The best way to fight spam is do what IM systems has been doing, by whitelisting. So, 1st email triggers a white list query, and the rest wil be invisible... May be do this on a per ip or per domain basis...
code contributions are usually only accepted if the contributor agrees to let the company do whatever they want with the code. This is standard procedure in the OSS world. There is nothing complex about it. the Linux Kernel is an exception to this rule, which is why it is stuck at gpl v2 even if Linus wanted to make it gpl v3. There was a big discussion of this when gpl v3 was being drafted.
Your hospital must be big enough to have active directory and exchange. Exchange is iphone compatible! If your IT refuses to set up exchange for iphone, tell your boss to hire a new CIO. This is not how your IT department should be working. p.s. I am the head of IT of radonc, I feel your pain.
CIA need to provide the public some awesome free service and then people won't mind giving up data for analysis. It worked for Google. If their product is foreign intelligence.. may be some service for the public regarding that?
Windows 2008's advanced firewall setting is now easier to use than iptables through webmin. I can finally configure an internet facing server securely!
Didn't McColo just successfully migrated a complete world wide grid within 12hours? May be these researchers should just contract the project out to them.
"throw out the old "files and folders" metaphor and leap to something new" - sounds like WinFS? "They import a picture into F-spot and then have no idea how to attach it to an email." - picasa? "single-file version control system" - Shadow Copy "We need a consistent experience" - Windows, OS X
"it would be phenomenal if free software were leading the way"? - I don't see any new ideas here that hasn't been implemented before.
Unless they can come up with a better ad than HP's, I don't see how people are going to spend money on this. At that price range, people are looking at value. A smaller screen is not a better value.
Actually, with GPLv3, there is now legal requirements for using it. That is, if you modify GPLv3 code and use it, but not distribute it, you are still legally obligated to made the modification public. That is the main reason why Linux is against v3.
You just summrized why I hate Linux even though I use it. #3 gets changed often because comments are clarified, which means this rpmsave thing happens very very often. Since the package manager has access to all three files, it should have migrated the old settings over instead.
The actual events will require both Silverlight and Vista.
Stop spreading the FUD, it may use Silverlight, but Vista is not a requirement. Silverlight 2.0 is even available for the Mac at http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
You should look at what the majority of the developers are using to make this decision. If you are a Microsoft shop, and cost is not a huge issue, the combination of VS 2008,.Net 2 or 3, and C# and VB.net will fill your need and just can't be beat in terms of getting large teams to work together. Plus, you can always add php via VS.PHP. Unfortunatly, if you are using php, or something else, your choices are going to be all over the place for IDE and framework.
So you are saying that even with Intel's open sourced i915 driver, the performance still suck, despite there are kernel developers who have too much time on their hands (because they want to write your driver for free!). If I was Nvidia, I wouldn't want to make my driver open sourced either. It called too many cooks in the kitchen.:)
Is there an example of an open source driver that doesn't suck? Even the radeonhd driver which ATI sponsored with Novell still sucks. Perhaps a successful example of better drivers from going open source will convince them instead of a bunch of names on a website?

I'll sell you one for a cool $1million. :D

tl;dr And who reviews a tech book that's more than half a year old? Drupal 7 is about to be released.
The british post system sucks.
Laser etched logos on the laptop. That why there's no label, no glue crud, and you won't have to spend 20 mins taking it off! :D

How long before Open Office copy the ribbon interface?
ripped the bandage off the scab
Eh.. that is usually a bad thing to do.

Welcome to contract law. If you sign a contract that says you are not going to do something, you better not do it unless you just want an ass raping.

a parallel language has already been readied for a while. It's called F#. See http://research.microsoft.com/fsharp/fsharp.aspx

Hey, $120 is the new $100! With the way the economy is going, it'll only take a few days for this laptop to be a sub-$50 laptop!

What printers are you using? In a normal win2k3 environment, you install the driver on the server so it automatically distributes to clients.
