Don't get me wrong. RFID tags are, on the whole, a useful development and a compelling technology. They permit retailers to slim inventory levels and reduce theft, which one industry group estimates at $50 billion a year. With RFID tags providing economic efficiencies for businesses, consumers likely will end up with more choices and lower prices. Besides, wouldn't it be handy to grab a few items from store shelves and simply walk out, with the purchase automatically debited from your (hopefully secure) RFID'd credit card?
Since when did the businesses lowered prices because of efficieny increased? I think only their profit margin will increase. It must be more cost effective to deal with a few disturbed customers than to tolarate shoplifting.

I am sorry maybe I used the wrong word. Let me tell you about an incident: US is asking Turkey to open its land and bases and stuff for an operation in Iraq. Now, some innocent people will undoubtly get killed in this war, what is the price of life of an innocent person? How do you pay that. My impression is that it means nothing to the US government, since those people are not Americans. OK maybe this is not arrogance, what would you call it?
I am not judging the whole nation by a few idiots. e.g. I certainly appreciate the Americans that go to Iraq to become a human shield. But there is something that can be called `American arrogance' there is a definite disrespect for human life if that human is not American, among your society. Think of the people American government holding in Cuba right now. Could they do this to American citizens? What is the difference? American citizens deserve rightful trial but others don't? Again, I ask you, what would you call it?

I just would like to quote from a classic, "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo:
One day he heard a criminal case, which was in preparation and on the point of trial, discussed in a drawing-room. A wretched man, being at the end of his resources, had coined counterfeit money, out of love for a woman, and for the child which he had had by her. Counterfeiting was still punishable with death at that epoch. The woman had been arrested in the act of passing the first false piece made by the man. She was held, but there were no proofs except against her. She alone could accuse her lover, and destroy him by her confession. She denied; they insisted. She persisted in her denial. Thereupon an idea occurred to the attorney for the crown. He invented an infidelity on the part of the lover, and succeeded, by means of fragments of letters cunningly presented, in persuading the unfortunate woman that she had a rival, and that the man was deceiving her. Thereupon, exasperated by jealousy, she denounced her lover, confessed all, proved all.
The man was ruined. He was shortly to be tried at Aix with his accomplice. They were relating the matter, and each one was expressing enthusiasm over the cleverness of the magistrate. By bringing jealousy into play, he had caused the truth to burst forth in wrath, he had educed the justice of revenge. The Bishop listened to all this in silence. When they had finished, he inquired,--
"Where are this man and woman to be tried?"
    "At the Court of Assizes."
He went on, "And where will the advocate of the crown be tried?"

There are many things wrong with this approach.

First, it is impossible to go through databases without risking damaging somebody's piravicy. Second, it is very hard if not impossible to catch up with the expansion of information available electronically. Third, and maybe most important, this doesn't solve the problem.

The solution to terorism is not hunting terorists down. It should be done of course, but more resources should be allocated to remove the fundamental reasons why people become terorists, why they become pawns of other people. You cannot get rid of malaria just by vaccinating people, you have to dry the swamp. But, again, of course, vaccination should continue in the meanwhile. I just don't think it logical not to spend any resources on swamp drying, while so much money goes to smart bombs etc.
