It's nontrivial but I really wish Blizzard would find a way to increase the concurrency on each server.
Agreed, and agreed again. It would suck specially if you are in a guild that "grew up" together. You have 100+ members and have your strategies down to a T. You do pretty well on endgame instances and battlegrounds. Then the servers become crowded and and blizzard offers to split servers. Half the people on the group will want to migrate, and the other half won't. And so the dynamics of the guild is screwed.
Like you said, incresing concurrency would be ideal, but I guess from a technical point of view it's probably much more difficult (I don't know how well their backend scales).
Seriously, if anything, the final chapters of HL2 left me with more curiosity about the combine. Those container rides were tantalizing. Who are they, what do they want? I'v been looking for sources of info since I finished the damn game and every piece I find serves only to stir my curiosity more.
The author's main complaint seems to be that everyone doesn't enjoyed playing games the same way he does.
You took the words out of my mouth.
It seems to me the reviewer is expecting too much of a simple game. If he doesn't enjoy playing in groups, maybe he should look into some other genre.
In any case, for his own sanity, he should stop playing for a while. I mean, why does he expect his warcraft skills to somewhow translate into real life? Wow is looking to "teach" you anything. It's just a freaking game. And the game mechanics are widely known, so why is he complaining as if it was some sort of "bait and switch" tactic.
Ya, you can run Apache, but with only 2 clients:-) on every version of Windows NT (4, 4.5 and 4.51) except server where the number of client is unlimited !
Are you joking? (the smiley throws me off). I don't think Windows non-server restrict the incoming TCP connections, else p2p clients/servers like bittorrent would have a harder time.
the stillness and solitude were the characteristics which really made MYST work for me.
I have to second that. I guess it was the voyeur in me, but I really enjoyed wandering around from age to age trying to piece the lives of those who inhabited it by looking at their surrounding and the objects they left behind.
Oddly enough, this is also one of the things I enjoyed the most in Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2. Thief also has a bit of it.
Yeah... that condition is called "genetic gullibility".;-)
Thank god the only family member I have online is my dad, and he is much too old school to fall for this easily. And by old school I mean he is the kind of man that will do all of his banking in person. If he were to get an email asking him to login and give personal/cc info, he would instead go to the bank the next day and ask for an explanation.
Still, I had "the talk" with him regarding virus/spam/phishing/patching and so forth.
As so many others have said, keep your personal data out of company servers. Otherwise, you are just asking for trouble.
If you want to provide some sort of internet service, even if it's just for yourself, keep in mind the risks asociated with it.
Example: if you run your own personal mail server it might be only a matter of time before some clown decides to spam your domain doing a dictionary attack, and while anti-spam techniques can be pretty effective in rejecting messages, your bandwidth/cpu will still be consumed.
If you would still like to keep control of your email, try a colo box, or a virtual server, or one of them spam filtering services (you point the mx to them and they forward the "clean" mail to you) or even a traditional mail server and "fetchmail" the mail into your own server.
Methinks literacy is not be the term you were looking for.
Literacy: n. The condition or quality of being literate, especially the ability to read and write.
They already read and write. That's pretty much what they've been doing in Wikipedia.;-)
Perhaps what they lacked is a bit of common sense. There are plenty of ways to "spin" an issue (such as the promise not to run for more than four terms) without a blatant denial of what happened and attempts to rewrite history. Plus, they should have known when to call it quits. There are some battles you just can't win, and thrashing around and making angry noises will only serve to attract more public to witness your defeat.
Actually, Imageshack expressly forbids using their service to host pornographic images. Tho I imagine that they are simply unable to police everything that's uploaded and olny check when somebody complains.
FARK Headline: [OBVIOUS] Congressman's staff corrects "sloppy writing" in his Wikipedia entry, like the part where it mentioned that he broke his promise not to serve more than four terms
I am willing to give Google the benefit of the doubt if they promise the following:
Ok, let's keep in mind a couple of things.
Google is not a goverment, it's a corporation. I don't think the PRC will take kindly to a corporation setting that kind of terms on them. Threats to cut off service to the country will probably be met with general laughter from the PRC's ministry in charge of that deal. Google does not provide a unique service and the PRC is aware of that. And so is everybody else.
The second point is kind of hard to enforce if Google intends to have physical assets within China.
As for the third point, PRC can declare that list classified in the interest of national security. Disclosure of that info might bring repercusions from the PRC.
I believe that it is Google the interested partner here which is why they want to comply. They have a lot to gain from doing business there. What's in it for China? Another search engine?

Try "Request Tracker" http://www.bestpractical.com/rt Easy to set up, scriptable, both web and email interface.
Or do a search on freshmeat for "ticket system" or something along the lines.
YAY! More Breen-casts!!

Lotsa info on Wikipedia. Anybody knows more?
And that's got to be the funniest pic I've seen this week.

Am I the only one that read the headline Razorback2 Servers Seized and tought, "well, at least pyzor is still alive".

Which is the same argument the RIAA/MPAA use to attack p2p and file sharers...
Not that I'm saying that you are a pirate. I'm just trying to start a good ol' fashioned flamewar.

To me, the main selling points will be the ability to run a game without having to be local admin
But is that up to the OS? Maybe the game designers should stop designing their games (and copy protection schemes) to require local admin priviledge.
Oh yeah, and the ability "chroot" or "jail" or "sandbox" a program would be nice.
Somewhat whiny, yet funny E2 writeup on the subject:
I will REMOVE the fucking toilet seat if you don't shut up
My guess would be: pride. That, and curiousity over anything GPL'd that the military had to give back.
Why would they give anything back? Are they going to re-distribute it?

Yes.

Two days ago, even. Link
According to the book The Black Box, the last words were "Uh oh".

oops, wrong forum.
Nope. What's that got to do with the subject at hand?
Really? what's the OpenBSD equivalent of Microsoft Visio? World of Warcraft (don't say nethack)?

Looks like infinium's web site went south, so I can't checkout the keyboard.
*Insert joke about it being hosted on a phantom gaming console here*
Ok, I had to bite...
google.com and google.cn show the exact same results for "Tianmen Square"
Maybe the censoring is not done at google.cn directly, but is done taking geolocation into account.
