No one's saying you can't fucking distribute Red Hat just call it something else. It's not like they're preventing you from distributing ISOs then I'd understand all of this bitching.
First of all...this has nothing to do with the GPL...give me one single example in the GPL that says Red Hat can't do what they're doing...
On the other hand, this has everything to do with trademark law. Red Hat is a registered trademark, and therefore if they don't want anyone else to use it, they don't have to.
You can stil reproduce RedHat ISOs verbatim...just don't call it Red Hat...call it something similar...if people are too stupid to figure it out, they are WAY too stupid to use linux in the first place.
But it makes sense for governments not to use software developed by US companies....As the timeline goes to infinity, free OSes, like Linux and BSD must prevail.
Sorry bud...BSD's American grown...well, except for OpenBSD...that's Canadian...granted there are people from all over the world working on BSD, but the seed was planted in America...unlike that other free OS.

Does paypal use linux?
Imagine paypal using a beauwolf cluster...
All your paypal are belong to us...
Bill Gates is a weenie...
Did i forget any?
Yeah, that makes a lot of fucking sense for what is primarily a game machine. If you hadn't noticed, Linux isn't exactly up to it's armpits in 3d games.
Why?
There's a couple of reasons...
1.)Multitasking...multitasking wastes precious clock cycles by doing constant context changes. On windows this is a problem, but less of one because it doesn't launch so many daemons (or services) by default. In reality DOS was the last truly good gaming OS for PCs
2.)X - Let's face it, X just ain't meant for games...DRI is a step in the right direction but it's just another hack. If X can barely keep pace with a fucking web browser how do you think it's gonna handle games? And don't tell me about Quake and Doom and WineX...Yeah they run...but do they work as well as on Windows? I doubt it. (And besides they ain't gonna work on a PS because a PS ain't x86!)
3.)Boot time...Linux takes quite a while to boot...and you have to boot a lot of stuff that most games never end up even using. (Consoles...sockets...virtual memory...the kitchen sink...) and then once you get Linux booted, then you get to load your game, oh brother!
I love Linux as much as the next guy...but it's not the freakin' cure for world hunger and not really the best way to run games.
I heard that the EM radiation from Intel's new 3GIO bus interferes with 3G wireless devices. Intel has therefore been blocking the introduction of 3G wireless in the US.
Even for a slashdot post...that's pretty stupid!
Even if it does interfere with 3G devices, Intel doesn't have the kind of power to block introduction of 3G.
Yeah really...isn't Linux supposed to be better with minimalist hardware? I mean sure if you want command line only...but I wouldn't even think of running KDE or Gnome on my P-120...the friggin thing hickups all the time with XFree 3.3.6 and Blackbox
Don't get me started on office suites...it's kinda funny that stupid bloated Word 2000 will run on my computer and fucking OpenOffice requires double the hardware configuration...
I hope Microsoft wins this battle. The stupid antitrust laws should be repealed anyway. They're over 100 years old!
I'm sure this will get modded way down b/c/. is anti-microsoft, but it's not their fault they're a monopoly. If IBM had bought DOS from MS instead of just licensing it, or if Apple were more competent or if *NIX hadn't become so fragmented, or if consumers had a clue about anything computer related.
In short stop picking on Microsoft. They are the embodiment of capitalism and they got where they are mostly out of pure good luck.
Hell, Bill has admitted hundreds of times that he was simply in the right place at the right time.
The easiest way to fix this...and it works for nearly every webserver... is to put a dummy index.htm file in every directory. It doesn't have to say anything important at all. It just has to prevent the server from displaying a directory listing
Hey dickweed...I was just saying that anyone who disses GNU on/. gets marked as a troll no matter what they say. I support Open Source...but I hate RMS and the FSF...they've done good things and I appreciate what they've done in the past...but ideologically i can not follow RMS
What's so bad about that? At least the money will be put to good use. Adequate amounts of computing equipment are hard to come by for many schools. Would you rather see this money go to some huge corporation like AOL, Apple, Corel, or Borland that needs money like a hole in the head? Or even worse the government? And let's be real...those computers are gonna use Microsoft software anyway...they might as well have Microsoft give it to them for free.
For real this time...just check the usual mirrors!
Learn to read you stupid jack ass!

Score 5? Interesting? Yeah...riiiight...
Gotta say I told you so...see previous post
Jini - what the fuck is it?
Java - compile once, run anywhere MY ASS!
NFS - oh fucking brilliant! can you say bug-of-the-month-club and slower than windows 98 on a 486
Solaris - ever try porting something(of reasonable size) to it? maximum breakage! compatibility MY ASS!
At least Microsoft can deliver some of it's promises...let's see win95...winXP...ie4...even if it always takes them a little longer
Ah, Slashdot, where there are two categories for everything - Microsoft and NOT Microsoft
Can CmdrTaco kiss my ASS?
Note:This will be modded as low as possible and parent will be modded WAY up
Offtopic...wtf - that was sooo Troll!!!!

But I didn't believe...
Not for a second...
That IRC was still used.
And all this time I thought it had went the way of the Gopher...
But it's on slashdot so it must be true!

Stallman is just a fringe figure who radicalizes and in general embarasses the OSS community in general.
DOWN WITH FREE SOFTWARE
UP WITH OPEN SOURCE
Ok you can mod me down now.
Just in a beowulf cluster operated by Cowboy Neal...of course you fucking idiot!
