Looking like new version of that NES Powerglove, this device looks well crap. The whole half-baked idea of wireless/touchless input device is not new at all. Cant help but think the inventor took clues from 80's "Icon" Jean-Michel Jarre who played a stringless laser harp. He was pretentious prat if ever I saw one.....
Depends how you set up the car and how competant the driver is, I would suggest that someone who supercharges their civic would also have the nous to be able to handle a powerful . There is nothing wrong with understeer if you know how to prepare, execute and exit out of turns properly:)
Ever drive a 911 Turbo? Yes the 996 spec. But thats an AWD vehicle and contray to popular belief does not exhibit neutral handling characteristics. With a tendency to understeer (pushing) coming into a corner and oversteer (getting loose) coming out of it, AWD cars can often be very unpredictable.
I will be buying a new laptop come January and will probably buy another Dell. Indeed they seem to be the only manufacturer that offers these high performance chipsets. Well except for Toshiba I think.
When I used to program in Java, way back in 1997, I used to use the fabulous MS product called Notepad. After banging my head in frustration I was introduced to Symantec Visual Cafe. What a revelation!
A visual Java RAD tool that could create much of a program with drag and drop procedures, this saved so much time for me and created *nice* looking stuff. Its greatest strength at the time were the "interactions", you could create logic operations on form elements by just clicking away!
Since I stopped being a programmer I dont really know what happened to it, is it still knocking around??
Thing was though I happened to chance across MS Visual J++ and *cough* it was actually quite nice. Their Virtual Machine was rapid!!!
Who said English was my "mother tongue"?
Besides conversational language is not require to have correct grammar and indeed spelling:P
I can additionally converse just as badly in another four languages, how many can you?

I have been working in IT since 1997, yeah I know a mere blink of an eye for some Unix Wizards (ie. beards, strange clothing and their own arcane language). What I have noticed is that every year my handwriting has been getting progressively worse. What with my PDA, laptop, PCs etc. I just have no need to wield a pen no more:)
Apart from signing my name on credit card chits, the only time I am required to write is for birthday/Christmas and other assorted cards. Its getting so bad now that I start to write a long word and just give up. My once pristine handwriting now looks like a doctors prescription scrawl.
When I was studying engineering, I never understood why people folk tried to experiment with alternative forms of fuel such as wind, solar and my personal favourite biomass:)
Take out the benefit of them being limitless, and you are not left with a lot, possibly their only other strength is that a lot of these systems can be installed in remote places.
Their problem is that the technology behind them is so underveloped and so implementing any systems is not only initially very expensive, but also costly to maintain. For what you put in, you normally get *very* little out.
What always got me was that the amount of heat billowing out of the chimney tops of convential electrical power stations is tremendous. I have yet to see any country implement a widescale plan to harnass some of that power. It would be no trouble to redirect that steam and heat up more steam for the turbines, or to heat up water for local community. And of coure the wasted heat energy begs the question of just how much they power stations are in the first place.
Errr problem with this comparison of power between the two machines is that their architecture is completely different.
Just taking the MHz of the ARM CPUs is not really enough. Just to clarify, the GBA has a cpu@16.7MHz, but the IPaq cannot emulate GBA games properly as it does not feature:
X-Y/rotational/parallax scrolling.
Up to 4096 hardware sprites with scaling/distortion/rotation.
Hardware alpha blending/transparencies.
Even if you were to write *really* good code on the Ipaq, you would still have a heck of a time emulating all these purely in software.
And thats not forgetting the amazing RAM spec:
32KB work , 256K extended work, 96KB video, 16KB sound.
Impressive indeed:)
Gobe is seriously beautiful. I had the last version on BeOS and I found it tricky at first having come from a predominantly MS Office background. But when you get used to it then you realise how well designed the UI is, and how bad MS stuff is:)
It is also shocking to be reminded off how bad the Linux office productivity stuff is in comparison. Staroffice (5.2 at least) is shockingly bad, and Abiword just looks like MS Wordpad, though I do like GNUmeric. K-Office is nice but still feels unfinished.
