For me, i ignore 99% of all ads, even if they might interest me.
And for that 1% that make it thru my 'ingore filter', i vow to never purchase a product from that company again.
Does that mean i have mastery control over markets? No, but I'm sure I'm not that different then other consumers who are sick and tired of the ad-overload that is EVERYWHERE and have learned to tune it all out.
Too bad i had built a portable music player back in the early 80s.
Totally solid state.. Totally useless due to the memory tech at the time. ( so it was scrapped )
Too bad i cant prove it.. Doh !
The moral to this story: Owning a patent does not mean you were the actual inventor. it only means you are the one that got to the patent office first.
In a library you have one purchased copy. You have one person checking it out at a time. Its truly 'borrowing'. You dont have concurrent 'non paying' users like is being proposed by google.
Not saying its a bad thing and i wish google the best. I just dont see it happening quite like they want, due to greed in corporate society today..
If the code is open, many people will use it as they feel fit.
Sure, there will be suits and accusations, but business will continue as usual.. I really dont see some 'magical version 3' changing anything around here.
And no, its not a troll to start a arguement on the validity of GPL/BSD/ETC, ( which i wont particpate in any longer anyway ) just a statement about the current state of 'code reuse' in the world.
Cars are 'systems'. Vastly more complex then that PC you are sitting at now. It also has much more real ramifications if it doesnt perform. People can die.
It is not realisitc to expect average users to understand the PC from a techincal side. It has *nothing* to do with stupidty or lazyness. Its an appliance to them, nothing more.
IT people hired to be experts, we do agree on that part. They should know what they are doing and take action.
The dropping of common carrier status also removes any protection of content. Now the ISP will be liable for content that passes over their lines.
The 'consumer' no longer will have a right to privacy, since its no longer considered 'telecommunications', which was protected.
So its not about protecting us, its about controlling and monitoring us. Oh, and if it happens to make the big campaign contributors a few bucks along the way, all the better.
If there was no bomb, there may not have been a cold war.
Thats because the allies might have lost if it drug on even longer. That would mean no allies left, no Russia as we know it, so no cold war.
You are an idiot. We were at war with people bent on destroying our way of life. ( and in the case of Hitler, all living people that didnt fit his idea of perfection ) This was not some 'border skirmish'.
The bomb was needed to end the war. Period. Why dont you go throw flowers at the enemy sometime and see what it gets you.
I see you are a victim of the sick 'rewriting of history' that is being done to serve an anti-american agenda, so i wont blame you for your total ignorance of reality.
This is not much different then what Hitler was doing to his own history, twisting and rewriting Germany's 'history' to serve HIS agenda. Or Stalin over in Russia...
Go to a *real* library and try reading some facts of what really happened, then you may return to class.
The Japanese attacked us first. They started the issue.
"occupying places in the middle east" ( in order to liberate the people, BTW ) is not even close to the same concept as what took place back in WWII.
Bombing civilians? Wake up, the axis powers did far more to civilians then we did in those 2 single bombings, which is what it took to end the war. And dont kid yourself, if we didnt do that, the war would have drug on a *lot* longer and a lot more of your precious civilians would have died, on both sides.
Dont forget VPN and dialup clients too..
No, in my case what you refer to as 'undercover' marketing wouldnt be effective either.
What my friends have or like doesnt really factor into my buying habits.

I'm curious if there are projects out there using the existing 3D engines ( and soon this one ) to produce things other then kill or be killed games?
Perhaps walk thru mazes, adventure type games ( like the old space quest series ) etc..
Not everyone gets into blowing imaginary creatures to bits and watching the blood run, but appreciate the effort going into the rendering code...
No, i think you are the one that is freaking out.
The issue is that a person is getting fired for what appears to be out of their control. For a what seems to be a single incident.
This has nothing to do with freespeech/etc. Its about the transposing of fault to innocent people.
The person doing the viewing is at fault and should be punished, not the person running the building.
The only thing it should do for the librarian is serve as a wakeup call that their blocking procedure isn't adequate.
Blame anyone other then the actual person at fault.
Its always someone else's fault, they are just victims.

From what i can tell, he is being jailed for THEFT, not spam.
While i agree with most here that spam sux, there is a difference between being convicted of spamming and convicted of being a common thief.
So dont get too happy yet shouting 'spammers are toast'.

Why, all of them of course..
I cant imagine them letting too many of their 'products' become free...
Its also illegal...
Did it not occur to you that the article didnt state any more features then storing of data?
Just because they tossed decent power in it, doesnt mean they will let you get to it.
Companies do dumb things. Often. So id rather not just assume, unlike you.
Looks like its nothing more then just some storage space.. Big deal..
Now if you can actuall run applications on it, now that would be something to look at.
If the code is open, many people will use it as they feel fit.

The same thing could be used to weed out most anyone in any career, if the company really wanted to push it.
How about insurance companies " sorry, you have the *potential* for illness xyz, we refuse to cover you ".
Or one step further.. " you have the potential to have mental illness in the future, so we will need to detain you, for your own safety of course.
Aside from the practicalities and the potential pissed off customers, is that even legal?
if you want to fall behind and be controlled ( or obliterated ) by someone who DID build a fleet space weapons.
you cant seriously think that hiding you head in the sand actually works in this day and age?

Ignorance, yes.
Users shouldnt have to understand how it all works and how to secure their network/pc. It should come that way.
Much as your car does. You shouldnt have to understand how the locks work, or the ECM's. They should 'just work'.
Is it nice that you can tear down and rebuild a transmission in 2 hours flat? Sure, but you cant expect the average citizen to know that.
IS not to protect consumers.

The problem is that this is being taught in schools now, so that the next generation feels responsible for what happened.
Much as they are teaching people to feel guilty for slavery GENERATIONS ago..
The real sad part is this 'movement' is gaining momentum and succeeding in weeding out reality, and lowering the bar.
I see you are a victim of the sick 'rewriting of history' that is being done to serve an anti-american agenda, so i wont blame you for your total ignorance of reality.

Just dont forget who STARTED the damned war. ( hint, it wasnt the US, who finished it )
The way we finished the war saved a lot more lives then would have been lost if we all kept fighting.
