This shouldn't be news. IBM has been laying off older workers for a while now. My dad was a senior DBA in his group and was used as a model for some of the DB/2 certifications, but was released by IBM due to age. He never had any performance issues and was well liked. As a further blow, IBM laid him off a few days before Christmas. Thankfully he found another job quickly, but not until the new year and a very stressful holiday for the family. Any IBMer approaching middle age should worry about their longevity with the company.
Trade paperbacks are the way to start. In terms of Sci-fi: Ex Machina, and Y-The Last Man are two I really enjoyed. Fables is another good series to dive into but isn't sci-fi. The nice thing about TPBs is you can pick them up relatively cheap, and if you don't like the story, no need to grab the next one.
That's true, but you could have a flight attendant stationed near the rear of the plane who monitors and helps people putting up bags so they don't get too crazy. There's always one up front that is doing nothing more than greeting people boarding.
I've never figured out why flights with assigned seats don't load back to front to speed things up. Those seated would have fewer people banging into them as they walk past and the aisles wouldn't be such a jumbled mess of waiting on people in front of you. The downside is that the first class might have less chance to cram their bags into all spaces they can, but I'll let them sacrifice for me.
I am sure that Apple will come up with some app to warn you as you approach a wall. That would be much simpler than just asking your employees to put away the phones and keep their eyes on the path when walking.
I am looking forward to Clippy offering suggestions on how to better word experiences. "I see that you worked at McDonald's. Why not go by the title 'Burger Engineer'?"
I can see it now, next year's show will be filled with companies eager to show off this new product called a flashlight, where you can carry the light of the sun around in your hand where ever you go. It will be bigger than plastic!
My mother is legally blind and has been unable to drive for years now. She's 65 and can't really navigate the Uber process on a smartphone (especially due to low-vision). My dad currently has to take off work to shuttle her to doctor appointments. I'm sure they aren't alone in this predicament and SDC will be a godsend for those with such disabilities to be able to get out of the house and carry out normal daily functions.
Even for able-bodied individuals, it will be great to gain back driving time as productive or relaxing time where you can read a book, prepare for the morning's meetings, or just nap as the car moves you along. I can't wait for this to go mainstream.
I am curious if this effect is limited to ibuprofen or if other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Aleve (naproxen) or ketoprofen affect male reproduction as well. I'm sure there will be additional studies, but if these effects are repeated, they will likely be discontinued given they already have the propensity for stomach ulcers and other side effects.
The more resources that can educate and bring people into the fold the better! The Linux/FOSS community can be intimidating for the first time user so well written articles can help make the leap less painful.
No more Counterstrike for Julian!

I'd add Y-The Last Man and Ex Machina as good scf-fi series, and Fables as a good overall series.

Maybe I can use this article to convince my fiance to get rid of all our plugin air-fresheners! They always seem to cause me to sneeze.
I would probably be more scared if I could comprehend what I just read.

So this is the car equivalent of the Jitterbug phone where its functions are dumbed down for the elderly. I kid...I kid...
