    The GUI for the Connect app looks awful familiar \though...
    The display, based on technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology spinoff E Ink Corp., is composed of tiny capsules with electrically charged particles of white and black ink. When a static electric charge is applied on the side of the capsule that faces the reader, it attracts the white particles to the face of the display, making that pixel show light gray. Reversing the charge brings the black pigments floating through the capsule to replace the white pigments, and the pixel shows as dark gray.

    for some things, like manuals in the field or for work elements or long bus rides and such, but not for casual home use. If I'm gonna read a book, I like to sit in a recliner and actually turn pages. The only thing I would use it for is for traveling or having reference on the fly.

    I didn't say it was a perfect system. But how would you feel if somone set up a pirate cell cervice and you couldn't call out becuase of interference? You're paying for the service to send and receive phone calls, won't you be a little upset if the peope down the street are talking for free interupting your service?

    Some laws that are in place do make sense. The FCC rules for broadcasting are in place for safety actually. Granted, a pirate radio station probaly won't bring down an airline, but what if it does interfere with radio transmissions in the ambulance and 911 when the operator is trying to say got left on Pine and all you here is salsa music? That's a potential hazard. There are better ways to make statements now than broadcasting over a pirated radio broadcast.

    I must say that I haven't had much of a problem w/ XP. The hardware detection works fairly well through all 3 motherboards I've used on this computer and when a program crashes, it doesn't seem to take the ship with it. I'm by no means a MS fan, but if I have to chose a Windows version to do any work, XP seems to be it as of now.

    Maybe not a complete fix, but it is indeed a step in the right direction. Let's face it. Technology isn't going away. To teach students in high school as en elective A+ certifcation or Network Design or even getting a MCP cert (LPI would be great, but eh, let's be realistice here) would be great. More importantly it would help these kids when they get to college because they could get a job in a tech field even as if it's a help desk job or techie somwhere because you have the cert and some experience.

    Did you ever consider going to school board meetings and bringing this up or passing petitions around? Get enought students/parents interested and maybe the school board will hear the people..and if not, well aren't the school board advisors voted in?

    I think it depends on the headline and interest to a person. For instance, a headline "10% more people buy cars than trucks", I wouldn't even consider clicking on the headline. I simply don't care. Now, "Glock to buy Heckler and Koch", I would definitely read because I'm an avid firearms collector.

    It's not really a complex system he has set up here. But really at 15, this isn't that impressive. We're in a technology advanced time now where junior high students are taking programming classes and building their own site and computers all the time. Computers are still the future. What would have been interesting is if he was 5 years old. Think about it all the people on here that have less computer-literate neighbors and friends that are older...is it really far fetched that a 15 year old could do this?

    I still fail to see how it is a copyright infringement to link to news articles? It's not like Google is hosting the article on it's own website...it's linking. It's a shame that companies are so money hungry that they want to be paid for someone directing traffic to their site. Next business will want money from taxi drivers for delivering customers.

    I bet it'd be neat in space, but it should be mandatory training to get a acclimated to the perils of being in space. Surely if you can afford to be a space tourist you can afford to get some lessons. They don't send scuba divers in the ocean without training.

    It would be a really neat experience to see the stars without the obstruction of atmosphere.

    Victims should be told right away that it is suspected that there was a breach, and outlined how an investigation will be performed. But it should be careful (mostly for legal reasons) that it be reserved and only enough information be given.

    That's a bad example. Asking someone to kill someone is illegal weather you specify the means or not. To catch someone leaking information is not. If I walk into my boss's office and say I think someone is leaking our sensitive information, I'm gonna try to see who it is and he says ok then fine. If he says ok, but how?, then he has a potential problem.

    Fromt the article: "None of the e-mails reviewed by The Post were to or from Hurd, nor do they detail what information Hurd had when he approved the sting operation."

    Just because he approved the action to sting the reporter, he didn't necessairily know what the means were.

    The question is what are the functions that will be offered? Will you be able to make big posters in the document program or make a chart a different sheet in the worksheet? Another question is how obtrusive will the ads be? Security is also a concern. If you can just logon to the internet and use a p/l to access the data, it's even easier to leak information by just giving out the information. I think I'll stick to in house operations where I can limit folders to certaion people only and such.

    Something like this should never be expected. That's the exact opposite. We should expect that our information be kept private and locked up somwhere.....of course this is the gov't and they have their own rules...

    I watched V for Vendetta and for as long as the movie was I would have thought more character depth and plot would be there.....perhaps it is due to the fact I never read the comic.

    A great idea it is, but how many OS's are out there that it would need to be a universal driver, right? Or could a driver for MS work for linux and DOS and what not?

  21. A Tech School on Computer Job w/ No Computer Degree? · · Score: 2, Informative

    I went to a technical school and got a dgree in Network and Internet Technology. We learned network methods and each mod class we could get certified in that field. We started with A+ and went to NT (back then it was NT now I'm sure you'd learn XP/2003) and we had a Novell and Linux classes. We didn't have a coding class. The linux course touched on Bash and Perl like it rightly should. Maybe you could look into that.

    ....is beyond me. People are writing things about their companies on blogs and getting fired for it. Why is that such a suprise? If belittle your company in a public place and hurt their image, why shouldn't you be fired.

    Now, this was an internal blog that was actually used BY the CIA employees to discuss information that may be needed...this type of post was uncalled for and deserved a punishment, though maybe a suspension would do. Blogs are nothing but a way to get in trouble.

    as it is that information on the internet changes and updates instantly. It's not that people aren't interested in it as it just gets buried with new news. An article posted 10 minutes ago is now old news. Even on here. I work until 11pm. I come home and scroll down to see if I missed anything good. So between 2:00 when I go to work and 11:30 when I get home there's already at least 10 new stories. Imagine, now, what official news sites are like.

    MySQL isn't RedHat. It's a package that comes with RedHat. I think the support they off will be core related. Like offical RedHat kernel updates and stuff like that.
