If it does get here in a reasonable amount of time, can it be used to pull high-currents of energy out of the earth's magnetic field by running a wire up and spinning it end-for-end through our field? Think of it as a generator with Earth's magnetic field in space as the magnets.
There was once a cable-link between the space shuttle and a satellite. They were rotating about eachother and the middle of the cable melted due to the inducted electrical energy across the length of the steel cable (get out your intergrals and ti92 to figure out the actual field energy).
It hasn't happened yet, but this is coming and we have predicted this for over a year now. Viruses will spread and attach a random document from your system with it. This sounds simple enough and you might think "Who cares about my book report from high school."
The real problem here is with privileged documents including medical ant attorney-client privileged documents. The implications of this are huge and this is not limited to the private sector. There is no reason that a government system could not get infected and spread documents which are confidential.
Hey, maybe we'll finally get a document explaining what happened at Area51! At least that would be a cool outcome of such a virus.
In any event, this is the next big revolution in worms and it will be interesting to watch and see where we will go next.
I guess if XML doesn't suck, I won't be able to look forward to my xml pocket-pussy or artificial "cron job"... Everyone needs a good cron job every so often.
Well, it gets through our spam
filter just fine. It got a weight of 33% spam which is way below our
threshold. I guess spam assassin and other such thingy-whuzzits need to
relax a little. Nobody has sent this cryptogram off to razor, have they?
That would cause a headache!
National Security Concepts sells internet-based virus filtering services so you don't need to worry about desktop antivirus software. As I understand, it works quite well!

So.. if we call the webtv support line and ask for help, will they help? Give them a fake number and phone number and let them know that you've been notified of a hold in webtv that makes it dial 911. Lookup a google image search on BSOD and report to the guy every so often the content of the image...
good times. Just remember: act dumb!
We have a client who uses Starband for internet access since it is their only option. The ping to the gateway is about 750ms on a good day, and every tenth packet or so drops. The client tries to pickup email via pop3 but the software will timeout the connection 9 of 10 times. Yes, it literally takes 10 tries to get it to *start* picking up email. The downlink has been as high as 300KB/s, but during peak usage hours has also been as low as 900b/s, if you can get on at all. If you use too much bandwidth, as defined by Starband, they will "FAP" your connection. FAP is fair access protocol. Basically they cut your connection if you download too much in so much time. I am pretty sure that "too much" and "so much time" are different depending on the day and/or hour of use, or rather, that is how it seems.

I am not sure it could be stated in fewer words. giving anyone the ability to update your system (or parts of it or software on it) *caugh* microsoft *caugh* makes me a little uneasy. Is this a change for the worse in the gaming industry? Are we going to start seeing "installation" software adding a "1.2.3.4 gameserver #pre" to our lmhosts file and then mapping some X: to \\gameserver\some-game-we-play so we always run off *their* version? Sure, the bandwidth on the internet isn't redily available, since not everyone runs on a DS3, but broadband is expanding quickly!
As a side note, I would like to put in a plug for www.beerSpray.com -- They've got spray logo generation setup to the point of "upload image, download pldecal.wad" for the Half-Life community:)

Anyone else with thoughts here? -geek

Can my new G3/4 come with a shiny tap for the various micro-brews arround? That would be the ultimate in RISC!
wireless pants! Everyone needs a good pair of wireless pants for when they are away from their woman.

I'm pretty sure this is what our government is doing with our hard earned tax dollars:
/pub
cd
less tequila
more beer
dd if=/dev/conciousness of=/dev/null
