If the flash requires a hardware jumper to reset, then no worries.. If its software controlled, then ya, you are screwed.
I think you could set a flash IDE drive to read only, and use it for your boot/OS. Sure it could trash your data, but at least the system is ok after the reboot. If not, I think there is a market for this.
But i would imagine that the 'solution' will never filter down to the common man as it will be so complex only a few of us will be able to control our own hardware at that point. ( such a small amount they wont care anymore )

Ah, but you forget the push to make it a criminal issue... I dont doubt they will manage at some point.

In fact, some states allow you to fire on an intruder in your home even if you arent threatened directly, as the unwelcome intrusion is enough of a threat. Not when there is a gate at the entrance with a sign that declares it private property and no tresspassing.
There is also a 10' fence that encircles the ENTIRE property. Again, with adequate signage.
