No. They are doing it for the love of it. When it is done and they present to Arthur C. Clarke, I imagine it will far outweigh any consideration of credit or money.
The gist is, albums will always have a role to play in music, digital age or not, it's just singles will become the dominant form. Think of it this way: AC/DC, Bob Seger, etc, will always put albums worth buying but now you'll be saved from whole albums of Britney Spears and Ashlee Simpson.
I just ordered one of laptop from Dell, due in a week or so. I knew where to look and what to get. Then I did it as if I was Joe Clueless who heard about Ubuntu and wants to look at Dell and what they offer.
Take a look at the front page of Dell.com. What do you see? Lots of products but no mention of Ubuntu. Let's look at a laptop, I see many options. I look and pick one. The option for this Ubuntu thing must be here. I pick a laptop. I look. Comes with Windows Vista Home Edition. Huh? Maybe its under "Build yours". I try that.
I click a couple of options and see "Operating Systems" Maybe this is it? I click on it. It gives me a choice between Windows Vista Home and Home Premium.
What he doesn't realize that its back on the product page under "Essential Links"...Open Source PCs. Click on that and you get a choice between "Shop Ubuntu" or "Shop for FreeDos" which are under "Shop for Dell PCs with Windows"
I know that Dell Ubuntu products are aimed at tech enthusiasts and Open Source fans but if Dell hopes to be successful beyond a niche market they need to try a lot harder.
In a counter-move, H-P announced Tuesday that it will also be introducing new lower-price cartridges. But these new low-end cartridges will work only on future printers (and a few very recent models). And they will hold less ink than today's standard. Plus, they will still cost more than Kodak's cartridges: $14.99 for black and $17.99 for the combined color versions.
You nailed it. The political spectrum has been moving right but the social spectrum is moving left (gay marriage, medicinal pot, etc) and thus you have this tension, this sharp divide between red state and blue state.
The judge was correct about your taping the phone call but for the wrong reasons. You cannot record anyone without permission unless you have a court order. Playing that recording in Court was a BAD idea. You broke the law.
I tried a demo of UnixWare and it was just terrible. X11R5, not even R6, no drivers, outdated tools, and poor configuration options. It was painfully bad. That's why people don't buy it, its just a teriible Unix.
Wikipedia started off good then the powerful got so full of themselves as the project rose in prominence that they became corrupt, arrogant and out of touch. Admins protect their friends and make sure all appeals are squashed. Ever try to get an admin to account for his actions? If you are not banned, you will be soon after. I have seen it time and time again.
I once tried to become an admin but to rise up through the ranks you have to become a certain kind of person, a kind of narcissistic ass. I couldn't do it. I couldn't become that. There are a few nice admins out there but they are truly in the minority or leaving.
Wikipedia's glory days are done. We are now seeing the decline and fall of the empire.

No, you dont have to meet an author face to face when publishing a book. Lawrence Watt-Evans, an author friend of mine, met his editor for the first time last year after five years of dealing with him. This is not uncommon. Publishers know about telephones, email, etc.
Jimbo Wales has tools, his little minions who are trying hard to white wash history by making him the only founder of Wikipedia. Just try changing founder to co-foudner on his user page and watch them swarm all over your ass. He "suggests" and his little minions scurry as if doing a favor in Jimbo's eyes will make you more Powerful and Important.

Or better eyes. I dunno, I can't imagine running som ething at 1600x...I'd have to squint. Even 1280x makes my eyes work.
Wasn't this done with MS in Windows 98, the Active Desktop? See how well that worked? Why would anyone want this?

"What's a record store? Was there really time music could only be purchased in such places?"
Future Slashotting in the Waiting (FSW).
Look at this way: if something goes wrong with your MS PC they can't tell you to call XXX company you purchased it from in attempt to hide the blame.
...a great disturbance in the Force. As if millions of voices suddenly cried out, "The fuck?"
If you have evidence, show it. If it's infringing, it'll be removed. But you don't want to. You want to spread FUD to generate $$$.

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

Java only: snail speed
Java+DOS: Snail with ball and chain
Java+DOS on non x86: Snail nailed to the table
Thanks, I haven't heard that one in YEARS :)

Doesn't work that way. Apple's EULA states that Mac OS X can only be installed on an Apple branded Macintosh. No generic PC, no virtual machine.
