  1. Ok I Admit on PAX 2006 Recap · · Score: 1, Interesting

I didn't read the article(s), but that is because there were 7 frickin' links!

Don't you love it when people can get along though!

Not only was it a celebration of the popular webcomic, which enjoys its rep of mercilessly skewering the gaming industry, but it also marked a convergence of interests: table-top gamers standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Nintendo fans hoping against hope that the Wii would be playable in some dark corner of the exhibition hall.

  2. Dead Rising TV Commercials on Attack of the B-Grade Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

I saw the TV commercial ads for Dead Rising on cable the other day. I bet you just on those commercials alone, that this will become a slightly popular game. The ads were very impelling. It made you look like you were about to buy and play the next Resident Evil - like zombie killing game.

  3. Re:3am TV Meets 3pm /. on Getting Into the Games Industry Isn't Easy · · Score: 1

I am a developer at a bank. I have my masters degree. Earlier this year, a co-worker from another part of the bank took me aside to ask what it would take to become a game programmer. This was ~20 year old kid, that never went to college, and now sits around processing loans at a bank. He's tinkered a bit with Excel macros, but isn't even a wiz at that. Yet, he's job shadowing my position and asking all these questions about becoming a game programmer. I had to break it to him that, although the game programming profession is something every programmer dreams of at one point in time, the odds of landing in that career aren't plausible. We live out in hick town Wisconsin too, so I told him that you'd need to move half way across the country even if you were lucky enough to find a job.

  6. Pay vs Adverts? Easy Choice on Universal to Offer Music for Free · · Score: 1

Mr Kent, the former head of the Universal McCann advertising agency, added that his research suggested that in return for free music, young people would be willing to endure adverts - as long as the brands and products were relevant to them.

I am one of the young people he speaks of, because I would more than willingly parse thru adverts in order to get free music, as opposed to having to pay for it.

I would like that hotspot capability more than at home.

The music industry needs to accept that there is always going to be a certain amount of piracy, and then just get on with the business of selling digital.

  15. The Verdict on Core 2 Duo Notebooks Reviewed · · Score: 4, Informative

Instead of reading the entire article, here's the summary ...

    Verdict

Both of these are impressive machines for anyone who wants to get hold of the power of Merom straight away. The lower clocked AJP does seem slightly lack-lustre compared to the top end Rock, especially as the 1,920 x 1,200 screen wasn't the best we've seen. If battery life is the primary concern you might do better with a Core Duo, due to its lower TDP, unless you can wait for ultra-low voltage Core 2 Duo laptops to appear.

If you can spend the money the T7600 based Rock is outrageously fast for a notebook and it's well specced too. However, we think the mid-rage 2GHz, T7200 will end up being the Merom CPU of choice.

That's where you free up the money to house more nut jobs. Make it uninviting, instead of making it the motel 6 for the inner city jobless.

Imagine getting into a bar fight and by way of a freak accident, you kill a man with a single punch. Do you think that you deserve to get locked up for life? What about for a consentual sex act and your partner changes their mind about it after the fact and presses charges?

What if, what if, what if. Don't put yourself in those positions and you wouldn't have to worry about it. People need to learn to accept the consequences of their actions, and if they're worried about the consequences, stay out of the situations.

Of course, if you go with the vendor in the link, it's an insanely expensive solution, but if you think about it, you can buy those sleeves for cheap, and build your own hooks. And per another posters comment, I think it's a good idea to build it with access to both ends of the hook, therefore you can do a FIFO policy ... slip the cd's on one side, pull them off the other. We're talking about backups here, not a library. Odds are you are only going to need the oldest or most recent, not the one in the middle. And you'd always be disposing the oldest, so you have easy access too. Just my thoughts though, I could be wrong like usual :-)
