The same thing happens for "mailto:e-mail@address.com" code in html pages. It opens Outlook Express despite having set my default to thunderbird and disabling access to Outlook.
I am not commenting on the content of your entry, but on your use of the term, "begs the question." "Begging the question" is used in cases of circular reasoning when you "[t]ake for granted or assume the truth of the very thing being questioned." It is incorectly used in your case where you state that another choice, other than riding Segways, is a more practical and obviuos mode of transportation.
...that is very imformative and it personally applies to me. I have been a Windows a user ever since 3.11 for Workgroups and now I currently use XP. I have recently installed Red Hat 8.0 as a dual boot on my laptop. But what made me choose this? I was unable to make any informed decision on choosing my flavor of linux, instead it came down to the brand name. The same goes for the GUI.
...resonance frequency.
By sending small bursts of packets at just the right frequency, the attacker can cause all TCP flows sharing a bottleneck link to simultaneously stop indefinitely.
Umm...I didn't read people's posts, but what about the fact that Mac and Linux make up only a small percentage of the OS used today? Who would want to create worms with a target of ~5% of computer users?
Looks like Airbus' product line beat Boeing's in terms of their different strategies. Boeing was going for small and fast while Airbus was going for big and luxurious. What I'm wondering is if this is a turning point for the leader in aviation...
If the counterfeits are not the critic's preview dvd (or whatever they are), then obviously the quality will not be very good. If people want to buy (to-bo) blockbuster movies at that quality and watch it that way then that's fine with me, but I prefer to watch a movie like the LOFR on the big screen. That's great, that the people who buy the counterfeit dvds, will know what happens, but what's the point. Movies are meant for entertainment, you don't want to watch low quality crap. Buying the counterfeit at that quality only allows you know know the substance of the movie, but in that case, why not just get the book.
I own a Palm V. I bought it 5-6 years ago, haven't used it much until recently. I replaced my college planner with my PDA. It's a hassle to write in grafitti since it's not always accurate and obviously it's not as dynamic as paper. My cell phone is more useful as a phone book than my PDA since it can make calls directly. It isn't that useful for me. I do have snake on it though and occasionally play that. I think PDA/cell phone integration will be more successful than a standalone PDA if a phone PDA is as good as a standalone PDA.
I would not like to see a Star Wars animated series. One of the appealing aspects of Star Wars is that it is something we take semi-seriously. When you watch a Star Wars movie, you are indulged in the world and it's physics and rules seem to be second-reality. If they create an animated series with slapdash plots and create superficial characters, it destroys the sense of a real Star Wars universe that George Lucas and his movies try to create. The extensions of the Star Wars universe thusfar have taken the Star Wars universe seriouesly, e.g. the independently written Star Wars books are rich in detail and try to remain undeviated from George Lucas' universe. These authors go through extensive research to write one of these books that carefully expands the Star Wars realm. I do not think that an animated series will continue this precedent. Instead, it will, with a simple stroke, destroy all that has been created.
Wow, I'm a UCI student and I never would have thought of posting this news. I did read the resnet page and was aware that UCI gave P2P lower priority than other usages, but I didn't think it was news. So far in my attempts to download using kazaa lite have been unsuccessful. I have never even gotten a transfer to initiate.

Here's the behemoth's tactic:
Create crappy and buggy software and sell it.
Distribute a service pack that makes their anti-piracy technology more strigent.
This causes consumers to be stuck between a rock and a hard spot; if they don't upgrade their software becomes out-of-date and prone to crashes and hacks, or if they do upgrade, they give in to Microsoft's monopoly and have to go along with whatever MS cooks up.

I've seen this phrase a couple of times on /., but I'm not sure entirely what it means. Can someone provide a link or a concise explanation if no link?
