I don't care if I'm in debt for years, to me it would be worth the fight to see SCO gone. Plus, I don't think they will be around to see the IBM Lawsuit at the rate of their stocks. Has anyone seen the new dell cases lately? The new tower desktop ones, you have to lay it on its side, then you press two tabs, one on the top and one on the bottom, and you pull it up. The drives are attached to the one side panel, and the motherboard to the other. They really did a good job with the cable routing on the front. They even include a case intrusion detection switch. Yet I have seen it in use. So yes, this design ( minus the "t" part) is already in use by Apple, and Dell, and others :P

I'm not saying that the people out in E-West won't be able to handle anything that comes up, but if something like this (god forbid) happens again, are the /. people gonna fly out there to fix it?

But, I've seen a lot about the windows front, and MONO and other projects for GNU/Linux And/or Open Source in general. But... Has anything been done to try and combine the two where you have a single sign on for both *nix and Windows, where you can have the same favorites, address book, etc?? This is what I would like to see happen, as I use GNU/Linux (gentoo/slack) at my house, in my room, but Windows at my church/family computer/ and school. I would like to have it where I could get the same stuff on all of these machines, but I haven't seen anything about combining the two of them yet. Does anyone know if there is such a project going on??

I've always liked AMD's chips and have had the best lucky with them. Infact, my school's finally upgrading a few boxes with AMD 1600XP's, ANYWAY, not the point of my comment. My comment is this: Ever since I saw the Hammer/Opteron chip, when they FIRST introduced the idea, I drooled over it. I can see the advanages of a back. compat. chip for x86 along with running 64 bit stuff, but I can also see a chip from AMD that JUST does 64-bit.

ANYWAY.... What I would LOVE to see from AMD, is to take their Hammer design, and run with it. Meaning, if possible, move more onto the chip (e.g north bridge) this way you can just pop a new chip in, and you almost have a new motherboard, ALMOST. Also, I would like to see them combine the Hammer design with Clockless Tech (discussed here on /. earlier). With the last, I think if they did that, they would totaly blow intel right out of the water.

Considering my desktop is a Emachine Celery 400, and my laptop is a old IBM Thinkpad 600, at 266, I would LOVE to have a laptop AND a desktop with this chip, that would truely be AWESOME!

    Sir,
One problem with your last statement: "Microsoft isn't going to change its practices unless people STOP BUYING THEIR PRODUCTS." The problem with this statement is the OEMs. Microsoft forces the OEM's to send their computers out with the version of windows they tell them to. And most people in the world are lazy, so when they order, say a computer fro Dell, from the website, they want to be able to have all the options there. On the website for Dell, they ONLY have WinXP Pro and WinXP Home as the two options. Now, if you do call them, you can get other versions installed, but most people won't call them.
I believe this is the problem, because a lot of people I know got new computers and went with Dell/Compaq/HP/Gateway/etc..., and their computers came with WinXP. I know VERY few people that went out and bought WinXP Pro|Home off the shelf as a upgrade or full version. They got Stuck with the OS, because of the computer they bought.

The first that I noticed was that the power button on the top, you sometimes have to press hard, and at a angle to turn it on, off, or backlight. This has gotten a little better (don't ask me why), and now will do with normal pressure. The other is that the back is scratched up, but thats me with stuff in my pocket before I got a case for it :) I only use the craddle for charging, and/or backup, every say, month, so I can't say much on that front. I mainly use it as a stand-along device. Reminders of were I have to be, homework (10th grade student here), addresses, and don't forget those games during class (did I just say that?).
