OK, then. How about double-clicking the.deb or.rpm file and installing it that way. Since you don't need to click "next, next, next..." it's easier than the Window's method.
"Ridiculous" is not an argument. It's verbal diarrhea. "I disagree" adds nothing more to the conversation than "ridiculous," either.
I rememeber when I got my first computer, I turned it on to see C:\>. It was useless to me without apps that I could use (I was also introduced to warez that day).
I remember when I got my first computer. I turned it on to see a prompt (it wasn't C:\> but I don't remember what it was). I got out my monthly magazine and started typing in programs from the back.
On a more serious note, the Linux Standards Base covers the file system, Freedesktop.org creates specs for menus, icons, inter-process communication, and many other things, the Gnome HIG makes all Gnome apps conform to a standard method of operation, and apt/yum make installation seamless.
I doubt you use Linux the way it's intended to be used, You can't just jump from Windows and try to make another operating system look/work like it.
True, the radeon driver has 3D, but the nv driver is 2D only. Hopefully, the new radeonhd created from ATI's released specs becomes viable soon. If that happens, I won't buy anything but ATI for a few years after that.
I've done machine code which didn't have any source to build from. Back in the early 80's, writing assembly and machine code really weren't that different and neither was more difficult than the other. I suspect that machine code is significantly more complex for the AMD64 than it used to be for the Z80.
Nothing's wrong with Ekiga except the VOIP equivalent of the MSN vs. Jabber battle. If all your frineds are on MSN or Skype, then you'll be using that protocol. Skype doesn't have any third-party clients, so that means the Skype closed-source client.
I don't personally use it, though. I don't even LIKE talking on the phone.
The protests are mostly fueled by the media here (the same media that said Americans would retaliate violently against Koreans living in America and use trade sanctions against the country after the Virginia Tech shootings). There is so much disinformation about the agreement that most people think the opposite of what's happening (e.g. the agreement is for cattle under 30 months while the Korean press says that the U.S. is going to ship old, dangerous cattle it doesn't want for itself to Korea).
The safety issues are real, but Korea allows Australian beef and wants to block U.S. beef even though Australia has had five incidents of BSE and the U.S. has had two. My co-worker told me that NZ beef was OK because there was more grass in NZ than in the U.S. O_o I honestly believe it's really all about the beef market in Korea and keeping the prices up.
This is all off-topic. More on point, Korea is the most nationalistic country I've ever been to. I'm surprised they haven't gotten nationalistic WRT operating systems yet.
I live in Korea, where every computer runs Windows, no matter how minimal the need. POS terminal in large supermarkets, airport arrival/departure information screens, ATMs, monitors which loop the same video in full-screen all day, every day.
Korea spends a lot of its time being nationalistic (just look at the anti-U.S. mad cow demonstrations happening now), yet they send I-don't-know-how-many-billions of dollars to the U.S. for Windows XP every year. My Samsung hard drives even used to come with an OEM version of XP.
I'm really confused. If you're not about finding the URL, then what are you on about? If you want the content locally, you can just wait for the video to load. then drag it from your/tmp folder to wherever you want it.
Because the study of SLA in appplied linguistics has determined that it is. There is research spanning over forty years on the subject. The model for language acquisition isn't well determined, but it is known what doesn't work, and G-T is in the "doesn't work" column.
As I said, I don't have any in my village, but there are always a couple with a login proxy when I use my laptop in Daegu or other metro areas. Can't remember the names right now, though. Apologies.
People who need Office will continue to use it, unless they can be guaranteed some sort of document compatibility with open source solutions, which isn't perfect in OOo, despite what some might believe.
Since MS just released all the specs for the MS Office formats, that may be available soon.
I still like the idea of virtualizing XP. Identify systems which use the old installer, use a virtual machine which is included in the Windows 7/8 install. Make every app installation a different snapshot off of a base XP install and mount the user directory from the native environment.

frothy pee wee
I don't think that's what was said. I bet (but don't know) that the use of WoW software is not covered by payments, but that access to the server is.
The argument above was probably only a logical exercise designed to slowly strangle MDY's lawyer.
So people can stop saying "EULAs have never been held up in court?"
... there are some questions whether or not very large scale infrastructures should immediately jump on the new release...
I feel vindicated.

Hey. I'm having strange traffic from my DHCP server during non-use periods. Does anyone know why this would be? Se attached information.
Then the developers get involved and look for why.
And somehow you think this patch you submit would get through code review to be accepted into the trunk? Not likely.
Must be a misunderstanding of mine, then. Don't remember where I read it.
Except that the grassland used specifically for grazing in theU.S. is 8.5 times the size of NZ.

Torrent/Jigdo the current package list AND the packages. The tracker would be on a trusted server.
Funny that the one-paragraph "article" says nothing about the direction Gnome will go, especially about moving toward KDE's concept.
I was hoping for some real info. I'll have to wait for the Gnome 3.0 wiki to be updated.
I think that's actually most of the business model that RMS had in mind when he started the GPL. Get paid for your work once, then set the code free.

I'm not getting you.

You don't understand the difference between acquired and learned language, which is why you think that my assertion is wrong.
Is this you area of expertise, or are you just guessing? If you're guessing, you should read up. If it's your area of expertise, you should retire.
