  1. One more reason to pirate content on Vizio Wants Next-Generation Smart TVs To Target Ads To Households (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

So I pay Netflix et al for premium content with no commercials and the "smart" TV then injects it's own? When my kids ask me to get a new movie I wait until it is released on B-Ray and then bittorrent it into my networked kodi install. I know 100% what is on my system and that it is safe for my kids to watch. I will quit pirating when my children quit being the product. Until then I feel no guilt or shame in preventing the brainwashing and exploitation of my family. Greedy bastards be damned! I love my older LG television BECAUSE it is dumb as brick.

  2. How long until it uninstalls Firefox on Windows 10 Could Automatically Uninstall Buggy Windows Updates (windowslatest.com) · · Score: 1

Doing this automatically is exactly how Microsoft could remove it's competitors products. I foresee a time when "buggy patches" changes to "shit we don't like".

  3. What is so confusing? on New Study Shows Windows 10 Home Edition Users Are Baffled By Updates (zdnet.com) · · Score: 1

I have no problem with updates. sudo apt update && apt upgrade -y If I want to have a closer look at everything then I remove the -y and if I am lazy and don't run the command, my computer will do it for me - because I told it to that if I am lazy. In many years that command has not worked for me twice and both were shitty nvidia driver issues. Windows makes a cute vm if you like to poke a stick at monkeys in a cage but I don't want Candy Crush Soda installed against my will every time my computer "updates". FFS people, there are alternatives. How can you expect a greedy and ruthless company to act in any other interest than it's own. 2019 - Year of the Linux desktop!

  4. We're in Good Hands on Insurance Giant Allstate Buys Independent Phone Repair Company, Joins Right To Repair Movement (vice.com) · · Score: 5, Interesting

You can be sure that Allstate has a crapton of lawyers on salary and they almost certainly have a plan for getting the Right to Repair through or they wouldn't have made this play. I see this as the biggest win yet for RTR!

  5. Linux ignored again on Firefox Reviewed in the Globe and Mail · · Score: 1

Not a bad article, however, Firefox runs on many platforms including linux and *bsd. Sadly these are not mentioned.

  6. M$ is good for business on Crackers Tune In to Windows Media Player · · Score: 1

As an IT professional, I must commend M$ for another job well done. I have billed 6 hours this week (@$80/hr) fixing XP machines that were compromised via WMP. This is for 3 clients in a small town. What do you suppose this "feature" will cost consumers in the end.

Myself, I use linux on all of my desktops, OpenBSD on my servers and WinXP Tablet on my mobile "repair kit" laptop. The only thing I use the laptop for is backing up customer data before formating and reinstalling a fubared Windozer workstation.

While I promote open source software to my users, I would be out of work if Windows wasn't the standard.

    You will be assimilated...

  7. M$ won't change but the people will on Another Serious MSIE Hole · · Score: 1

I find it humorous that so many people get into a flame-off over something so basic as a browser. There is only one thing that M$ cares about and that is $$ - Quit buying crap software and the people making it will either change or become executivis obsoletus. Mozilla makes IE look like the second rate crap it really is...