But the most impressive thing about Gobe was its size. Or rather the lack of it. This program is just *so* slick and I will be getting a copy when its finished:)
I had similar reservations about NY, but I found San Francisco quite safe after dark. Maybe its because I have spent large amounts of time in Hong Kong, specifically Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, where there is *loads* of late night trouble:)
Although Brixton is somewhat safer than it used to be, I would still not call it a nice place to hang around in the evenings mind. I dont think that I have ever felt so threatened whilst clubbing at Fridge back in the day.
One of my friends had a real problem with surveillance cameras a few years back. We were still students in Birmingham and BBC's Watchdog was demonstrating how effective the city's new system was in tracking people around the streets. So they did a "test" and picked someone out of the crowd. Just so happens he was black, dressed like he was an extra from a rap video and wore lots of jewellery:) So you could understand how livid he was......
Agreed that the R32 is the best Skyline, well I think it looks better than all the other revisions anyway. Though I actually prefer GT-S's for straight line drag speed.
Why swap out the engine?? No need, with the right mods you can get 1000BHP out of it quite easily (though at great cost). The engine and gearbox has been the *same* for R32/R33/R34 and so really it has been proven to be basically bombproof.
The whole argument in this thread has been the engine technology, if you are gonna name a car, then why are you chucking out the engine?? Its like me saying that a Daihatsu Mira is the best car if I put in Subaru Boxer engine into it?:)
Jet Li is legendary only in how annoying he is. He is *never* beaten up in his films, does not kick well and is such a bad actor that he is dubbed in nearly all his films (Mandarin and Cantonese).
If there was any justice then Chiu Cheuk, star of "The Blade", would be making Li sized movies. He too is national champion in Wushu......
For a lot of Asians Jet Li is like Julia Roberts in that they get to star in big movies but are amazingly annoying. Li rarely gets hits in films and is as emotive as a plank of wood. His style is Wu-shu, indeed he was the National Champion in China, is good for movies as it is very showy (debuts as a demo sport in the next Olympics), but Li *cannot* kick! His hands are superb, but his footwork is terrible....
Iron Monkey is one of my favourite martial arts films of all time. In fact I have a laserdisc version from 1993:). The movie is spectacular because of the martial artists, the style showcased is Hung Gar Kung Fu and features some of his Yen's best work ever. Though I think Yu Rong Guang steals the show, he moves *so* well for a big man....
But for people looking to get into the genre, then try these movies:
Storm Riders - as close to a "living" comic book as you will ever see (stars Sonny Chiba!)
Bride with White Hair - Ronny Yu directs and Peter Pau (Oscar - CTHD) with perhaps his best cinematography ever.
Ashes of Time - Like Crouching Tiger, all Asian men want to be Kung Fu heroes, Wong Kar Wai (Chung King Express, In the Mood for Love) is no different. With action direction by Samo Hung (Martial Law:P), and cinematography by long time partner Christopher Doyle, the movie is a heart-breakingly beautiful series of stories all interwoven seemlessly. Stunning.
The Blade - Tsui Hark again (Iron Monkey), narrated through the eyes of a woman, this movie has the most deliriously violent and explosive examples of swordplay ever committed to film.
Zu: Warriors from Magic Mountain - Tsui Hark is remaking this one, soon to be released, the original had special effects crew who worked on Star Wars and this is where modern day HK wirework came from.
Yes I know that some of the "old skool" fighting films are great too, but I am recommending these for people who are getting into the genre. Else films like Dreadnaught, Prodigal Son, Drunken Master, Mars Villa, Venoms, and 36 Chambers would be here:)
But for me, the best martial arts movie of recent times is Ringo Lam's "Burning Paradise". Wong Fei Hung (Iron-Monkey) meets another legendary kung fu master, Fong Sai Yuk. This movie was directed by Lam who usually deals with serious dramas and so it is dark in tone and very violent. The sets, story, and production value are superb and the fighting (employing real monks!) has to be seen to be believed.
Haha, I sent my father on a little mission when he was in Hong Kong.....to buy me a HP48S. Resisting the temptation to cheat and fill up the machine with all manner of eqautions, I went to my A-Level Maths exam.
