I've seen quite a few people buy the mac laptops to put linux on them... Haven't heard about anyone doing the same for workstations though, to be honest.
imho, laptops are where its at w/ apple. ATM, id most likely buy an apple laptop before a pc one, if I were to go out and purchace one tomorrow. Certainly once the G5 laptops come out... mmmmmm.
errr, call me crazy, but why would you even *want* to use glide on linux? are there even any linux 3d accelerated apps (games, what ever) that use glide? I'd be suprised. link please.
I've switched between vid cards before in linux. wasnt anything besides changing the driver etc in xf86config...;/
I'm not saying linux is for everyone yet, but... oh well.
I have been a long time pc user, windows desktop (usually) and used linux extensively as servers etc. I have it as a desktop (gentoo/fluxbox) on some machines, but dont use them all that much.
I recieved a powerbook laptop (pre titanium) and it had OSX on it. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! Once I had installed the dev tools, fink, and some other key, but free software, I had one heck of a powerfull laptop. I even dual booted it w/ gentoo linux for fun.
I think OSX is a great OS, and is only getting better. The only thing that keeps me from going OSX hardcore is the price of the hardware, and of course that I cant play all games that I would want to on osx. well, that, and I just dont like the one button mouse thing all that much... (yes, I know you can use multiple button mice)
But, if I were to buy a laptop any time soon, I would surely buy an apple (I wouldnt be using a laptop to be playing hard core fps games etc regardless)
Right now, imho, laptops are where its at w/ apple. Still, the new g5 dual workstations are lookin pretty phat.
naw. OSX, once you have installed fink/dev tools, is everything you could want for the most part.
Besides, if I were to put linux on a ppc machine, it would surely be gentoo ; )
So you can scan for dhcp servers. There are always a couple idjits who came to the party w/ internet connection sharing turned on the windows boxes, handing out bad or conflicting IPs to people around the network.
Then make sure you have a bullhorn or pa system, so you can start yelling "ok, who the hell is 'l33th4xor' and why are you a dumb ass?"
the EFF or whomever should take a collection for somethign like a superbowl commercial spot, to show what the RIAA is doing, that they are pricefixing and inflating prices while releasing crappy music.
Convince people to stop buying cds until they wise up, and start offering music thats easily obtainable and for a reasonable price, so it wont be *worth* it to pirate.
Man, if I was a multimillionare, thats what I would do....
yes, to a point. But I think the best implementation of this would be between backbones. Or is that possible to enable it just between certain routers? IE not fully between said server in russia, and pr0n leeching client in alabama?
since when does vidomi work on linux? I know it was talked about, but havent seen anything come to fruition yet...

this site used to host bittorrents for slashdot stuff, but haven't seen anything there in a while... used to have 6 or so downloads from recent/. stuff.
I dont know enough about open mosix, but would this concievably work for game servers? Problems I forsee would be the issue of the servers needing to bind to ips, and secondly, the server process switching nodes and lagging like hell.
anyone know enough to talk about this?

yes, torrent please. Websites of this nature should get smart and just start providing their own bittorrent links, and throw up a few volunteer seeds.

Don't get me wrong, I would never willingly be an aol customer, of course I think their service is a POS.
But that doesn't mean that this specific instance is a huge deal. Plus, I know some people who work at aol, and I'm pretty sure they have regualar smtp servers for their customers...

Last I heard, they were thinking of knocking down the speed to like 20 instead of the 54. I guess this didnt go through?
true, it would be nice if competitions lowered prices...
But netflix owns me. no more latefees!!! you have no idea how much money this has saved me hehe.
if its a generic term... why did apple think it was a big deal to use the term in their marketing?
with a 100+ person lanparty, thats just impossible to bother with. well, not impossible, but seriously more trouble than its worth imho.

True, but defending linus would be the greatest example for the need of probono work by the EFF and FSF etc etc.
I doubt linus has anything to worry about financially.
besides making damn sure, I'm sure the fact that today was sco's conference call had a lot to do it...
