about the ole NOSPAM in the email method? Or, if you're really concerned, remove your adress completely, or, use a separate (*web*mai;) adress for news postings.. anyway, the usenet still rules, anyone disagreeing must.. hmm.. well, they're not agreeing with me..;)

I completely agree!
BTW, I still think usenet is the best place to find answers and information.. The web is cluttered up with porn pages and shitty corporation pages, making it hard to get relevant hits in search engines.. I'm exxagurating a bit, but... Don't get me wrong, companys on the net is good.. But not when 200zillions of their pages are indexed in altavista or something..
How about "Dark City", I saw that movie the same night I saw "The Matrix" and It deals the same think, but there's no 'puters involved, instead there are extraterrestials who've built a city in which humans live thinking it's a real world. Every night the aliens 'tune' and change each persons personality to someone else.. etc.. Oscar
It's 'inbuilt' in X.. Press ctrl+shift+NumLock, now you can control the pointer with the num pad, click '5' after pressing an 'arrow' and it moves faster.. Use + to click, can't remember the other keys, but there is docs about this.. Shouldn't be too hard to find..
I agree before the PC I now own I had an Amiga, well I've been thorugh at least 4 Amigas and I really loved DP IV for pixeling, and I used PhotoGenics a lot too! If it's better for _creating_ art with I'll probably buy it, since I find GIMP and PS5 to lack a bit of well.. usability and tools to easily create images from scratch (although it is possible..)
Anyway.. Will PhotoGenics on Linux have support for tablets (digitizers)?
I think he ment the excellent sound editor / HD recording software CoolEdit Pro.. Not the text editor (cooledit texteditor is by the way a linux program)...

EU is basically a criminal organisation in that they habitually make unreasonable laws!

Just my instant thoughts.
I'm in a instrumental funk-jazz band and we've named all our songs after Commodore 64 games; One of our demos was named "Revenge Of The Mutant Camels"

True. Companies like MS, McD and Nike.
