Nobody can explain how the circut that evolved actually works. Like us, there were parts of the circut that seemed redundant or unnecessary. Sort of like the appendix.
The appendix isn't unnecessary! There would be starving families of general surgeons everywhere without this wonderful organ.
A whole slew of fatwallet users got the 180B5 for less than a $1000 bucks. I was one of these lucky guys, and I have been extremely happy. These little updates really help...
I would also suggest updating the ATI drivers, although it is difficult because you have to find the notebook version instead of the generic ATI drivers.
The VPRmatrix listed drivers are useless.
Oh, IMHO the extended protection plan from Best Buy is actually worth it since batteries and nontraumatic LCD problems are both fully covered. Heck, everybody will need at least one new battery in 3 years time. Since VPRmatrix may not be around forever, you insure that you have protection for at least three years.
Anyway... I love my box. Good luck finding one!

Come on. Give me a break. This isn't science!
You put a million coders in a room at the same time and tell them: "Hey, we are doing something to you. How are we affecting your coding?" Some people will say I am better... and some will say I am worse.
Who cares if this pseudosilence is being played or not. Whatever.
Just drawing attentions to somebody's emotions will probably cause someone to focus on those emotions and make them more intense.
The control group will eliminate this "placebo" response. Do this for a week at a concert. For half the concerts have the pseudosilence playing... for the other half don't.
Geez... just basic ole science.

difficult sort of update, sort of.
about record sales. and charts. and etc. i've written about this before, but i thought i'd address it again, especially in light of the fact that i have a new-ish record in stores. a while ago i wrote about the 'pearl jam effect'. i described the 'pearl jam effect' as being a phenomenon wherein bands who have very technically savvy fans will see their records do poorly in the charts, whereas bands/artists who have less technically savvy fans will see their records do quite well in the charts. this is owing to the fact that bands/artists with technically savvy fans will have a lot of fans who will end up downloading music or burning cd's, whereas less tech-savvy fans will generally end up buying their cd's. looking at the 3 week sales history of weezers new record, for example, has proven to me that this 'pearl jam effect' is strongly influencing the album charts in the states (and elsewhere, although not so much with weezer cos they seem to only sell a lot of records in north america). weezer sold a lot of records in their first week of release, but since then their sales have dropped off considerably. even though they have radio hits. even though they have a very loyal fan-base. even though they've made a record that their fans really like. even though there's good press coverage on the band and their new cd. etc. i would be very interested to know not how many cd's weezer have sold, but how many copies of their record are actually in existence. i have a feeling that there might be almost twice as many copies of their new record in existence (in the form of mp3's or burned cd's) as have actually been sold. i'm not saying that this is a good or a bad thing. i'm not writing this to voice my opinions. my concern is more for the way that the industry looks at the success of a musician or of a record that sells or doesn't sell. popular artists traditionally sold a lot of records. in the future that might not be the case. in fact even now that might not be the case. pink outsells weezer in the states not so much because she's more popular, but because her fans are more likely to buy, as opposed to burn, her cd's. i don't mean this as a criticism of pink, i'm just using her as an example. just look at the american top 20 and you'll see what i'm talking about. most of the records in the american top 20 are by bands whose fans are, for the most part, more inclined to buy a cd as opposed to burn or download it. again, i'm not editorializing. i'm just pointing out a strange phenomenon and wondering at what effect it will have on the future of music. this whole issue of burning and downloading is too big and too complicated for me to really voice my opinion on it (not to mention the fact that having an opinioin on burning and downloading is kind of like having an opinion on the weather. meaning that having an opinion about the weather isn't really going to change anything.) ok, that's it. good night. moby
As of March
25, 2002, IE 6's global browser usage share
was 30.5 percent, up from 2.4 percent
shortly after its initial launch only seven
months ago, according to WebSideStory's
StatMarket (www.statmarket.com), a leading source for data on global Internet
user trends. Meanwhile, Netscape's global usage share has sharply declined.
Netscape held steady with about a 12 percent global usage share for more than a
year, until the release of IE6, at which point it began dropping precipitously.
Netscape's global usage share is currently just over 7 percent. Global browser
usage share is the percentage of daily Internet users worldwide that access the
Internet through a particular browser.
But the solution to the telomere time-clock is a solution for IMMORTALITY
Actually, telomeres are not the key to organism immortality... only cell-lines. Scientists have developed several immortal cell lines... all from cancer cells.
The human body needs cells to die on a regular basis. Older cells are more likely to have genome damage... and thus work less well and fail to accurately pass on genetic materials to future cells lines.
Does anybody know the latest information regarding the telomere problem in clones?
Telomeres are long stretches on the end of the chromosome that are cleaved off through the life of the cell. When a certain number of telomeres are gone, the cell knows to undergo death. Some cancer cells protect these telomeres... and thus are immortal.
However, as clones are created from already aged cells... these clones have shorter telomeres. In theory, these clones should age differently. This may be the reason that Dolly already has arthritis, for example.
Soon HDTV copy protection will be built into the display, not some external box. This will severely limit the ability to decode signals before they disappear into your set.
The really bad news is that once this takes place, the current HDTV sets will be worthless. Yes... your $3k set will be need to be replaced again.
Touche. Good point.
Of course, the flip-side would be... that slashdot might not need the extra money if it could get bigger/betters ads. If it were not so completely biased against the evil empire... windows-related companies might spend money here.
Many microsoft-using people read slashdot for the excellent tech news. I just thought it worth my poor karma to point out that slashdot gains hits/traffic by playing the linux vs microsoft card as much as possible.
To get a slashdot article posted just setup a script to search google for articles. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&o e=ISO-8859-1&q=microsoft+and+bad+press
I wasn't offended.
Slashdot enjoys sparking the microsoft vs everybody stimuli as much as possible. Good for hits... good for the new ads.
This was just quite a reach for interest.
Once again, slashdot shows that it will gladly bash microsoft at every turn... Is there anybody on the slashdot crew that uses windows? With the money probs, it seems that slashdot would try to be as friendly as possible to all the geeks.
What a weak article...
I have never worked for WorldCom; however, I lived in Clinton, MS when WorldCom moved in. Holy cow do they spend the money!
They first went in and built a huge complex that out-towered anything else in the state (okay, which doesn't take much.) Next, they spent large amounts of money on a nearby private Baptist College (Mississippi College). They built a multi-million dollar gym and performance center on campus... It worked out as well as WorldCom had free use of the facilities and the small college gained valuable structures.
Multiple utilities were upgraded as well. That small town received city-wide cable-modem access even before Jackson (which is the capitol city) did.
All of this to say... all least in that small Mississippi town, working for WorldCom was golden.

Quote from [2F13] Bart vs. Australia
-- Hello, Joker, "Bart vs. Australia"
The room at the embassy where the family get to stay is luxurious.
Homer: Oh, yeah, this is the life! Boy, next summer can you commit some fraud in Orlando, Florida?
Bart: I'm way ahead of you, Dad.
Conover: [walking in] Kno-ock! Simpsons, I'd like you to meet our ambassador, the honorable Avril Ward.
Ward: Hello. Now, everything is all set for Bart's apology. Mr. Conover will meet you at the parliament house at three p.m. Questions?
Bart: Yeah, do the toilets go backwards in here?
Ward: No. To combat homesickness, we've installed a device that makes them swirl the correct American way.
[he flushes the toilet]
[it swirls one way, then a machine kicks in and makes it swirl the other way]
Homer: [singing] Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing...[weeps]
