I don't think Microsoft wanted to be backward compatible, people - users wanted backwards compatibility.
It was same thing with processor architectures amd (x64) vs intel (IA-64). Intel's IA-64 (Iteron) is FAR superior architecture (256 GPR, register rename, register splitting, multiplexed operations, etc...) with no 8, 16 and 32-bit register functions for backwards compatibility. (Usage of emulator or additional 32bit core can be used to overcome this)
While x64 was just extension over IA-32 and current processors (Intel or amd x64) still have 8 and 16bit support functions (add ax, bx).
It happened because of you - users, who wanted to run your current (old) applications on new platform. Everyone loses, because we're using inferior architecture that supports 30year old applications. (yes, x64 is backwards compatible with 8088 processor which is asinine)
Actually quite the contrary, you only have problems because you are used to do stuff in unix.
Windows command line and GUI have something linux doesn't have. CONSISTENCY.
And there will be no shortage of uranium... the supply needs to last only for 30 to 40 years. Fusion power plants are expected to replace current fission nuclear plants in that time and they require no uranium to run (well, maybe for starting them up) and they run on clean fuel - hydrogen (afaik it also requires lithium catalyst), and 'waste' product is helium.
The headline should read: Half a Million 'Database Servers' Have no Firewall.
Lets be honest here, only small percentage of those computers are actually servers, and of those that are - many have port 1433 port open for something other than database.
You install microsoft visual studio express, get SQL express to go along with it and because you don't have that stupid MS firewall enabled you automatically fall into beforementioned group. Newsflash, not every computer on internet is a server. And not every installation of SQL database has any data in it to live up to it's name.
This is essentially the same technology as in usb memory sticks. Currently, 8GB chips inside one of those cost around $60 and samsung could easily put 8 of those inside 2.5" drive + multipipeline controller for increased performance.
we are then talking about $600 end-user price for 64GB drive... with currently available technology.
The greatest trick devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he doesn't exist.
With microsoft and windows you actually get more than you wanted. You get silly pop-ups, blue screens of death... mostly stuff you don't need or want. But it's there, you know it's there.
Google has even greater power. They have a power to hide stuff from you and manipulate your mind. You can search for something, but the stuff you are searching falls down to the bottom of the list... the worst of all is that most of the time you wouldn't even know they are hiding something from you.
Damn you guys in denmark have it hard:> In slovenia (limited locations currently) you can get 50/50Mbit optics (FTTH) for 50eur/month. Similar VDSL speeds (almost full coverage) availbale for 70eur/month.
Heh, still better than windows host... (using vmware)
ubuntu as client is unbelievably slow in rendering graphics (tried simple 2d games), X was crashing all the time for no reason, got loads of sigfaults... and can't even play a simple movie clip on it.
On the other hand, windows xp client can render 2d games reasonably well and can even render some 3D content, can play all media types without a problem. And 100% stability.
How come? They are doing nothing and getting profits from that. How can they not survive? They wanted to say: Digital music will bring even more profits.
OOXML was designed by microsoft to be directly compatible with binary document formats. (.doc). This saved microsoft months and months of coding and testing.
In general, OOXML as xml based format is pretty much useless. Many tags are one letter sized and totally unintuitive. Sure, it does it's job well, but you will need a proper editor for that.
No, GIMP is unintuitive to all windows users. (Linux users don't give a damn about application look & feel consistency anyway).
Actually gimp (for windows at least) is not even the best free image editor... because Paint.NET blows it away in every aspect.
It's because in the 1950's people with attention problems were just stupid. Similarly, retards became mentally challenged and cripples became paraplegic or physically challenged
As a developer i'm productive at work for 2-4 hours per day. That's less than 50%. You cannot expect from developer to code non-stop for 8 hours and be proficient at it. It simply doesn't work that way... and any employer expecting this is an idiot.
It basically means, they promise to not do traffic shaping of any kind on user's data. Which is BAD. Such networks would be DDOS attack prone and pretty much unstable.
You guys need warnings on everything. Do you know a knife will kill you if you thrust it in your chest? They should put a warning on knives too!
I think they should actually remove all safety warnings from all items. Will make a little more room for Darwin to kick-in.
Wearing glasses is the cause, not the effect...
You see... nerdy young boys with glasses didn't get socially accepted, so they started using computers. That's why many computer geeks wear glasses.
Really not that surprising, since every other device runs on embedded linux. Everything from handheld GPS devices, electronic locks, routers, switches to satellite receivers/decoders runs on embedded linux now.
It's cheapest embedded platform.

Here..
Note the date... article is from 2003, and technology hasn't advanced at all since then. (Or prove me wrong, provide links)

Going by your logic: JPEG, GIF and PNG also have no business in html...

Don't you think there's something wrong with the band or their music if no one else supports them? Or maybe, there's something wrong with your taste:>
"and the power consumption is a low 45 W"
Current laptop 17" LCDs have power consumption around 15W or so.
