Very interesting comment and a good point regarding defense lawyers. But since you've read the proceedings, can you elaborate on what judges understood that lawyers didn't and what slashdotters don't get when mixing copyright laws and technological awareness?

I'm not trying to poke, I didn't fully understand your point and I'm interested because I wrongly assume as most of people here that indeed lawmakers, judges and lawyers don't know or understand much in those fields. I come from a country where lawmakers just voted an anti-P2P law without even knowing what P2P stands for (and what Peer means) and some didn't even read the law itself so I have a bad example of it...

Usually the know-it-all (a.k.a. "primadona") won't fit in a professional team, not because of its IT skills but his lack of social skills. A good team needs people with those 2 skills. It's much easier to improve someone's IT skills than his social skills...making the know-it-all a disruption for the business rather than an addition.

I am loosing my legendary politeness and can only say Fuck you, you sucker, and give me a fucking break

Creating good music is difficult but is free as in beer (you need a brain, usually ears, maybe hands)

Where it gets expensive is when you need to record at a decent quality level.

Where it gets VERY expensive, it's when you need to purchase advertisement, produce 10 million albums of shit, add the fireworks to your show with huge screens that show...unrelated stuff usually..., or pay MTV to broadcast you,

All the above cost has about nothing to do with making music. It's called producing a show. It could well be a contest of pinguin hookers boob size, it wouldn't even make the difference.

I will second that with my own experience:

My dad sadly died of a brain tumor last may, after 2 years of a long illness.

Because we didn't have insurance in the USA, we paid about 15K$ for 3 days of doctor visits and such (the amount is huge, but Boston has the best specialists in that particular matter) that was paid by my dad's (french) boss. The only thing the doctors did was confirming a recommandation from a doctor in France.

Back in France, during his last 2 years of life, my dad didn't pay a euro - including but not limited to:

    • Expensive/state of the art Chemiotherapy.
    • Specialized Taxi to go to the hospital.
    • Nurse at home.
    • Medication - you-wont-believe-how-much-cancer-drugs-cost!

I can't start to add up how much it would have cost us by staying in Boston. We probably would not have been able to afford more than a month of treatment. In contrast, French health care provided us with 2 years of life of my dad.

Given this, I honestly don't understand WHY there is still a debate in the US about health care. Honestly, the right-wingers who think Obama is deranged and national health care is evil should be pulled away from the gene pool. They're not thinking straight and show no compassion to their human siblings. It's just a terrible shame.

The fact that it is you who are responsible for the damage is actually arguable:

    • Nowhere in the documentation is it said that you should not flip the box while it is operating.
    • 99% of DVD readers can be flipped during operation: laptops, portable players, etc. all can be moved while the DVD is being read, so one is entitled to assume that yet another DVD reader should behave the same. But the almighty Box from M$ does not behave like any other consumer DVD product.

To me it's not a customer error, it's a defective product OR an incomplete documentation.

It is true, I hate Vista. I hate it, you hate it, everyone hates it.

In all honesty, Windows 7 is really a big step forward. You should try it before dumping it just because you had a miserable experience with Vista. Hands-on experience is much better than what you may "believe". Beliefs have no room in the IT world if you really want to be 'professional'. Actually, beliefs is what make people not move forward with technology. It's counter-innovative.

And Windows 7 is really impressive and easy to use/configure...I was in mental pain for Ubuntu when I started playing with it....It definitely has a much better usability.
