Also, if i'm giving back back to the grid on good days, they are in effect getting free power to distribute elsewhere so they shouldn't bitch about it.
Well, since the FCC says you cant have them here in the US, i think that question has been answered pretty clearly. I think the goal should be getting the laws changed to something more rational, not questioning what is on the books now.

Why does a keyboard even need flash in the first place? Being a keyboard isn't a complex job.
