If you can't afford Photoshop, you probably don't NEED it. I use it everyday on projects for paying clients. Believe me, it is worth $600.
Would I like software to be cheaper? Sure, but I only use software that I find value in. Such as Photoshop and Flash. They help me make money, so they're worth it.
Depends on if the computers improved the productivity or quality of work. Maybe Mac OS X can do that. It's pretty obvious Mac OS 9 could not, or they would have always been on Macs.
BTW, Jobs doesn't own Apple or Pixar, he's just the CEO. Hell, he was even fired form Apple once.
Pudge posted the story on slashdot, he didn't report it, "lopati" did.
And just about every story on Slashdot comes form other sites. That is the nature of slashdot, they gather nerd news from around the web and then peple comment on it. It's not like they have investigative reporters doing interviews, etc...
BTW, a lot of the interesting stories found on slashdot come from memepool.com
Rendezvous sounds interesting... open standard too

Apple Drops Mac OS 9

Rendezvous. Dynamic IP discovery. Lets computers "dynamically discover each other and share them." Proposing as a new industry standard. Jobs cited example of multiple Macs working at home sharing MP3 files with iTunes between multiple computers. Demonstrated example of MP3 files streaming over AirPort. Works with any IP-ready device; built into Jaguar and will also be offered as an open industry standard that can be built into specific devices.
a number of sony and compaq computers come with them, and a card can be had for $50 or less if i remember correctly. I don't use PCs though, so I could be wrong.
I'm suprised with the reliabilty. My current uptime on my home machine is 88 days (I'm running 10.1.2 and I'm waiting to hit 100 days before I update the OS). 88 is impressive because I treat this thing like shit... install shareware apps, run a shitload of programs, force quit stuff, experiment with different command line tools... all without a crash, hangup, or a restart.
I have had two crashes (I suppose I should call them kernel panics now). Once on this machine when I first installed X (about a year ago) and once on a machine at work that I was messing around with. Other than that, my experience has been rock solid.
I actually have played GUNVALKYRIE, and it is quite good. Fast and furious desctruction. Although I find most of the games I listed to be quite good.
Porject Gotham Racing: Deep, challenging, entertaining Rallisport Challenge: Fun (with my new Gamester controller/wheel thingie) Tony Hawk 3 - tired? ok, I agree, but still a great game if you haven't played the first 2 to death. JSRF: Not as good as JSR? Ok, I agree there too, but it's still a damn good game. Wreckless: I liked it. But then again, I like games where I can just sit down and smash shit for 15 minutes and then shut it off. DOA3: sucks ass. but I didn't list it.
as long as I'm typing...
Transworld surf: Entertaining for a couple of hours, but gets old fast. NHL 2002: Rocks. NBA 2002: Eats shit. WWF Raw: create a wrestle is good... but game is too slow for me.
Why am I posting to a topic that is days old? Like anyone is going to read this shit.
Try these before you make statements like that... you're bound to like at least a couple of them: Project Gotham Racing Rallisport Challenge GUNVALKYRIE Tony Hawk 3 Jet Set Radio Future Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions
QuickTime is largely dependant on the horrible patented sorenson codecs...
You obviously know very little about Quicktime. Please explain how quicktime is in any way dependent on the sorenson codec (not codecs, there's only one)? It's a fucking codec! Now, a lot of quicktime content is dependent on the sorenson codec because that is what the developers used to compress the media. If sorenson went away, quicktime would be the same as always (just missing a closed source, but great codec).
Sometimes I really wonder why such blatent FUD makes it in people's comments.:)
While it might not be a "milestone" of anything, it does all of those better than anything else I've seen. Plus, you can play breakout on it.
I believe users of a lesser platform can get a firewire card for arounf 30 bucks. Also, you can use the iPod with Windows. Doesn't look like their is a linux solution yet, but you're probably used to that:-)
Try using a fucking product, or at least read up of it before you decide to comment on it. It makes you look like less of an idiot/asshole.
Somehow I can't quite bring myself to mourn the loss of arson1, another quality @home subscriber.
Somehow I can't quite bring myself to give a shit about what you think. (if you weren't an anonymous coward, maybe I'd care a little more):-) I'm in a shitty mood because my only option for high speed service is being taken away.... let me vent for christ's sake.
I know a lot of people on the @home network spam, spread viri, etc... but I'm not one of them! Let me have my speed!!! It's like giving a junkie free crack for a couple of years that then make them quit cold turkey.
Damn, now that I think about it, I don't even have a modem in my desktop computer... or a port to hook up my external 56k.... damn Macs and their no-legacy ports!
Xbox is taking the Market that Dreamcast was going after.
I won't disagree wwith your other points, but I have to respectfully disagree with that. While I'm sure Microsoft will take any market they can, judging from what I've seen so far, they are headed for the throats of the PS2 fans...
Sega had (and still has... see Super Monkey Ball) a great ability to make unbelievibly innovative games that on the surface look a little strange.... a little Japanesish (yeah, not a word, I know:-)) Their best games don't always (there are exceptions) revolve around killing or professional sports. On the other hand you have Xbox which seems to offer only the typical games I'm used too... how boring. I want something new, not DOA 3 (I haven't played it yet, but as a fighter fan, I think the first two sucked). Halo seems like it is at least a little innovative. My point is, I think Sega's market is the hardcore gamers, people that play the games that are indepth, have balance, and high replay value. XBox is going after the frat boy demographic, guys that want to play a couple of games of football, or kick each others asses in some fighting game, but would write off Super Monkey Ball because it looks like a little kid game
Personally, I have a PS2, which I love (Grand Theft Auto 3 is an amazing game), I have a GameCube on the way (Chistmas present), and I will most likely buy an Xbox, probably after Christmas.
Go read the fucking article, it is not an addon-pack, therte will be new features and differnt game play. Here's the link, read it before you comment;

or GTA; Vice City, not GTA3: Vice City
That is what educational versions are for.

This guy did, and there's some amusing results....

+anal +sandwich!?!?!?
I can't even imagine what that is.
They may be obscure to you, but I use them everyday.
The Dead Milkmen! I haven't heard them in years.
Got a link to this info? PIXAR had it's IPO back in 95, does Steve still own a majority of the company?

fuck off. I'm using an SGI ONYX 300 Series InfiniteReality3... not quite a personal computer.

But the email said it was an exclusive deal just for me!
size. weight. interface. speed. battery life.

I'm sorry, but you can go fuck yourself.
they didn't sell out around here, I can still pick up at xbox or a gamecube... so maybe your point amounts to exactly jack shit and 43 cents. :-P

ps. Dreamcast destroys them all
Sega didn't start in 3rd place though.
