This is just insane but it doesn't do much good for us all to sit here and whine about it to ourselves. *we* are not the market that keeps funding these people. Howver, *we* have a responsibility to mobilize and get the word out to the *regular public*. Call every talk show you can print flyers.. Spread the word, while we still have the right of "freespeech" on our side.
Even in the summary, it states they are intending to use Bootcamp: "With Boot Camp students at the Pennsylvania liberal arts college will be able to switch between Windows and OSX, choosing which applications and OS to use at any given time."
So they arent dumping windows, they are just going to a more manageable single-source hardware vendor, whch just happens to be Apple.
Sure, its a good thing as more students will get a taste of OSX, but please be a bit more accurate here of what is going on. Geesh.
I don't care that I'm not doing anything wrong, i don't want my equipment keeping an eye on me and automatically snitching on me if it thinks i am doing something wrong. Its *MY* hardware, it should do my bidding, not the other way around.
Whats next, cars that call the police and cry for help if you exceed the speed limit? or cable guys that are just an extension of the law, looking for infractions in your home and get bonuses for turning people in?
How long will it be until just the fact you searched some 'forbidden knowledge' puts you in front of a 'team' to explain your actions, regardless of any intent to actually use the information for more then a learning experience.
Thats all it will take for it all to come crashing down on us and for our digital freedoms to dry up. Enough people get snowed into thinking this and we are all screwed.
Perhaps when it first was thought up it *might* have made a little bit of sense, but today, lots of the arguments just disappear:
Such as:
Lights at the office: They are on all day anyway, natural light is a thing of the past..
Streetlights: Well you still have the same amount of light/dark so that does nothing for you either.
Easier to do business: unless we have ONE timezone for the entire world, that is just a silly argument.
I think that the addition of the 'levies' will reduce the number of ( legit ) stations broadcasting on the net. So the net ( no pun intended ) income will be less.
Dont want to get involved an a 'gay flame war'? Well, you might want to consider your responses first, as they are rather inflammatory by nature.
You have issues, i think a therapist might help you out some. Or perhaps jump off a bridge.
And feel free to respond however you wish, and get the last word in, I'm done with this, and you.
Do you actually have a point? Or was it yesterday when you turned 17 and now you are supposedly an adult? Idiot.
Sounds like a setup and she was fishing for something to sue over.

I meant to say not dumping *windows*.. Geesh. sorry people.
Would be nice if you could go back and edit your posts for when you make stupid mistakes you dont catch until after you hit submit.

The government cant lose control of the population.
If even 10% of the viewing audience was lost it would be 10's of millions of citizens that wouldnt get the daily propaganda. Too much of a risk.

Because Hitler also had this bad habit of killing off entire classes of people he didnt like.
If it wasnt for that, you might have actually saw some sort of merger ( we call it 'international trade' today ) take place.
Sure, why not? its no different then restrictions on *children* in the physical world.
I agree it would be nearly impossible to enforce, but does that mean its a bad idea? I dont think so.

Geesh.. that is nothing. try more like 100000 nodes like some of us..
You could manage 1000 on the back of a napkin almost.
Dont forget typos from hell.. And being too lazy to edit/review.
"In Sales, we constantly have to lie to people, be fake, and manipulative. If you can live with yourself, you should be OK."
A lot of coders are like that as well, they just bank on the fact they will be long gone before things fall apart.
Why do i get a feeling they wont ever get it, and this is just the beginning.
Ever hear of typos, dumbass?
Only for small close nit groups. Once you grow to a particular size, they breakdown into chaos.
I would argue that Linux is no longer a close nit group.
Well... there is your problem...
If not, then its not 'free speech gone too far'.
Why do we still have pilots?
You mean they dropped the DRM and reduced the price by 75%?
Cool!
If i say no, its none of their business.
Having your IP and date/time IS identifying you. All it takes is a quick phone call to your ISP, and they can instantly have your address and name.
