    I think your title is a bit misleading. When you say "Linux" I think Linux kernel. *snip*

    Yes, misleading, but rather typical of the general misunderstanding that is prevalent. But then again, what value is a kernel to the average joe? So its just easier then trying to explain how it all fits together to a non techie. ( kernel, X, desktop, etc.. )

    Even with BSD where it IS the sum of its ( official ) parts, the explanation still gets messy.

    All they want is something that will be stable and get the job done, in a consistent manner. Often times the bells and whistles for the sake of having htem just get in the way, and damages consistency making things confusing when they don't need to be.

    I don't have a iPhone so i don't know how that works, but are you stuck with getting stuff from the 'officially blessed' iStore or can you just get any random app from wherever you want?

    If so, sounds like its time for a 3rd party store without such ridiculous rules....

    Such a function is expected to be useful in a culture lacking modern sanitation and healthcare practice, where diarrhea may be prevalent.

    Assuming they are correct ( its still just a theory ), as the human race continues to advance the need would be reduced and eventually eliminated, so ya, it should be 'evolved out' of the species.

    Thats cheating, really its not a C64, its an embedded machine that happens to have composite video output.

    So what? Who is to say they aren't slowly evolving away and they were much more pronounced in the past when we needed it living out in the wild?

    Much like an appendix, its most likely something once useful that is on the way out. Evolution doesn't happen overnight.