Inevitable happened, I got stuck on some really tough questions. I cannot believe how much guilt I had to endure as I watched that little marvel integrate some horrendous algebra graphically for me:)
Thanks HP, I would not be who I am today without you. A dirty little cheat who can't do calculus.
No you cant compare an end product, but what you can compare is the licencing of the chipset:)
A/V manufacturers (mainly Matsushita) tried, as before to integrate the gaming chipset into a domestic consumer device. In the 90s it was the Asian versions of Laser Disc and VCD players. But now they are trying again but with the DVD player:)
Sega actually planned on releasing a DC on a PCI card! Not sure if one every came out, but there was talk that they would licence the chipset to third parties too:)
Trip Hawkins' 3DO, which I still believe was *way* ahead of its time, operated on a similar idea. In the early 90s Trip (Electronic Arts) got together a load of money from companies such as Matsushita, MCA, and Time Warner (pre AOL days). They designed what was not really a console or a device but a chipset that would be licenced to third parties. There was many high hopes for this machine, gaming, movies and *gasp* the ability to connect to cable!!
Anyway, end of the day the machine stank and the only people who ever made a consumer class device was Matsushita and a handful of Korean companies.
My opinion, its not down to an ability to produce hardware or to reduce liability, but an attempt to increase market share through other sales channels. Traditionally Nintendo has sold its hardware at a loss in order to get market share. Its the software where it makes its money. If it can sell its modern day "3DO', then good for them. Let others lose cash and let Nintendo pocket all the monies *kerching*
Nintendo are a smart company, they know the value of "starving" supply. Look at them every year. Their marketing savvy creates frenzy at Christmas time (Pokemon? Color Gameboy?), and they always claim to not produce enough to meet demand. Result?? Prices soar, parents get angry, kids cry, shops place orders like crazy......
I admit it, I am a bad person.
When I used to work in a really large company as 2/3rd-line support, I used to *take revenge* for my colleagues, especially helpdesk.
When a user was being a real nasty shit to someone, me and a mate used to torture them by making their machine seem *alive*. Favourite tricks were....
a) attaching a "squeek" sample to every key stroke
b) remotely operating their machine, ie move their mouse, pop open their disk trays, write words whens they weren't looking
c) move their files and put them back when we felt they deserved enough punishment
d) suddenly Tile or better yet, Minimise all their Windows....
Ice was talking about cost *reduction* and in the grand scheme of things yes, a Radeon is a good deal cheaper for a similar experience. Hemos states that the main games to be played are Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate II:Throne of Bhaal, and The Sims. Radeon may not be as fast but it is fast enough for modern day PC gaming.
Besides the ATi solution has many advantages over Nvidia. Apart from Matrox, ATi gear always has had the best picture quality and so his type of gaming will look far better. Also ATi has the best DVD capabilities out of the lot:)
Personally though I would have bought a Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti200, overclock it and under most benchmarks it whips the original GF3 for less money.
As for the soundcard, well IMHO there is no justification over the original Live! card. Unless you are *seriously* into gaming then the low CPU overhead that the new card helps with, is not really a factor. Buy an OEM Live! or better yet a Videlogic Sonic Fury.
I was asking the very same question a few days ago (the thread about cooling fans). Thing about Dynamat is that I found it was not very easy to apply, also it tended to become very brittle and stiff over time (ie. flakes off).
The best product I ever came across was Brown Bread (http://www.b-quiet.com/brownbread.html). Not only was it inexpensive, but it was flexible, light, stuck like mad but it also did the job amazingly well.
A poster recommend cork matting from a hardware store.....although I can believe it works, I am not sure how hot it would get in there:)
500W+ RMS??? Now you are talking:) I used to work for a company that's show car was a fully kitted out McIntosh system running an aperiodic membrane in the back. And yes, contrary to popular opinion it *could* go boom!

Hmmm interesting to see that Nvidia have updated their GeForce2Go. What I am more surprised is how little attention ATi's Mobility Radeon has had.

From what I can gather ATi had not already kicked Nvidia's teeth in already but NV17M only *just* matches its performance!
