The thing is... pirates are not your customers, are a pool of people that may or may not buy your stuff, but your market is the people that buy games. This is obvious for a lot of people now, and for some of then, is a way to make a lot of money. Valve is swimming of money because understand this. Ubisoft is full of retards that can't understand this.
Videogames have not died. what has happened, is that nowdays much more people play videogames, and some of these people play things like FarmVille, that are more a addiction than a hobby. You still have a amazing rich variety of videogames, with styles from all eras and tastes. Even if you thing is Street Sweeper Simulators.
My problem is... if the title IS STUPID, sould I ignore the whole article? probably, if only to avoid feeding atention whores that must use alarmist and false claims in titles.
I doubt the people of australia want this type of laws. Probably hare bought by corportations. If that is true, the political system on australia need a huge change. The 1% has corrupted the system there too.
What GameStop seems to want, is to move his business to the digital world. Currently is a shop that sells box (that have a game inside), and want to sell bits... or more precisally, want to rent bits.
Do you want to play a Playstation 3 or Playstation 4 game in your tablet PC? GameStop want you to pay a flat flee of 10$ montly to play demos and some games. You will not own the games, you will be renting the games for a limited period.
This is like Blockbuster opening a service like Netflix. But for games.
Rule of cool: Playing a Playstation 4 game in a tablet pc will be cool. If the tech delivers.
Most secrets are boring, and only interesting to very few parties. Decent people already use encryption and assume any information on the network can be heard by a third party. It only takes a secretary to have a spyware to have this inside your office network.
A new programming language create a huge problem, before start solving anything. And its that you lose all the work done with libraries. Everything. A new language is like a natural disaster that wipe civilization to the caves again.
People is doing a lot of cool stuff with Javascript. JS is starting to becoming a decent enough language to write code for the web!. http://jquerysbestfriends.com/#slide1
Our eyes detect 'deltas' better than 'speeds', so if the odd numbered frames have a delay shorter than others, our eye will detect it. But this only affect setups with multiple GPU's. And is easy to fix. Just calculate the delta of the latest frame, and force the same delta, maybe use a buffer. This is not a problem once has ben detected, It may need some minor changes on engines, but thats all. IMHO.
Some people in Los Angeles have buy some games for 20$. This is because Amazon give discounts. Is all ok, but on the other side of the pacific, people play for the same game maybe 80$. Media in that part of the world are more expensive for not real reason. And I am talking about a digital download. I suppose the media cartel there can use higher prices, since physical good can be really more expensive, if are produced elsewhere and imported. But theres not good reason to apply that to bits. You can have a server in NZ and it will cost you more, but not all that much. The media cartel is overcharging NZ and aus guys by some orders of magnitude.
Another country that get cheap games is UK. You pay less, because traditionally the englishmen gamers are very picky about price and quality, and wait until a price is "fair". So USA pay less for games, UK pay less for games, and australia/nz that are also a english speaking country... pay way more.
Is even more rich, because Australia and USA have some trade agreements. So if you try to do this to a USA citizen, he could use the weight of his govern to screw you.
Combine that with a Internet that mostly suck. Digital citizens on that part of the world have a real problem. Digital enteirnament is way too expensive, Internet is slow and expensive. And now the MAFIAA make so abusive laws are approved. Well.. It has to suck to live in that part of the world:(
You talks about games implemented outside of a game that can be played inside. This is about (using your words) games implemented inside of the game, that can be played inside of the game. Or using my own words "hardware implemented inside the rules of a virtual universe".
Making a mod for a game in Lua or other is a nice thing. But implementing computers using the rules of phisic inside a game is a huge nerd achievement and really nerd-fun.
and who will want to buy a cell phone maker with the only future of making me too phones like HTC does
Moto's problem is that HTC flooded the market with similar phones that have very minor differences. HTC Inspire, desire hd, droid incredible 2, my touch 4g, evo, thunderbolt. they are all either the 82655 or the 86655 qualcomm CPU's which are almost exactly the same with the same GPU's. everything else is minor differences. Moto had too few phones in the market place or made too many models with too many differences
Well.. you post is absolutelly spot on.
It also show how patents, even of hardware, are useless stuff. Moto has not value whatsoever(to add to what the market already have), except the "I can sue you" thing.
Google can do a number of things, maybe change the company?, mobile computing is here to stay, is possible that Google is going to need a hardware company in the future,...why no start now?
Gave Newler has played 800 hours DOTA2. Some average WoW players have played the game for more than 365 *days*. I have played APB more than 400 hours, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 about 130 hours. I have about 80 hours in Fallout New Vegas, and maybe 40 hours in S.P.A.Z.
How much hours have the people still playing Diablo 2 or Counter-Strike? only god knows.
Gamers find time to enjoy his games. Games with terrible replayability get few hours. Games with high replayability (think Morrowind) or games with a fun multiplayer component are played 100+ hours.
There are not the real problem with implementing applications with HTML5+Javascript (Except maybe 4).
Most of the things this dude list are normal challenges of any program in any platform. So some photos uploaded with a plugin got deleted by facebook? thats the problem of any website hosting content, can be deleted by the owner of the website, how it was uploaded is not important (could as well be uploaded by a nice interface? thats better).
The REAL problem of HTML5+Javascript is Javascript. Writting small javascript task is something everyone can do. Writting big javascript apps is NOT for everyone. Javascript is not strongly typed, and his dynamic evaluation is HARD. Javascript uses some float number that has less precision than the one you get on most generic programming languages. Javascript flexibility to be written by billion different ways means code from programmer A can be totally different than code from programmer B.... there are only 1 javascript, but there are more than 4 or 6 ways to writte it, that are completelly different.
In short:
Writting a big program in Javascript is a NOT TRIVIAL task.
This is really THE hard truth about applications made by HTML5+Javascript.
Success is as much a product of concept, but as implementation, luck and be the right person on the right moment.
Work is about 40 times more important than the idea. Luck 10 times. And implementation 2 or 3 times. Since everyone has ideas, the expensive thing is hard work and luck. You can't really buy luck, so is preciuous.
Quick trading is nothing but speculation. I think there must be some cooldowns in place to slowdown things, so you can't buy at 3.88 then sell at 3.89 after 3 seconds ( or 0.0003 seconds).

