So, it's all what floats your boat. Use what you want, and quit bashing ATI. Maybe your doing something wrong.

On the other hand, some distros are easier to secure such as Gentoo, because they don't install everything and the kitchen sink. Also the fact that you can update your whole system in one command, by keeping up-to-date your more secure. Also, there no pre-compiled distro specific binarys.

Redhat is an idea of a distro that installs so much uneeded stuff it's not even funny.

I attempted to use FreeBSD as my desktop OS for approximatley 5 months, it worked. Well it kinda worked, the biggest problem I had was X. It was stable, but had a tedency to crash with alot of the programs it ran.

Also the fact that theres really no support with my video card's OpenGL features, I wasn't even able to play my favourite game Unreal Tournament on FreeBSD. Nor when I tried Redhat 8.0 with a stock kernel (yes stock, it should work.. but it doesnt.) with Winex (Which I bought, and was a waste of money). It was sluggish, and didn't even work with the games it said it was supposed to work with.

I really want *NIX as a whole to succeed, but it's just not at that point where a average user can set it up and get it working out of the box. Even I had trouble getting it working, after 2 1/2 years of working with FreeBSD.

Eventually I just switched back to running Windows XP. Hell I had to wait till 4.7-RELEASE for me to be able to even install FreeBSD because of problems with the ATA drivers. Fun!
