    Offtopic but an addendum:
3rd degree burns larger than a quarter NEVER heal on their own, the skin and underlying tissue is dead, and since blood vessels and nerves were burned away eventually it will rot and cause a VERY nasty infection.

1st degree - red skin, itching, normally no medical attention needed
2nd degree - red skin, blisters, pain, may need medical attention if over a large area
3rd degree - black charred skin, or, if from liquid, fully white skin, both will have no sensitivity (as the nerves are dead) but the surrounding areas and damaged nerves will cause extreme pain and discomfort, requires medical attention.

Problem is they may not think it is an ad at all. You see an error message, click it, and get taken to a site where you can download a program that stops your IP from broadcasting address, creates faster downloads or some such, why would you have any reason not to think this program is from Microsoft? (or some other trusted vendor)

This means they won't start to distrust ads, but error messages and messageboxes, which is a bad thing and a big hassle for the average computer user.

    How many it takes?

Very simple example but the reasoning holds true:
Cost to make my website friendly for the blind =$10.000
Average earning per sale from my site = $100
    10.000/100 = 100

If I believe I can make 100 sales to blind people then I'd indeed be stupid not to make it accessible. If I believe I'll make less than 100 sales, then the financial incentive to do it is not there, thus it'll be done if and when I want to. Few businesses can validate doing something that'll lose them money, in the above case goodwill and PR may be extra incentive however.

I'd be very careful discussing things like this on public messageboards, even as speculation or in a joking manner. The above post, if shown to the wrong person, could very well result in an investigation, and in the current climate it doesn't take all that much for you to be tracked down and interrogated. Something that would definitely be a bad thing should you ever wish to seek employment that requires security clearance, not to mention having to explain to someone with a badge just why you posted suggestions on how to fight the US.

Am I paranoid? Possibly, that doesn't mean they're not out to get me though.

Big problem is, marketing is strong in MS. Ready or not, shipdates have to be met, features are more important than security, simplicity more important than reliability. Mostly all MS products suffer from the same flaws: Excellent idea, poor execution. Licensing schemes from hell, forced updates, strange product activation systems, DRM etc etc. These aren't bad ideas from the techs, they're things that marketing will push to increase short term revenue.

It wasn't until security problems actually started to hurt MS that they turned to focus on them. I believe, that if techs ran MS instead of marketing, we'd see a very different platform.