Javascript need not promoting. Is the standard language to write on the web, you can't use anything else even if you want.
What you could do, is write Javascript with Lips, C++ or VB styles. It will still be Javascript, but it can look like C++ or C or VB if you want to.
Life for webmasters used to be miserable, back then, with IE6 and Netscape 4.61.
Node.js is awesome. :-OOOOOOOOO
Theres even something that work like apt-get to install new libraries and apps. Stuff like FilePad make me go

One dollar, one vote. These with more money have more votes. USA calls it democracy.
Lobbying is a type of corruption. It can be legal in USA, but is a type of corruption that is not legal everywhere.

Mr. Steve, thanks for all the years of hard work, and vision beyond the next quarter. You are a genius and has helped millions.
*hugs*
Have a happy retirement.

So we are here already? the name hacker has ben demonized, so if you admit you are a hacker, is like admiting you have commit crimes?
Society, I am dissapointed.
And what or who has installed IE9 to begin first? Whos so crazy to navigate internet with a IE explorer?

So now the whole phone network can be shutdown for comercial interest against workers protest?
I suppose that this "only emergencies mode" will not work.
What a nice society we are building.
One of the bases of democracy, is that we all are equal. Yes, even people that has steal a TV in a riot.
I think you are wrong.
The movie is about the start. These monkeys are supposed to grown on the forest, and grown to milllions, while the humans will suffer the epidemic.
The movie make a good work to show how monkeys are way more versatile and powerfull than humans, making humans feel idiotic and unadecuate.
The movie is very good at setting a start for a possible suppremacy of monks. But is sets maybe 4000 years before monkeys end the work :D
Don't count me there, please. I deleted my profile as soon his policis about anonymity where public.
