    There are almost a billion Americans in the world, and three hundred million citizens of the USA, including Florida Man. Trying to understand them all as a single entity is guaranteed to cause head explody, to use the medical term for it.

    No, they don't realize they are being fleeced.

    Phones are sold that way because they have always been sold that way, or at least for as long as the people the other two descriptions apply to can remember.

    Trying to apply this business model to another market with an existing sales model will fail. Look at attempts to push "free" home computers tied to costly Internet access subscriptions or notebooks locked into data plans for examples of this.

    The reason that the first two questions seem so complex is that the answers don't apply to everybody. Some people do realize that paying $40 a month for three years is not the same as getting something for free, but they are the outliers. They can, if they dig around enough, find alternatives which save them some money but these mostly involve leaving the big telecom players, who don't want cheapskates as customers anyway, so that problem really just solves itself.

    Maybe I'm missing something here, but wouldn't having a "smart" gun as described in TFS be a win/win for everyone? Gun owners can use their guns, but it someone steals it or disarms the gun owner, the gun is useless. Not sure why folks are complaining. Anyone want to enlighten me?

    Because the evil gub'mint could also render the gun useless with their special Freedom-Destroying-Rays, and then force everyone to drink tea and other evil things.

    Really, you need to learn how to think like an American to understand them.

    Right now, Obama is meeting with leaders in Asia to finalize the secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

    The TPP threatens to censor your Internet, kill jobs, undermine environmental safeguards, and remove your democratic rights.

    That's the first two sentences on the first link - what part are you having trouble understanding?

    It will also give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number. It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank. It will drink all your beer and leave its socks out on the coffee table when there's company coming over. It will put a dead kitten in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

    It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it. It will kick your dog. It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice! It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

    Highways could be designed without fancy on/off loops, but just as raised, 4-way intersections with each vehicle's computer timing speed so that two highways can cross without stopping.

    Getting back to point, had the guy not been carrying 30 lbs of marijuana, it's likely he would have been sent on his way with a warning and there would be no story or no problem. Claiming this is a constitutional issue is quite a stretch and the four dissenting judges should be reminded of what their purpose actually is.

    So you won't mind if the police just drop by your home tonight and have a little look around, right? After all, if you have nothing to hide you have no need of constitutional rights.

    OpenWRT developer Felix Fietkau has something different to say:

    "Quick update on this subject: Linksys has now posted a GPL source for the WRT1900AC, and it contains the wifi driver sources. It appears to me, that this driver was properly licensed under GPL, with proper license headers in all source files."

    Of course, this is Linksys code so...

    As I anticipated, the code quality of the driver source code is abysmal. This looks like rewrite (not cleanup) material, ugly enough to cause eye cancer or frighten small children ;)

    The issue here isn't that there is no wireless support, just that it's of codethulhu quality.
