    Actually, Matrix the movie is only a illustration of one of the greatest games, Corewars

    Incase someone doesn't know what corewars is: you write your warrior in assembler, and see how well it fights against others.
    Someday, one of you will add a fancy graphics layer above the corewars, and we will see the fight illustrated as in Street Fighter - or Matrix.

    So, why don't they just ship the sources and not the fancy Matrix reloaded movie :) , I bet Neo can be written in 100 lines of redcode assembler :)

    Ofcourse they try to do precautions for everything they can think of. Many of you must have some experience on IT risk management, and you know the calculus - if avoidable mass destruction is on other side, then a few million dollars on other side is not bad risk management.

    ... about the only real case in which I can see a reason to allow linking from some certain URL, is when the user has to say "Ok Dad, I am already 18 and have the right to access the pr0n you offer" or "Ok, I have read your stupid license rant and pretend to follow it."

    In such a situation the solution is to pass an ever-changing secret from the linker to the linked. Make it be md5(grandma's socks color + microtime()) or something. As only you know the color of your grandma's socks, you are safe and can keep the precious link to yourself. But do not user referer-checking for anything, even your grandma knows how to fake it :))

    I hope this is a horror scenario, but happenings similar this are already documented history:
    when and if Samba raises to compete as the file/printer sharing protocol to be installed on Microsoft products instead of Microsoft products, they will just start using client certificates or something to criple Samba access to other MSFT shares. I quess cross-compatibility is not bad enough for MSFT to take action, but dare you replace their perfect piece of software with some GPL crap and you are in trouble.

    I do believe this is a scenario which could happen, maybe the court case changes something and the future is different, but until then they have strong artillery left to "defend the shares" ;))

    Pardon me, but as, for example this document, and multiple others state. Fingerprint ID has a false positive identification rate just under one percent. And gross biometric accuracy of 1:500.

    Simple mathematics applied, when the store gets some success, and it's customer base exceeds 500 or let's say even thousand - you are likely to always match someone else's fingerprint.

    Sincerely, fingerprints were not made for shopping. :))

    So far, these things are mostly just a cool looking (not my opinion) cases for hardware. I am well satisfied with my graycolored box.

    What is much more interesting is how to make these things move smoothly especially if the movement is to be done using (two) legs, is Honda still leading this area with their ASIMO humanoid robot, specifications for the bot are here. It seems like the beginnings of something real. Once they find a solution to increase the running time to 16 hours, this is something. Now it needs recharging after 15 minutes :)

    The Church of Scientology has forced Google to remove sites from its search engine using the controversial US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Lawyers representing the group, created by former science fiction writer L Ron Hubbard, used the DMCA to force Google to remove links to copyrighted material and has compared its actions to fighting terrorism.

    Maybe it's the fact that I am not atleast directly affected by this "regulation" but I dont see anything good in regulation (atleast on pricing) in matters like this.

    I believe, silly me, that competing market and companies ultimately provide best for the consumers.

    Ofcourse there are cases in which this might be good as for people who live in a rural area, which would not be good business for a company. Or in case that some company reaches monopoly. But otherwise, why is it so good? Or does this only affect the fact that Large Bad Telecom Companies now have to lease their cables for Smaller Good Companies.

    This is 100% pure FUD. The "secret" used to encrypt / decrypt data in this model does not seem very secret.

    The idea itself sounds Hollywoodic and nice: "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find the Ladies room, sit on the correct seat and decrypt this piece of FUD." ( hoping the ladies room has no roof, so that the signal goes through)

    In obfuscation we trust!

    I find it totally confusing that Network Associates did not find a buyer for the desktop security (PGP) product line. How is this possible. According to my understanding, it was basicly considered THE ONLY commercial PGP solution.

    I get for example the message flood of the CISSP forum, and it is not once or twice that this product has been mentioned.

    So why not buy the product line and opensource it completely. Is there any association or anything that could do it. This is something in where I could a donate a few dollars. I wonder if anything like this has been done before, some dead commercial product bought by the opensource community?

    Somehow I am fearing that the other (inferior?? and not open) solutions will win. PGP is good and we should save it.

    As what comes the GnuPG, I use it happily with pine. But it will take a immense amount of good publicity and hard work to get it working as easily with FEAR!! Outlook for example and to get those people convinced that it is something real.
    So, what's the quote on this product suite? :)) Well, maybe this is just words, but think about it once more, this was a big loss. .. conspiracy, anyone?

    Keep on the good work guys, it was fun to compete against you on those days. Maybe there's chance to do that sometime in the future as well :))

    Anyway, it might be beneficial if you could outline your bandwidth problem in a more detailed way: what does the traffic consists of. What's the peakhour traffic. That way we all could try to think whether we have something concrete in hands which ould help you out. Is there some design decisions that makes it hard to spread the traffic more? Or could the problem be changed by doing some design changes? What's your schedule, is there a date when you will be "cut off"

    Based on this interview it seems that his idea is that spam is bad only when it gets to mailbox of those people who did not want it.

    "There should be some kind of regulation. I'm not sure that the regulation of e-mail should be, or needs to be, different than the regulation of any other form of communication. "

    The biggest culprits are those that can make regulations on these matters, and did not do that in time. If it was done in 1994, the spamming culture might be totally different. Have we learnt the lesson yet? :)

    How much does reliable 3Mb/s really cost? Their project is already so popular, that it should not be a problem to find ways to make money with it.

    When we run the Cyberian RC5-56 challenge we got all kinds of offers from all kinds of companies willing to ship us something, a monster Digital machine for example. And our popularity was minimal compared to them - we had like 1 percent of the amount of clients that they run now.

    Why is it a problem in this case? I think that the help that they really need is the services of 1 (one) marketing oriented individual (that's not me) :)

    Well, it's not a bad start for a consulting firm.

    Eating rice or building the company on opensource? I think that they are not a start for anything. Well, maybe diarrea. IMHO opensource is just a tool and potentially one strategic selection amongst many others.

    You could as well have said that hammer and nails are a good start for a construction firm.

    Does anyone see my point. You aim somewhere and then select tools to reach the goals. Opensource is the hammer.

    I say better English is spoken in Tokyo. You be the judge.
