My data traffic ( dedicated to direct communication between humans, not just idle data use like downloads or forum posts ) exceeded 'voice' communication decades ago.
So you write a Trojan, get the PC infected and have it do the downloading for you then report back. Then you leave an anonymous tip.
No breaking and entering at all.
Scary thing, is for revenge against people you don't like you can just drop those anonymous tips all over the place and have innocent people harassed and their stuff taken for review and their face all over the evening paper.. And if they just happen to have something they shouldn't, like say a MP3 they downloaded, they might get ruined financially..as a bonus.
Some states have their BMV pictures in a database now, whats a bit of extra data ( the fingerprint )? Storing is easy, its mining the data that is hard. ( and these days, not all that hard )
1) will they get a copy of users search history (complete with creditcard logs linking them to the account)? (and no, I've never been a member) 2) when do they start going after the usenet providers themselves?
Yes ( and i bet its grounds for warrants to search your home/pc ), and looks like they are heading that direction now.
Gotta love getting in hot water decades later for doing something that was legal.. "you used usenet... that makes you a pirate"
They are just trying to win government support today by looking like they care about their people, and will pull out a 'its for the children' event later to take it away, with a bunch of flag waving and applause by the people..
As long as there are search engines and choices, the war isn't over. A war of unskilled attrition, ( like Microsoft plays ) can take a long time to end.
Right, as long as there are no penalties for overruns and scope creep, there is really no incentive to complete a job on time and within budget. ( this applies to both sides of a contract as there is plenty of blame to spread around )
Not only do you make "more money off it" due to the length of the project, but you don't have to worry about finding your next gig.

Don't you mean eradicate instead?
"I was walking my dog, and I heard some strange noise and when i looked up I saw a computer thru his window, and you cant believe what horror i saw"
That will get you your warrant.
May never get a job again either.

there was no OS. if you wanted an OS, you wrote it in basic as you needed it.
Real mean wrote their own bootstrap, OS and higher level language in assembler.. "Basic".. damned kids these days.
Someone else did ship a modular computer like that in the mid 80's.. Cant remember their name. Saw their ads in Byte.

That's part of the price of being the main guy.. When things are up you shine and are on covers of magazines, when they aren't, you get the blame.
This is about Freedom of expression and Freedom of communication more than it is about any single issue.
Ok, but if a country doesn't feel that their people have that right, who gives Google a right to usurp it?
Hey, i get an hour lunch break and 2 other contractual/legal breaks.. I have a phone.. Leave my personal time out of it.
4. Use an assumed name.

We are losing.
Wont help oracle licensing costs .. in fact it will raise costs, unless you virtualize..
And then dropped their service. Hitting them in the pocketbook is the only hope to stop DRM. Act today!
Its worked so well for the *AA to demonize ( and sue ) their customers.
This is why some vendors protect some duplicated VM data ( like the OS ).
And sure stock DDup is not the end all to be all, but it goes a long way to that goal and the risks are more then worth the gains.
Anonymity is counter to governmental operations.

Is *everything* caught up in a patent fight and we cant do anything at all?

Pubic service is voluntary. It happens by directly applying for a position, appointment, or being elected.
Last i heard no one was forced into working for the government ( well, forced taxation and convicted prisoners not withstanding :) )
Attendance systems are in place in private business too, so what is the difference?
Where do i sign up?
