If I read this (table A1 p117) the top four employment categories are 1) Manufacturing 2) Retail 3) Health Care and 4) Hotels. Do any of these sound safe from outsourcing? Not to me.
Not saying there are not major issues ( i was displaced out of my career market due to NAFTA years ago, with little hope to return to what little is left ) but it all depends on what part of the market you are in.
For example, the building will have to continue to exist with a hotel to have customers. Cant have overseas people cleaning it from their country. If the HVAC or network breaks, have to have someone on site.
Healthcare... Same sort of thing. People get sick HERE and have to be taken care of HERE. So you have a physical presence that has to be maintained. Doctors, facilities..
Manufacturing.. well we still have to transport the stuff that is made elsewhere and warehouse it..
Retail.. still same sort of thing as above.. physical presence.
I used to use both of them, but got tired of them rebooting themselves on heavy usage.
If they sat idle, the were fine but push some packets thru and they couldn't hold up.
Since then i went to a PC based solution ( currently Pfsense which does all that i need, but im sure the rest are just as good. Migrated from monowall due to lack of wifi support back then and before that IPcop )
Ah, but you forget, other communication occurs across the alt*. hierarchy, such as anti government discussion, or where privacy advocates discuss practical techniques.
If you honestly think its to stop child porn, you have your head in the sand.
"We are sorry that you are no longer permitted to leave your home without a pre-approved commute plan and a scheduled police escort, after a thorough 'intent-scan', but think of the children".
But back on topic, i agree with them in that *everything* should be encrypted. It really isn't anyones business, even if all im doing is getting a message from the wife to pick up milk on the way home.
If I'm under court blessed investigation for a crime, there are other avenues to do the proper research. Or have we *all* become suspects and everyone is under investigation now?
On top of that you have Aaron Segio now suggesting that users should have less control over configuration, fewer choices, and saying that end users are dumb. He also has suggested repeatedly lately that if you're not a coder, then you can't comment on UI issues.
I agree with the first 1/2 of his statement, but not at all about the last part.. Non coders are the BEST ones to comment about UI usability. Without users, you don't have any UI coding to do.
To clarify, I feel that all *politicians* are evil, not just anyone that is involved with government. ( there are a lot of non political members of government, just doing their job every day trying to feed their family and to make a difference )
The system has become corrupt over time, and anyone that has the slightest hint of 'goodness' has it quickly wrenched from them as they are corrupted the rest of the way. i don't think anyone getting into politics is 'good' at their core to begin with so its a short trip to corruption.
Well, if you get technical on the definition, astrology would still qualify. Its been tested for thousands of years, using observations and experimental results.
Watching the movements of the stars and constellations for making a 'chart' is observation, and every day you can get your 'horoscope' out of the paper, which id say is experimental.. ( sure ive over simplified it, but it was a easy example )
Even ID could be construed as observation, perhaps twisted, but still...
I'm sorry but this is a blanket black and white statement that doesn't deserve to be taken seriously. Nelson Mandela was a politician. Gandhi was a politician. I guess all of their admirers have issues?

I see it happen a lot here in my area, but rarely are their any ramifications attached.

And you can be 100% sure to stop things in their tracks.
Been doing my part for years.
I also avoid non US manufactured products, when practical.
According to congress, the media industry is the most important industry we have in this country. ( i forget who actually said the words however )
That statement is sad, no matter how you look at it.
Ya, its still there. The government, and comcast, haven't killed it off totally, yet.

Once it becomes federal law, they will be next.
This is just the beginning, its more like 'bye bye to our way of life and freedom'.
And who is going to be brave enough to complain these days and risk being tagged a dissident?
"We are sorry that you are no longer permitted to leave your home without a pre-approved commute plan and a scheduled police escort, after a thorough 'intent-scan', but think of the children".
Except they really aren't pirating anything.

That burns up just outside of 90 days..
Odd, i don't remember it being that way when i got my first powerbook 165.. but ill take your word for it i was mistaken.
Except it was free to begin with. Nothing there changed, except support is gone.
8.0 is when they started charging for the OS.
Some of us feel the same about current software, and act accordingly.
If part of an industry is relying on something and it goes poof, it costs quite a bit of money to retool to accommodate such a radical change.
Also goes to show you that old isn't always 'bad'.

The term 'stealing' is even less accurate then 'piracy'.
At least the term piracy has been melded to fit the situation via popular opinion, where as stealing doesn't apply by definition.
Copyright Infringement is the correct phrase to use..

And yes, everyone has their price.
Good politicians? Heh, pass whatever you are smoking around.
Yes, which is part of my point. Our very concept of patriotism is relative to who is writing the history books, and who won.
One mans patriot is another mans terrorist. Same act, different side.

Isn't that what i said, twice even?
Haven't met one yet.
