If the UN were actually run well, as opposed to the debacle it is now, they might have a leg to stand on. They should clean up their own act first before trying to grab more power for themselves.

And that's completely beside the point anyway; the Internet it doing just fine without them now, thank you.

Actually, the latency issue is more of a "JVM and the particular phone that you're using" sort of problem. That's the implementations fault, not Java itself. The A500 from Samsung, for example, for all the rest of it's faults, doesn't have quite the latency problem that people using other handsets seem to see.

Correction, he rips J2ME a new one.

The problem with J2ME is that phone companies have been adding their "extras" onto the platform or worse, not making them fulling compliant. Samsung's major HTTP screwup on the A500 is a great example of that.

As for Java being slow... give me a damn break. It's running on a PHONE!

So of the rest of that article, particularly the "no memset" and " the inability to read resources into anything but a char array" so a complete lack of understanding.

As for investment accounts, the accounts are not forced. You have a choice about whether you want to invest in them or not. If you don't trust it, then don't have one created. Simple as that.

Personally, I'd like a system like Congress itself has, where they DO have private investment accounts. I'm sure that if more people knew about that, or better yet, we were able to take those AWAY from Congress, there would be a lot of screaming going on.

    From this article

Since the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl, there have been strident demands for a crackdown by a tougher, stricter Federal Communication Commission. The FCC's various commissioners now call for the power to regulate cable television, in addition to broadcast media. In June Congress voted to increase the maximum fine the FCC can impose tenfold, from $27,500 to $275,000. Commissioner Michael Copps has vowed that he will not be satisfied until "I see us send one or two . . . . cases for license revocation."

The thing is, if people think there's a big market for Linux games like Popcap makes, they should create a website like Popcaps and try it out. For all I know, someone's done it already.

Popcap's made their decision on this by doing this all via ActiveX though; they used to use Java, but since MS dropped their JVM (that's what Popcap said on their website), they only support ActiveX now. Damn shame.

They said on the website (either in the FAQ or in the forums) that they're not using Java because of MS's decision to not ship their JVM anymore. I guess they don't want anyone having to download anything additional just to play their games (beyond the game itself, of course).

Having to open your system to ActiveX controls that can sneak in via the browser is a pretty high price to pay just to play games.
